Hydrothermal synthesis, structure and sorption performance to cesium and strontium ions of nanostructured magnetic zeolite composites

  • The problem of water contamination by long-living cesium and strontium radionuclides is an urgent environmental issue. The development of facile and efficient technologies based on nanostructured adsorbents is a perspective for selective radionuclides removal. In this regard, current work aimed to obtain the nanostructured magnetic zeolite composites with high adsorption performance to cesium and strontium ions. The optimal conditions of hydrothermal synthesis were established based on XRD, SEM-EDX, N2 adsorption-desorption, VSM, and batch adsorption experiment data. The role of chemical composition, textural characteristics, and surface morphology was demonstrated. The monolayer ionexchange mechanism was proposed based on adsorption isotherm modeling. The highest Langmuir adsorption capacity of 229.6 and 105.1 mg/g towards cesium and strontium ions was reached for composite obtained at 90 ℃ hydrothermal treatment. It was shown that magnetic characteristics of zeolite composites allowing to separate spent adsorbents by a magnet from aqueous solutions.

2011년 기리시마 화산 분화에 따른 화산재 이동 및 침적에 관한 수치모의실험 (Numerical Simulation of Volcanic Ash Dispersion and Deposition during 2011 Eruption of Mt. Kirishima)

  • 화산재의 확산 특성을 분석하고, 침적량의 예측 가능성을 평가하기 위하여, 2011년 1월26일 분화가 시작된 일본 기리시마 화산을 대상으로 WRF와 확산모형 FLEXPART를 이용한 수치모의실험을 실시하였다. 지상 1 km 이하 대기경계층내의 화산재 확산 특성은 26일 방출된 입자의 경우 주풍을 따라 집중되는 경향을 보이지만, 27일 방출된 화산재는 큐슈남부에 발달한 고기압의 영향으로 기리시마 만까지 확산된다. 겨울철의 강한 시베리아 기단이 발달한 26일의 경우, 기리시마 화산 풍하측에 위치한 미야기 현 중앙 산악 후면의 좁은 영역에서 집중적으로 침적이 이루어진다. 또한 분화 지역 주변의 국지적인 고기압의 발달은 화산재의 수평 확산을 증대시키는 역할을 한다. 침적량의 분포는 정량적인 측면에서 실제 화산 분출에 따른 영향과 매우 유사한 경향성을 보이고, 제시한 수치모의실험은 화산재의 이동 및 침적량 예측 및 산정에 적절하다고 판단된다.

한반도 혹한 발생시 종관장 특성과 대규모 기후 변동성 간의 연관성 (Synoptic Characteristics of Cold Days over South Korea and Their Relationship with Large-Scale Climate Variability)

  • This study explores the synoptic characteristics of cold days over South Korea and their relationship with large-scale climate variability. The cold day, which is different from cold surge, is defined when daily-mean surface air temperature, averaged over 11 KMA stations, is colder than 1-percentile temperature in each year by considering its long-term trend over 1960~2012. Such event is detected by quantile regression and the related synoptic patterns are identified in reanalysis data. Composite geopotential height anomalies at 500 hPa show that cold days are often preceded by positive anomalies in high latitudes and negative anomalies in midlatitudes on the west of Korea. While the formers are quasi-stationary and quasi-barotropic, and often qualified as blocking highs, the latters are associated with transient cyclones. At cold days, the north-south dipole in geopotential height anomalies becomes west-east dipole in the lower troposphere as high-latitude anticyclone expands equatorward to the Northern China and mid-latitude cyclone moves eastward and rapidly develops over the East Sea. The resulting northerlies cause cold days in Korea. By performing composite analyses of large-scale climate indices, it is further found that the occurrence of these cold days are preferable when the Arctic Oscillation is in its negative phase and/or East Asian monsoon circulation and Siberian high are anomalously strong.

Hydrocarbon Plasma of a Low-Pressure Arc Discharge for Deposition of Highly-Adhesive Hydrogenated DLC Films

  • Plasma generator based on non-self-sustained low-pressure arc discharge has been examined as a tool for deposition of highly-adhesive hydrogenated amorphous diamond-like carbon(DLC) films. Since the discharge is stable in wide range of gas pressures and currents, this plasma source makes possible to realize both plasma-immersion ion implantation(PIII) and plasma-immersion ion deposition(PIID) in a unified vacuum cycle. The plasma parameters were measured as functions of discharge current. Discharge and substrate bias voltage parameters have been determined for the PIII and PIID modes. For PIID it has been demonstrated that hard and well-adherent DLC coating are produced at 200-500 eV energies per deposited carbon atom. The growth rates of DLC films in this case are about 200-300 nm/h. It was also shown that short(∼60$\mu\textrm{s}$) high-voltage(> 1kV) substrate bias pulses are the most favorable for achieving high hardness and good adhesion of DLC, as well as for reducing of residual intrinsic stress are.

