A Fine Granular Scalable Video Coding Algorithm using Frequency Weighting (주파수 특성을 이용한 미세 계위적 동영상 부호화 방법)

  • In this paper, we propose a Progressive scalable video coding algorithm using frequency weighting in the DCT domain. Since the human visual system (HVS) can be modeled as a nonlinear point transformation, called the modulation transfer function (MTF), we tan use the frequency weighting matrix to enhance the video image quality. We change this frequency weighting matrix into the frequency shift matrix to apply to the bit-plane coding method for the fine granular scalable (FGS) video coding We also define a new error metric JNDE (just noticeable difference) to measure the perceptual image quality in terms of human vision.

  • In this paper, a PLL frequency synthesizer for RSSI applications is designed by phase noise analysis. Required synthesizer performance is achieved by optimizing the noise performance of PLL components and a loop transfer function, since its phase noise, lock time, and spur suppression capability are determined by the performance of loop components and loop filter characteristics. As an application example, a PLL frequency synthesizer for RSSI applications, which operates at the frequency of 2.288GHz, is designed using the phase noise analysis. The validity of the design technique is proved by experiments.

  • Photovoltaic conditioning systems normally use a maximum power point tracking (MPPT) technique to deliver the highest possible power to the load continuously when variations occur in the insolation and temperature. A unique method of tracking the maximum power points (MPPs) and forcing the boost converter system to operate close to these points is presented through deriving small-signal model and transfer function of boost converter considering input capacitor. This paper aims at modeling boost converter including fairly large equivalent series resistance(ESR) of input reservoir capacitor by state-space-averaging method and PWM switch model and compares both methods using Bode plots. In the future, properly designed controller for compensation will be constructed in 3kw real system for maximum photovoltaic power tracking control.

A Filtered-X LMS Algorithm by New Error Path Identification Method for Adaptive Active Noise Control (적응 능동소음제어를 위한 오차경로 인식 방법을 통한 filtered-X LMS 알고리듬)

  • In this paper, a filtered-X LMS algorithm by new error path identification method is proposed for active noise control system. The proposed algorithm identifies accurately the error path transfer function using three microphones and the control of error signal through double loop scheme with on-line. In the computer simulation using the sinusoidal and the practical duct noise, the proposed algorithm reduces noise level about 29.1dB and 10.4dB, respectively. We can observe the improvement of about 0.5dB and 2.5dB in noise level compared with that obtained using the filtered-X LMS algorithm of Eriksson model.

Glial Mechanisms of Neuropathic Pain and Emerging Interventions

  • Neuropathic pain is often refractory to intervention because of the complex etiology and an incomplete understanding of the mechanisms behind this type of pain. Glial cells, specifically microglia and astrocytes, are powerful modulators of pain and new targets of drug development for neuropathic pain. Glial activation could be the driving force behind chronic pain, maintaining the noxious signal transmission even after the original injury has healed. Glia express chemokine, purinergic, toll-like, glutaminergic and other receptors that enable them to respond to neural signals, and they can modulate neuronal synaptic function and neuronal excitability. Nerve injury upregulates multiple receptors in spinal microglia and astrocytes. Microglia influence neuronal communication by producing inflammatory products at the synapse, as do astrocytes because they completely encapsulate synapses and are in close contact with neuronal somas through gap junctions. Glia are the main source of inflammatory mediators in the central nervous system. New therapeutic strategies for neuropathic pain are emerging such as targeting the glial cells, novel pharmacologic approaches and gene therapy. Drugs targeting microglia and astrocytes, cytokine production, and neural structures including dorsal root ganglion are now under study, as is gene therapy. Isoform-specific inhibition will minimize the side effects produced by blocking all glia with a general inhibitor. Enhancing the anti-inflammatory cytokines could prove more beneficial than administering proinflammatory cytokine antagonists that block glial activation systemically. Research on therapeutic gene transfer to the central nervous system is underway, although obstacles prevent immediate clinical application.

