  • The simulation analyses of a dish solar power system with stirling engine in this study are applied to system performance prediction if four different test sites; Seoul, Pusan and Cheju in Korea, and Naha in Japan. The effects of difference of concentrator type such as monolithic and stretched-membrane construction on system efficiency are also evaluated. The total amount of generated power for a year depends on the site. However the total maximum system efficiency in every site is approximately 16% and there isnt striking difference. It is also found that the maximum collector efficiency of stretched-membrane concentrator is about 3∼15% lower than that of the monolithic type.

Spectral resolution evaluation by MCNP simulation for airborne alpha detection system with a collimator

  • In this study, an airborne alpha detection system, which consists of a passivated implanted planar silicon (PIPS) detector and an air filter, was developed. A collimator applied to the alpha detection system showed an enhancement in resolution and a degradation in detection efficiency. The resolution and detection efficiency were compared and analyzed to evaluate the performance of the collimator. Thus, the resolution was found to be more important than the efficiency as a determining factor of the detection system performance, from the viewpoint of radionuclide identification. The performance was evaluated on three properties of the collimator: hole shape, hole length, and the ratio between the hole and frame pitches. From the hole shape performance evaluation, a hexagonal collimator showed the highest resolution. Further, the collimator with a hole pitch of 14 mm was found to have the highest resolution while that with a frame pitch of 4-6 mm (i.e., 1.2-1.4 times longer than the hole pitch) showed the highest resolution.

  • The paper discusses new approach for machining operation simulation using enhanced Z map algorithm. To extract the required geometric information from NC code, suggested algorithm uses supersampling method to enhance the efficiency of a simulation process. By executing redundant Boolean operations in a grid cell and averaging down calculated data, presented algorithm can accurately represent material removal volume though tool swept volume is negligibly small. Supersampling method is the most common form of antialiasing and usually used with polygon mesh rendering in computer graphics. The key advantage of enhanced Z map model is that the data structure is same with conventional Z map model, though it can acquire higher accuracy and reliability with same or lower computation time. By simulating machining operation efficiently, this system can be used to improve the reliability and efficiency of NC machining process as well as the quality of the final product.

  • The objectives of this work are to present the dynamic simulation strategy based on cluster-modular approach and to develop a prototype simulator. In addition, methods for the improvement of computational efficiency and applicability are studied. A process can be decomposed into several clusters which consist of strongly coupled units depending upon the process dynamics or topology. The combined approach of simultaneous and sequential simulation based on the cluster structure is implemented within the developed dynamic process simulator, MOSA(Multi Objective Simulation Architecture). Dynamic simulation for a utility plant is presented as a case study in order to prove the efficiency and flexibility of MOSA.

Photovoltaic Generation System Simulation using Real Field Weather Conditions

  • Actual system apparatuses are necessary in order to verify the efficiency and stability of photovoltaic(PV) generation systems considering the size of solar panel, the sort of converter type, and the load conditions and so on. Moreover, it is hardly possible to compare a certain MPPT control scheme with others under the exactly same weather and load conditions as well. For the purpose of solving above mentioned difficulties in a laboratory basis, a transient simulation of PV generation system using real field weather conditions is indispensable. A straightforward simulation scheme with cost effective hardware structures under real weather conditions is proposed in this paper using EMTDC type of transient analysis simulators. Firstly, a solar cell has been modeled with VI characteristic equations, and then the real field data of weather conditions are interfaced to the EMTDC through Fortran program interface method. As a result, the stability and the efficiency analysis of PV generation systems according to various hardware structures and MPPT controls are easily possible under the exactly same weather conditions.

  • Recent advances in wireless sensor networks have led to many routing protocols designed for energy-efficiency in wireless sensor networks. Despite that many routing protocols have been proposed in wireless sensor networks, a single routing protocol cannot be energy-efficient if the environment of the sensor network varies. This paper presents a fuzzy logic based Adaptive Routing (FAR) algorithm that provides energy-efficiency by dynamically changing protocols installed at the sensor nodes. The algorithm changes protocols based on the output of the fuzzy logic which is the fitness level of the protocols for the environment. A simulation is performed to show the usefulness of the proposed algorithm.

  • The explosive Increase of wireless networks and the advancement of mobile devices lead to the expansion of mobile environment. In accordance with the development of mobile environment, the need to use mobile database is increased sharply, and also it accompanies the related problems. The current mobile database system is based on the centralized method from which a synchronized server manages multiple mobile database management system to synchronize. From this mobile system architecture, several kinds of problems can be detected such as the management of synchronization issues between mobile databases and the transaction management issues. Furthermore, the current mobile database management system does not consider any solution on the fault tolerance. To solve those problems, this paper proposes the mobile agent-based mobile database management system. The proposed system provide high confidence and efficiency by enhancing the network efficiency and fault tolerance through the mobile grouping.

  • In this paper load redistribution algorithm to allow fault-tolerance by redistributing the workload of n failure nodes to the remaining good nodes in distributed systems are investigated. To evaluate the efficiency of the algorithms a simulation model of algorithms is developed using SLAM II simulation language. The job arrival rate service rate failure and repair rate of nodes and communication delay time due to load migraion are used as parameters. The result of the simulation shows that the job arrival rate failure and repair rate of nodes do not affected on the relative efficiency of algorithms. If the communication delay time is greater than average job processing time algorithm B is better. Otherwise algorithm C is superior to the others.

  • To upgrade railway traffic density without any change of signal block length between stations on existing railway lines, a new signalling system of train control "the pattern control technique" is suggested. It needs very little change to computerize the cab signal using transponders. A computer simulation system is developed to experiment the new control method. The new signalling system shows much increase of the railway traffic efficiency. The train head-way time by the fixed signalling system and the new pattern control system is analyzed. The pattern control technique shows 35% increasement of trair operation under same condition of railway and trains.nd trains.

  • This paper proposes a simulation method of train control system to increase railroad transportation capacity in the Seoul Subway. Comparing with the conventional fixed block system, a new train operation method of "moving block system" shows a more capability of same railroad. A graphic simulation program is developed for application of moving block system to Seoul subway train control system. The result of the simulation program shows a shorten headway i.e. a more dense operation of trains and a higher efficiency of railroad with the suggested moving block system.
