  • In recent years, Transport Demand Management has been conducted for the efficient management of transport. In ITS applications in particular, the prerequisite is accurate and reliable positioning. However, the major problems are satellite signal outage, and multipath. This paper proposes that outage and multipath measurement can be detected and estimated using elevation angle and signal to noise ratio data association relation in stand-alone GPS. In order to verify the performance of the proposed method, it is then evaluated by the car test. the evaluation test environment has low accuracy and unreliable positioning because of signal outage or multipath such as steep hill and high buildings. In the evaluation test result, 918times abnormal signal occurred and it was confirmed that the proposed method showed more improved 9.48m(RMS) horizontal positioning error than without proposed method.

  • This paper relates with the robustness performance improvement of QE-MMA (Quantized Error-MMA) adaptive equalization algorithm based on the dithering in order to reduce the intersymbol interference by nonlinear distortion occurs at channel. The QE-MMA was appeared for the easiness of H/W implementation in place of multiplication to shifting in the tap coefficient updates applying the power-of-two operation to the magnitude of error signal in currently SE-MMA, it's performance were degraded by this. For improving it's performance, the proposed DQE-MMA adds the dither signal which has constant statistical characteristics in the prestage of power-of-two operation. It was confirmed by simulation that the DQE-MMA gives better robustness performance than current QE-MMA in the same channel and signal to noise ratio.

  • When the number of users is finite, the performance improvement of the orthogonal random beamforming (ORBF) scheme is limited in high signal-to-noise ratio regions. In this paper, to improve the performance of the ORBF scheme, the user set and transmit power allocation are jointly determined to maximize sum rate under the total transmit power constraint. First, the transmit power allocation problem is expressed as a function of a given user set. Based on this expression, the optimal user set with the maximum sum rate is determined. The suboptimal procedure is also presented to reduce the computational complexity, which separates the user set selection procedure and transmit power allocation procedure.

  • The EMG amplitude estimator, which has been investigated as an indicator of muscle force, is of high relevance not only in biomechanical studies but also more and more in clinical applications. This paper presents a new approach to estimate surface EMG amplitude by using the mean spike and mean turn amplitude(MSA and MTA) variables. Surface EMG signals, a total of 198 signals, were recorded from biceps brachii muscle over the range of 20-80%MVC isometric contraction and performance of the MSA and MTA variables applied to amplitude estimation of the EMG signals were investigated. To examine the performance, a SNR(signal-to-noise ratio) was computed from each amplitude estimate. The results of the study indicate that MSA and MTA amplitude estimations with first order whitening filter and 300[ms]-350[ms] moving average window length are optimal and show better performance(mean SNR improvement of 6%-15%) than the most frequently used variables(ARV and RMS).

  • In this study, the effect of the steering vector model mismatch due to array uncertainties on the performance of array processing was analyzed through simulation, along with the alleviation of the model mismatch effect depending on array calibration. To increase the reliability of the simulation results, the actual steering vector of the array antenna obtained by electromagnetic simulation was used along with the Jahn's channel model, which is an experimental channel model. Based on the analysis of the power spectrum for each direction, beam pattern, and the signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio of the beamformer output, the performance deterioration of array processing due to array uncertainties was examined, and the performance improvement of array processing through array calibration was also examined.

  • In this paper, a best-basis selection algorithm that improves the performance of the coding gains and the computational complexity is proposed. The proposed algorithm limits the computational complexity according to the resolved threshold value and decomposes the parent subbands by using the top-down tree search and the relative energy between the parent subbands and the child subbands. For the experiments of the proposed algorithm, the bit-rates, the peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR), and the reconstructed images are presented by using the Quad-tree coder. The result of the proposed algorithm is compared to that of DWT algorithm using the Quad-tree coder for a set of standard test images. In addition, the result of the proposed algorithm is compared to that of JPEG-2000 algorithm and that of S+P algorithm.

  • This paper proposes the efficient preprocessing method based on curvelet transform for edge enhancement in image. The propose method is generated the edge map by using the Canny algorithm to wavelet transform, which is the sub-step of the curvelet transform. In order to improve the part of edge feature, the selective sharpening according to the generate edge map is applied. In experimental result, the propose method achieves that the enhancement of edge feature is better than conventional methods. This leads that peak to signal noise ratio, edge intensity are improvement on average about 1.92, 1.12dB respectively.

  • A series of reversible watermarking technologies have been proposed to increase embedding capacity and the quality of the watermarked image simultaneously. The major skills include difference expansion, histogram shifting, and optimizing embedding order. In this paper, an accurate predictor is proposed to enhance the difference expansion. An efficient sorter is also suggested to find a more desirable embedding order. The payload is differently distributed into two sub-images, split like a chessboard pattern, for better watermarked image quality. Simulation results of the accurate prediction and sorter based on the payload balancing method yield generally better performance over previous methods. The gap is wide, in particular, in low payload for natural images. The peak signal-to-noise ratio improvement is around 2 dB in low payload ranges.

  • Antenna selection is a method to enhance the performance of spatial multiplexing multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems, which can achieve the diversity order of the full MIMO systems. Although various selection criteria have been studied in the literature, they should be adjusted to the detection operation implemented at the receiver. In this paper, antenna selection methods that optimize the post-processing signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and eigenvalue are considered for the lattice reduction (LR)-based receiver. To develop a complexity-efficient antenna selection algorithm, the incremental selection strategy is adopted. Moreover, for improvement of performance, an additional iterative selection method is presented in combination with an incremental strategy.

  • In this paper, in order to increase system capacity and reduce the transmitting power of the user's equipment, we propose an efficient power estimation consisting of a modified open-loop power control (OLPC) and closed-loop power control (CLPC) schemes for mobile/satellite communications systems. The OLPC works well if the forward and reverse links are perfectly correlated and the CLPC is sensitive to round-trip delay (RTD). Therefore, it is not effective in mobile/satellite system. In order to solve the above problem, we added monitoring equipment to both the OLPC and CLPC to use information about transmitting power that has not yet been received by the receiver over the satellite/ATC channel. Moreover, we adapted an efficient pilot diversity of both OLPC and CLPC in order to get a better signal to interference plus noise ratio (SIR) estimation of the received signal.