  • This study presents the active noise control of duct noise. The duct was excited by a steady-state harmonic and white noise force and the control was performed by one control speaker attached to surface of the duct. An adaptive controller based on filtered x LMS(FXLMS) algorithm was used and controller was defined by minimizing the square of the response of the error microphone. The assemble controller, which is called a hybrid ANC(active noise control) system, was combined with feedforward and feedback controller. The feedforward ANC attenuates primary noise that is correlated with the reference signal, while the feedback ANC cancels the narrowband components of the primary noise that are not observed by the reference sensor. Furthermore, in many ANC applications, the periodic components of noise are the most intense and the feedback ANC system has the effect of reducing the spectral peaks of the primary noise, thus easing the burden of the feedforward ANC filter.

Optimal Motion Control of 3-axis SCARA Robot Using a Finite Jerk and Gain Tuning Based on $LabVIEW^{(R)}$ ($LabVIEW^{(R)}$ 기반 3축 스카라 로봇의 유한 저크 및 게인 동조를 이용한 최적 모션 제어)

  • This paper presents the optimal motion control for 3-axis SCARA robot by using $LabVIEW^{(R)}$. Specifically, for optimal motion control of 3-axis SCARA robot, we study velocity profile based on finite jerk(the first derivative of acceleration) and optimal gain tunig based on frequency response method by using $LabVIEW^{(R)}$. The velocity optimization with finite jerk aims at generating the smooth velocity profile of robot. Velocity profile based on finite jerk is acquired and applied to 3-axis SCARA robot by using $LabVIEW^{(R)}$. DSA(Dynamic Signal Analyzer) for frequency response method is programed by using $LabVIEW^{(R)}$. We obtain the bode plot of transfer function about 3-axis SCARA robot by using DSA, and perform the gain tuning considering dynamic characteristic based on the bode plot. These experiments have shown that the proposed motion control can reduce vibration displacement and response error rate each 33.7% and 51.7% of 3-axis SCARA robot.

The Improvement of Performance and Structure of the MIMO-UWB System Based on Indoor Channel Modeling (실내 채널 모델링에 기반한 MIMO-UWB 시스템의 구조 및 성능 개선)

  • In this paper, we suggest the novel MIMO-UWB transceiver structure which can easily be adapted for various MIMO schemes and presents MIMO channel model for obtaining correlation characteristics among channels to analyze the performance. From the indoor channel modeling, we obtain the interferences among antennas due to the MIMO channel formation through numerical simulation and analyze the performance of MIMO-UWB system under frequency selective fading. Especially, to reduce the excessive computational complexity due to the inverse matrix computation of channel transfer function, we take the scheme combining the transmitting signals estimated from each receiving antenna after recovering each transmitting antenna signal from a receiving antenna.

  • The avionic battery discharge regulator (BDR) plays an important role in a power-conditioning unit. With its merits of high efficiency, stable transfer function, and continuous input and output currents, the non-isolated Weinberg converter (NIWC) is suitable for avionic BDR. An improved peak current control strategy is proposed to achieve high current-sharing accuracy. Current and voltage regulators are designed based on a small signal model of a three-module NIWC system. The system with the designed regulators operates stably under any condition and achieves excellent transient response and current-sharing accuracy.

A Novel Method to Suppress Mid-Frequency Vibrations with a High Speed-Loop Gain for PMSM Control

  • PI controllers are one of the most widely used controllers in industrial control systems due to their simple algorithms and stability. The parameters Kp and Ki determine the performance of the system response. The response is expected to improve by increasing the gain of the PI controller. However, too large a gain will accelerate the speed response and cause vibrations, which is not what is expected. This paper proposes a way to suppress vibrations by detecting the vibration frequency and extracting the vibration signal as a compensation to the speed feedback. Additionally, in order to improve its disturbance rejection ability, a low-order disturbance observer is proposed. This paper also explains the operation principle of the proposed method by analyzing the transfer function and it describes the design of the controller parameters in detail. Simulation and experimental results are provided to verify the merits of the proposed method. These results also show the good performance of the proposed method. It has a rapid response and suppresses vibrations.