AMSR-E 위성 데이터를 이용한 북극해빙분포의 계절 변동 및 연 변동 조사: 2002년 7월 ~ 2009년 5월 (Seasonal and Inter-annual Variations of Sea Ice Distribution in the Arctic Using AMSR-E Data: July 2002 to May 2009)

  • 북극의 환경은 해빙의 변동에 민감하게 반응하며, 해빙(sea-ice)의 증감은 지구 온난화의 지표이기도 하다. 따라서, 지구의 기후변동의 과정을 이해하고 예측하기 위해서는, 북극 해빙의 변동에 대한 지속적인 모니터링이 이루어져야 한다. 이를 위한 방법으로, 1970년대부터 인공위성의 원격탐사방법인 수동마이크로파 센서를 사용해 왔으며, 해빙의 면적과 유형을 판단하는데 효과적이다. 본 논문에서는, 북극 해빙분포의 계절 및 연 변동의 특성을 이해하기 위하여, 북위 60이상의 영역에 대한 2002년 7월부터 2009년 5월까지의 수동마이크로파 센서 AMSR-E 12.5km 해빙농도(SIC)데이터(기존 수동마이크로파 센서보다 5배의 해상도)를 사용하였다. 여름 최저 해빙역 시점의 데이터에 의하면, 북극 해빙면적은 점차 줄어드는 추세를 나타내고 있으며, 그 감소율은 연간 3.1%로 이것은 약 0.2백만$km^2$의 해빙이 줄어들고 있다는 것을 의미한다. 또한 이 경향은 여름철 해수면수온과 기온의 증가와 관련 있는 다년빙(Multi-Hear ice)의 감소와 함께 진행되고 있다는 것이다. 1년빙(First-year ice)의 면적은 최저의 해빙면적을 기록하였던 2007까지 감소하나, 갑작스런 다년빙(Multi-year ice)의 감소는 2008-2009년 기간의 1년빙의 증가로 이어졌다. 계절에 따른 연 변동에 있어서는, 1월-3월기간에 걸처 바렌츠해(Barents Sea)와 래브라도해(Labrador Sea)에서 공간변동이 크고, 8월-10월 기간에는 동시베리아해(East Siberian Sea)에서 북극점에 이르는 범위에서 큰 것으로 나타났다. 7년 동안 녹지 않은 다년빙의 공간분포도에 의하면, 다년빙이 러시아해역의 동시베리아해, 랍데브해(Laptev Sea)와 카라해(Kara Sea)에서 급격하게 감소하고 있어서 가까운 장래에 북동항로(Northeast Passage)의 이용가능성이 커지고 있다.

한반도 지형이 대상수렴운의 생성에 미치는 영향에 관한 WRF 민감도 실험 (WRF Sensitivity Experiments on the Formation of the Convergent Cloud Band in Relation to the Orographic Effect of the Korean Peninsula)

  • This study was conducted to perform various sensitivity experiments using WRF (Weather Research and Forecasting) model in order to determine the effects of terrains of the Korean Peninsula and the land-sea thermal contrast on the formation and development of the convergent cloud band for the cases of 1 February 2012. The sensitivity experiments consist of the following five ones: CNTL experiment (control experiment), and TMBT experiment, BDMT experiment and ALL experiment that set the terrain altitude of Taeback Mountains and Northern mountain complex as zero, respectively, and the altitude of the above-mentioned two mountains as zero, and LANDSEA experiment that set to change the Korean Peninsula into sea in order to find out the land-sea thermal contrast effect. These experiment results showed that a cold air current stemming from the Siberian high pressure met the group of northern mountains with high topography altitude and was separated into two air currents. These two separated air currents met each other again on the Middle and Northern East Sea, downstream of the group of northern mountains and converged finally, creating the convergent cloud band. And these experiments suggested that the convergent cloud band located on the Middle and Northern East Sea, and the cloud band lying on the southern East sea to the coastal waters of the Japanese Island facing the East Sea, were generated and developed by different dynamical mechanisms. Also it was found that the topography of Taeback Mountains created a warm air advection region due to temperature rise by adiabatic compression near the coastal waters of Yeongdong Region, downstream of the mountains. In conclusion, these experiment results clearly showed that the most essential factor having an effect on the generation and development of the convergent cloud band was the topography effect of the northern mountain complex, and that the land-sea thermal contrast effect was insignificant.

아무르 주의 사료작물 재배에 대한 일고 - FTA 체결에 대한 대비책의 일환 - (A Study on the Cultivation of Forage Crops in Amur Oblast - An Alternative Measure of Preparations for Conclusion of the FTA -)

  • The conclusion of free Trade Agreement between South Korea and USA can become a serious threat to the Korean agriculture. On the strategic scheme the foodstuffs is the basis for protection of the state sovereignty. The Amur oblast of Russian Federation is region, which can supply South Korea cheap and good qualitative feeds. It means South Korea should create agricultural cooperation with the Amur oblast of Russian Federation with the purpose to begin organic agriculture in this area and it will help South Korea to counteract a quantitative attack on Korea from the side of american agricultural production. In the Amur oblast there are following fodder crops; Alfalfa, Smooth brome grass (gromus adonis L.), Siberian couch grass, Sudan pass, Colza rape (Brassica napus) and Amaranth (Avfranthus). In the same area also exist oatmeal, wheat, corn and barley, which is possible to use for feeds. All these above written cultures are cultivated organically, therefore it is possible to use them as organic forages in South Korea. It is very important to know system of crop rotation in the Amur oblast. There is a scheme of crop rotation, which is connected with increase and preservation of fertility of soil, maintenance of growth of productivity of agricultural cultures and reception of high-quality production. It is necessary to begin organic agriculture in a southern part of Amur oblast, where, in 2001 year, 97% of all sowing areas was concentrated. The acidity degree of soil in this part is not high ($ph5.1{\sim}5.5$), therefore does not require liming.

