  • Remote monitoring partial discharge sensor, equipping with hybrid filter combining optical and electrical noise reduction capabilities and with signal integrating function to calculate total arc energy, was investigated. Hybrid filter showed insensitivity to fluorescent and incandescent lamps under simulated distribution panel condition. Signal integrating function showed selective detection capability corresponding to different arc energy levels, while convention arc sensor had difficulty to discriminate arc energy level due to bursty arc waveform and peak level detection characteristics. The sensor showed possibility for application to remote monitoring partial discharge sensor, since it detected arc energy level corresponding to normal open and close discharge in low voltage 100A MCCB at 2m distance.

  • To satisfy the demand for small size, light weight. high density power supply, the switching frequency of DC/DC converters has been increased. The PWM control of the conventional SMPS have a switching frequency that a level of the conducted noise spectra contribute to switching frequency band. So the electronic equipment is not only affected from that but is restricted to internal regulation like CISPR, FCC, and VDE. In this paper, we analyzed Bi-FM. Bi-FM is two fixed switching frequency with a modulation frequency. So emission spectrum of Bi-FM control signal is spreaded and spectral power level is reduced. In this paper, we analyze the spectral analysis of Bi-FM control signal and the spectral comparison between the PWM control and Bi-FM control. And we confirm that reduced the spectrum power level through simulation using Pspice and experiment.

  • This paper presents an SVD(Singular Value Decomposition)-Pseudo Spectrum method for SAR (Synthetic Aperture Radar) imaging. The purpose of this work is to improve resolution and target separability of SAR images. This paper proposes SVD-Pseudo Spectrum method whose advantages are noise robustness, reduction of sidelobes and high resolution of spectral estimation. SVD-Pseudo Spectrum method uses Hankel Matrix of signal components and SVD (Singular Value Decomposition) method. In this paper, it is demonstrated that the SVD-Pseudo Spectrum method shows better performance than the matched filtering method and the conventional super-resolution based multiple signal classification (MUSIC) method in SAR image processing. The targets to be separated are modeled, and this modeled data is used to demonstrate the performance of algorithms.

  • It is essential to know the information about the prior model for wavelet coefficients, the probability distribution of noise, and the variance of wavelet coefficients for noise reduction using Bayesian estimation in wavelet domain. In general denoising methods, the signal variance is estimated from the proper prior model for wavelet coefficients. In this paper, we propose a variable window size decision algorithm to estimate signal variance according to image region. Simulation results shows the proposed method have better PSNRs than those of the state of art denoising methods.

  • In this paper, we reduced the optical noise interference using the ASK modulation with optoelectronic feedback in a wireless optical system in which a lighting LED is used as a light source. The carrier frequency of 70 kHz was generated internally by the oscillation in the optoelectronic feedback circuit, and the output light was ASK modulated at a data rate of 9.6 kbps by opening and shortening the feedback loop with the input signal. In an environment with adjacent noise lights, the ASK modulation with optoelectronic feedback improved the signal to noise ratio by about 25 dB.

  • Al alloys are useful materials having high specific strength and are used in machining of parts having thin-walled structures for weight reduction in aircraft, automobiles, and portable devices. In machining of thin-walled structures, it is difficult to maintain dimensional accuracy because machining deformation occurs because of cutting forces and heat in the cutting zone. Thus, cutting conditions and methods need to be investigated and cutting signals need to be analyzed to diagnose and minimize machining deformation and thereby enhance machining quality. In this study, an investigation on cutting conditions to minimize machining deformation and an analysis on characteristics of cutting signals when machining deformation occurs are conducted. Cutting signals for the process are acquired by using an accelerometer and acoustic emission (AE) sensor. Signal characteristics according to the cutting conditions and the relation between machining deformation and cutting signals are analyzed.

  • With the trend of factory automation, nowadays, much industrial machinery tends to be put into 24-hours operation a day. However, these trends in industrial equipments also increase the possibility of various mechanical problems and bring about innumerable maintenance cost. There is a strong need of the condition monitoring and diagnosis for industrial equipment, especially rotating machinery, since they are connected not only to the reduction in the maintenance costs but also connected to the enhancement of production efficiency. Generally, to evaluate the operating conditions in the machinery in the industrial field, various physical properties are monitored. Among them, vibration and Noise signals are the mist important indicator and it is effectively used in many diagnosis systems for machinery. Much previous research is based in the FFT (Fast Fourier Transform) method. The spectral analysis is assumed that the signal is stationary. However, almost random signals are non-stationary. The wavelet transform has been recognized an efficient Method. Most interesting sounds have time-varying features. Signal processing techniques for the analysis of transient sound have been not clearly given yet.

  • When GPS (global positioning system) is used as synchronous signal in CDMA digital cellular base station system and high speed digital synchronous communication network, antenna cable length is increased, comparing with other GPS application such as positioning or car navigation. In this paper, it is proposed that a type of new GPS antenna system including RF stage for reduction of cable loss in case of long cable. The antenna system with TMPA(truncated-corners microstrip patch antenna) is designed and fabricated because GPS signal has RHCP (right-hand circular polarization), consequently antenna size can be made small size. LNA (low noise amplifier) is designed by using HEMT(high electron mobility transistor)which has lower noise figurae and better AGC characteristics at low voltage than GaAs FET, and we equiped mixer, in GPS antenna unit, which converts from 1575.42MHz to 75.42MHz. As result of comparing between typical system and proposed system when cable length is 60m, 63dB, 55dB and 25dB gain are obtained for RG-316/U, RG-58C/U and RG-213/U, and better characteristics are achieved than typical system as far as cable length is longer.

  • One of the main techniques for diagnosing heart disease is by examining the electrocardiogram(ECG). Many studies on detecting the QRS complex, P, and T waves have been performed because meaningful information is contained in these parameters. However, the earlier detection techniques can not effectively extract those parameters from the ECG that is severely contaminated by noise source. In this paper, we performed the extracting parameters from and recovering the ECG signal using wavelets transform that has recently been applying to various fields.

  • For quality improvement, Taguchi emphasizes the reduction of variation of the quality characteristic. Taguchi has used the signal to noise ratios for achieving minimum dispersion of the quality characteristic with its location adjusted to some desired target value. At each setting of design factors, the variance of the quality characteristic could be affected by the mean. In most cases, as the mean get larger, the variance tends to increase, The Taguchi's SN ratio corresponds to the case that the variance is proportional to the square of the mean. But the variance can increase faster or slower than the square of the mean. We propose to infer a linking relationship of the variance and mean through simple data analysis technique, and then use a reasonable SN ratio.
