A new demodulation scheeme for differentially encoded GMSK signal is introduced and described. In the proposed differential detection method, the signal is sampled at the center of the time slot, at which the effect of the intersymbol interference is relatively smaller than the edge of the time slot. The proposed differential detector takes this adbantate. The error rate performance of the differential detector has been numerically calculated in the fast fading encountered in the land mobile radio channels. A comparison of performance with the differential detector for MSK signal is given. Finally the possibility of improving performance employing nonredudant error correction is studied.

We propose a simle scheme for detecting tone signals narrowly spaced in the frequency by employing a nonlinear device called Teager's energy tracker. When the input signal is a tone signal, the output of Teager's energy tracker is proportional to the energy and tone frequency of the input signal. When the envelope of the input tone is varying, this tracker can also track the energy of the envelope. By employing Teager's algorithm as a preprocessor, the detector for narrowly spaced tone signals can be implemented without the use of sharp notch filters. As an example, the proposed detector is applied to distinguishing ITU-T V.8 and V.25 tone signals. The detector perfodrmance is analyszed and is verified by computer simulation.
A compact scanning confocal microscope has been constructed using a quad-detector in a CD-player. The variation of error signal on depth which obtained by a quad-detector is used in the scanning confocal microscope. Bipolar error signals, which is sensitive near a focus, give a surface following effect whiout following the surface. In the case of small depth difference, the difference of materials through the reflection signal has been identified. The image which uses reflection signal only, has been obtained with the same setup. And, the results obtained in two different way were compared and analyzed.
This paper proposes an algorithm for signal processing which is used in pulse induction metal mine detectors. The detection power can be obtained from magnetic variation on the search coil. The calibration data should be made when there is no target because the detection power is difference between with and without a target. And it is also updated periodically because of surrounding various noises. Lastly, we keep a watch on the signal slope to identify exact position and signal power of mine detection.
The aim of this study was to develop a signal process circuit for a position sensitive avalanche photodiode detector. The circuit parts consisted of amplification, differential and peak/hold circuit. This research was the baseline to develop highly compact radiation detector. The signal was amplified by an amplification chip and its shape was changed in a differential circuit to minimize the pulse tailing. The peak/hold circuit detect the peak of the signal from the differential circuit and hold the amplitude of the peak for data acquisition. In order to test the intrinsic function of the circuit, the input signal was transmitted from a commercial pulse generator.

This paper proposes an advanced detection technique for cable fault by eliminating the sign of reference signal in STDR(sequence time-domain reflectometry) and SSTDR(spread-spectrum time-domain reflectometry). The proposed fault-detection technique can eliminate the reference signal more effectively than the conventional one since the sign detector can approximately recover the distorted reference signal by cable and connector, and consequently, can detect the reflected signal by fault more effectively than the conventional one. Especially, it is shown that the error rate of proposed technique can be significantly lower than the conventional one in the case of far fault simulation.
Background: To prevent small leakage accidents, a real-time and direct detection system for small leaks with a detection limit below that of existing systems, e.g. $0.5gpm{\cdot}hr^{-1}$, is required. In this study, a small-size beta detector, which can be installed inside the reactor containment (CT) building and detect small leaks directly, was suggested and its feasibility was evaluated using MCNPX simulation. Materials and Methods: A target nuclide was selected through analysis of radiation from radionuclides in the reactor coolant system (RCS) and the spectrum was obtained via a silicon detector simulated in MCNPX. A window was designed to reduce the background signal caused by other nuclides. The sensitivity of the detector was also estimated, and its shielding designed for installation inside the reactor CT. Results and Discussion: The beta and gamma spectrum of the silicon detector showed a negligible gamma signal but it also contained an undesired peak at 0.22 MeV due to other nuclides, not the $^{16}N$ target nuclide. Window to remove the peak was derived as 0.4 mm for beryllium. The sensitivity of silicon beta detector with a beryllium window of 1.7 mm thickness was derived as $5.172{\times}10^{-6}{\mu}Ci{\cdot}cc^{-1}$. In addition, the specification of the shielding was evaluated through simulations, and the results showed that the integrity of the silicon detector can be maintained with lead shielding of 3 cm (<15 kg). This is a very small amount compared to the specifications of the lead shielding (600 kg) required for installation of $^{16}N$ gamma detector in inside reactor CT, it was determined that beta detector would have a distinct advantage in terms of miniaturization. Conclusion: The feasibility of the beta detector was evaluated for installation inside the reactor CT to detect small leaks below $0.5gpm{\cdot}hr^{-1}$. In future, the design will be optimized on specific data.

In this thesis, feedback circuit and FM detector applied to superheterodyne receiver to extract audio signal without random noise Is implemented. The feedback loop circuit converts 45MHz received signal to 4SiKHz If signal containing mess-age without random noise. Also the feedback loop provides the End local frequency, so narrowband BPF which is containing maximum Doppler frequency without message Is needed. Finally, quadrature FM detector extract audio signal by synthesis o350" shifted signal and ampli-tude limited signal. RSSI characteristics is measured and audio characteristics Is compared with existing If module.
The performance of two-channel adaptive noise canceller is ofter degraded by the weights perturbation due to the speech signal. In this paper, an adaptive noise canceller employing a speech detector and two adaptation algorithms which are switched according to the speech detector is proposed. When highly correlated speech signal is detected, the tap weights of the adaptive filter are adapted by the sign algorithm. On the other hand, the weights are adapted by the NLMS algorithm when silence is detected or when the characteristics of the noise propagation channel is changed. The employed speech detector utilizes the power ratio of the input and the output of an adaptive linear prediction-error filter. According to the computer simulation, the proposed method yields better performance than conventional ones.

This paper describes the design principles and methods of electronic processor for thermal imager with the SPRITE detector, operating in the 8-12 micron band. The thermal imager consists of a optical scanner containing the detector and an electrical signal processor. The optical scanner utilizing rotating polygon and oscillating mirror, is 2-dimensional serial/parallel scan type using 5 elements of the detector. And the electronic processor has pre-processing of 5 chnanel's thermal signal from the detector, and performs digital scan conversion to reform the parallel data stream into serial analog data compatible with conventional RS-170 video. Through the designed electronic processor, we have acquired a satisfactory thermal image. And the MRTD (Minimum Resolvable Temperature Difference) is 0.5$^{\circ}$K at 7.5 cycles/mm.
