Numerical solution of the full Navier-Stokes equation as well as the energy equation has been obtained for the unsteady natural convection in a rectangular enclosure. One side wall was maintained at very high temperature simulating fires. Especially the effect of surface radiation was taken into account. While the enclosed air was assumed to be transparent, the internal walls directly interacted one another through the surface radiation. Due to a significant temperature difference in the flow field, the equation of state was used instead of the Boussinesq approximation. It was found that the rapid heating of the adiabatic ceiling and floor by the incoming radiation from the hot wall made the evolution at thermo-fluid field highly unstable in the initial period. Therefore, the secondary cells brought about at the floor region greatly affected the heat transfer mechanism inside the enclosure. The heat transfer rate was augmented by the radiation, resulting in requiring less time for the flow to reach the steady state. At the steady state neglecting radiation two internal hydraulic jumps were clearly observed in upper/left as well as in lower/right comer. However, the hydraulic jump in the lower/right comer could not be observed for the case including radiation due to its high momentum flow over the bottom wall. Radiation resulted in a faster establishment of the steady state phenomena.
Comprehensive numerical computations are made of side-heated squire cavity which is exposed to zero mean g-jitter. Numerical solutions are acquires to the governing two-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations for a Boussinesq fluid. When the system is exposed to pure sinusoidal g-jitter inclined to the vertical axis, in spite of zero mean gravity there exist non zero net flow fields [8]. The resonance phenomenon are observed in moderate Rayleigh number. And, by comprehensive numerical work, unlike[5], it is found that they are related with the overshoot phenomenon of the sudden gravity up problem.
The circuit board of an electronic equipment were simulated with a vertical channel which had thermal blocks protruded from one of the channel walls. A rought front plate was made of a circuit board attached with short wires to simulate the back side of a printed circuit board. Natural convection experiments were carried out to study the effects of channel space and rough front plate and to find the suitable characteristic value after the fourth row. The effect of a rough front plate was negligble. There were negligible effects of the channel space on the first and second heaters. Heat transfer coefficients after the third row decreased as the channel space decreased. Heat transfer coefficients were almost constant for larger than 20 mm channel space. A characteristic length was suggested to non-dimensionalize Nu and Ra numbers in a vertical channel with protruded heaters. A correlation was obtained using the new characteristic lengths.
Comprehensive numerical computations are made of side-heated squire cavity which is exposed to time dependent external mechanical forcing. Numerical solutions are acquires to the governing two-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations for a Boussinesq fluid. Time dependent heat transfer characteristics of interior fluid are analyzed to illustrate resonance phenomenon. When system is exposed to pure sinusoidal mechanical forcing, the numerical results disclose that the basic mechanism of resonance of mechanical forcing is same as that of thermal forcing of Ref. [3, 9]. In comparatively small amplitude of mechanical forcing, thermal characteristics of the system are similar to basic system(${\varepsilon}=0$).
The turbulent buoyancy-driven flow in 2-dimensional enclosed cavities heated from the vertical side is numerically calculated for both cases of a Rayleigh number of 5*10$^{10}$ for air and 2.5*10$^{10}$ for water. Three different turbulence models are considered : standard k-.epsilon. model of Ozoe and low-Reynolds-number model of Lam and Bremhorst, and another low-Reynolds-number model of Davidson. The results indicate that the use of low-Reynolds number models is recommended for the indoor airflow computation, and the results from Davidson model are reasonably close to the reported experimental data. A sensitivity study shows that the amounts of wall-heat transfer and the velocity profiles with the Lam and Bremhorst model largely depend on the choice of the wall function for .epsilon..

In this study, laminar natural circulation and heat transfer in a tall rectangular enclosure with disconnected vertical partitions inside were investigated. Analytical expressions were developed to predict the circulation flow rate and the average Nusselt number in a partially partitioned enclosure with isothermal side walls at different temperatures and insulated top and bottom walls. The proposed formulas are then validated against numerical results for modified Rayleigh numbers of up to $10^6$. The impacts of the governing parameters are also examined along with a discussion of the heat transfer regimes.
The influence on natural convection was studied by solving the partial differential equations within a rectangular enclosure which have a cooling strip at the right side wall of the space, a isothermally heated bottom plate and adiabatic two other walls. Computation was carried out for the range of Grashof number from $5*10^3$ to $2.5*10^5$ with Plandtl number of 0.73. The results have been obtained in cases of four aspect ratios and various strip sizes. Temperature and Stream function distributions have been plotted using explicit finite difference method in two dimensional, laminar flow, and also mean Nusselt number and Local Nusselt number have been obtained.
This study was conducted on cooling systems in which, for the first time at home and abroad, cold water panels are embedded in the walls of small buildings for radiant cooling by heat absorption with cold water. In summer, cold water is circulated through cold water (chiller) circulation tubes embedded in three walls (two side walls and one rear wall) of a building to implement radiant cooling by the coldness of the water. From the results of this study, the experimental and theoretical natural convection heat transfer coefficients were relatively well-matched over the entire experimental range, thereby verifying the reliability of the experimental results. The surface temperature reduction rate of the walls in which cold water panels are embedded was large whereas that of the walls where no cold water panels are embedded was very small.
In these days, demand of a LCD monitor is remarkably increasing with development of the LCD technology. However, there are thermal problems for improvement of efficiency for the LCD monitor. Thus, this research analyzed thermal problems such as convection and conduction heat transfer characteristics in the LCD monitor using an infrared (IR) camera. Also, the results of the outer side of the front LCD panel using the IR camera have been compared with the results of the inner side of the front panel using T-type thermocouples. The equations have been derived for the temperature distribution of the inner side of the front LCD panel by a multiple regression method including variables for ambient temperature, humidity and temperature differences between the front and back panels of the LCD monitor.
This study deals with the Benard Flow of Magnetic Fluids in a rectangular cavity which the ratio between height and width is 1 : 4 and the base side or left side is a heating face while other sides are to be cooling faces. When Magnetic field was equally impressed, considering the internal rotation of the elementary ferromagnetic particle, we found the following result from the numerical analysis of the GSMAC algorithm applied to the equation of the magnetic fluid. Benard flow is controlled by intensity and direction of magnetic fields, and critical point appears when especially magnetic field with a heating base and side area near H=-7000 and H=-10000 is applied.