Water Use Efficiency in Five Different Species of One-year-old Seedlings Grown in a Field Nursery in Mongolia

  • This study was conducted to examine the water use efficiency (WUE) in five species of one-year-old seedlings grown in a field nursery in Mongolia. Larix sibirica and Pinus sylvestris are the most dominant coniferous species while Ulmus pumila is an important deciduous species known well-adapted in harsh conditions such as in semi-arid forests and Gobi desert regions. Caragana arborescens (Siberian pea shrub) and Hippophae rhamnoides are N-fixing shrubs in Mongolia. Thirty one-year-old seedlings were sampled from each of the five species (a total of 150 samples) and measured for net photosynthetic rate (Pn) and transpiration rate (E). The Pn and E were used to calculate and compare the WUE of each species. Pn differed significantly among the five species (p < 0.05). However, there was no significant difference in Pn between L. sibirica and H. rhamnoides (p > 0.05). C. arborescens showed the highest Pn whereas U. pumila did the poorest. E differed significantly among the five species (p < 0.05). L. sibirica and U. pumila showed considerably lower E than other species. Thus, WUE values of coniferous species such as L. sibirica and P. sylvestris were significantly greater than deciduous or shrub species such as U. pumila, C. arborescens and H. rhamnoides (p < 0.01). It may result that conifers showed relatively high water use efficiency than deciduous or shrub trees due to their lower transpiration rates, which resulted in morphological and physiological characteristics of their leaves. This may indicate that L. sibirica and P. sylvestris can be widely used for rehabilitation works in Mongolia attributed to their dominant distributions but also their high drought-resistance properties.

기압배치형별 중부지방의 1월 최저기온 분포에 관한 연구: 철원의 최저기온을 중심으로 (A Study on the Distributions of Minimum Temperature during January in the Central Region of South Korea: focused on Minimum Temperature at Cheorwon)

  • 본 연구에서는 중부지방의 1월 최저기온 분포 특성을 파악하고 철원의 극한 최저기온의 원인을 규명하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 중부지방 25개 관측소의 1991~2010년 1월 기온 분포 특성과 철원 기온과 춘천, 홍천, 봉화, 대관령, 원주, 제천 등 중부내륙 지역의 기온 차이를 기압배치형에 따라 분석하였다. 일평균기온과 평균 일최저기온은 철원과 해발고도가 높은 지역에서 낮게 나타나지만, $-15^{\circ}C$ 이하 일수와 같은 극한기온의 출현빈도는 철원에서 두드러졌다. 시베리아 고기압이 확장하거나 우리나라 북쪽에 이동성 고기압이 위치할 때 철원 기온이 비교지점에 비해 상대적으로 더 낮다. 이동성 고기압의 영향을 받을 때는 철원과 비교지점 간 기온 차이가 적거나, 봉화, 제천과 같은 분지의 기온이 더 낮다.

영동지역 대설 사례의 대기 하층 안정도 분석 (An Analysis of Low-level Stability in the Heavy Snowfall Event Observed in the Yeongdong Region)

  • Extreme heavy snowfall episodes have been investigated in case of accumulated snowfall amount larger than 50 cm during the past ten years, in order to understand the association of low-level stability with heavy snowfall in the Yeongdong region. In general, the selected 4 events have similar synoptic setting such as the Siberian High extended to East Sea along with the Low passing by the southern Korean Peninsula, eventually inducing easterly in the Yeongdong region. Specifically moist-adiabatically neutral layer has been observed during the heavy snowfall period, which was easily identified using vertical profiles of equivalent potential temperature observed at Sokcho, whereas convective unstable layer has been formed over the East sea due to relatively warm sea surface temperature (SST) about $8{\sim}10^{\circ}C$ and lower temperature around 1~2 km above the surface, obtained from RDAPS. Difference of equivalent potential temperature between 850 hPa and surface as well as difference between air and sea temperatures altogether gradually increased before the snowfall period. Instability-induced moisture supply to the atmosphere from the East sea, being cooled and saturated by the upper cold surge, would make low-level ice cloud, and eventually move inland by the easterly flow. Heavy snowfall will be enhanced in association with low-level convergence by surface friction and upslope wind against Taebaek mountains. This study emphasizes the importance of low level stability in the Yeongdong region using the radiosonde sounding and RDAPS data, which should quantitatively be examined through numerical model as well as heat and moisture supply from the ocean.
