  • In this paper, we design and implement middleware service modules of MiTS system architecture which is proposed for integrated shipboard information management. The MiTS system is divided to three layers that are gateway, middleware server and application. The gateway collects and parses information and data, the middleware server integrates the data and stores to a database, and the application displays visual data to users. The service modules provide MiTS middleware services to gateways and applications. We implement the service modules based on international standard IEC61162-4 series and test those.

  • It is one of the most important factors Seafarers Ducation Quality Assurance and Management in Higher Maritime Educational Institution. The educational process and result of Higher Maritime Educational Institution should be evaluated according to the 1995 Amendments to the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers(STCW), 1978. Actually above-mentioned evaluation is deemed to make foundation in order to enhance the efficiency of shipboard education by surveying the satisfaction of shipboard training for nautical part cadets by the group. In this paper, we carried out the questionnaire survey to study satisfactory value and the reason of dissatisfaction of 113 cadets being trained on board the Training Ship in Maritime College of Korea Maritime University(K. M. U.). The results were calculated by frequency and percentage ; the significance of difference among Department groups like Maritime Transportation Science, Maritime Police and Ship Operating Systems Engineering was analysed by $X^2$ inspection. The major results of above analysis were as follows : First training chance for dadets was very little for being overflowed on board the training ship of the K. M. U. Second, special type of Training Ship HANBADA and HANNARA made the adaptability to merchant vessel's handling restricted. Third, cadets could not manage ratings directly, therefore the education in regard to seafaring management was limited to the theoretical instruction which leads to the low level of satisfaction. And lastly, low value of satisfaction for Drydocking Education in Shipyard was caused by cadet's leaving the Training Ship on account of the safety problems including ship and cadets.

  • The use of spreadsheet packages for solving noise control problems has been cited by several authors, eg Saha[1] and Thornton[2]. The effectiveness of using spreadsheet packages compared with the traditional computer programs written in high level languages was demonstrated when applied to relatively simple problems, such as the selection of hearing protectors or the prediction of noise equation which includes logarithmic additions at most represents the physics of the problem. The simplicity of the governing equation together with the requirement to handle a vast amount of data are considered to be the major reasons for noise control engineers to use spreadsheet packages. Although shipboard noise prediction seems to be very complicated, the calculation procedure itself is, in essence, identical especially true for prediction methods based on empirical formulae[3,4], ie the procedure that consists of the three basic elements, ie source, path and receiver. This paper discusses the application of spreadsheet package LOTUS 1-2-3 to shipboard noise prediction problems. A utility program of the package is written using macro functions and is shown to be especially useful for noise control engineers who are unfamiliar with spreadsheet packages. In addition, a new type of empirical formula, to estimate structureborne noise transmission loss, is proposed.

  • A simulation technique, which simulate dynamic motion and communication environments of ship in the lab, is needed in order to reduce the testing cost when we evaluate the transfer alignment performance of shipboard INS. Hardware-In-the-Loop Simulation(HILS) can be used as an effective test method for those system because it can provide flexible and realistic simulation environments, various test scenario, and repeated test environment in the lab without additional cost and person. This paper presents the methods for implementing the real time HILS environment for testing transfer alignment performance of shipboard INS. It includes real time executive for controlling realtime simulation and calculating the ship motion, communication method for interfacing between the systems, and coordinate transformation method for converting real ship coordinate attitude data to lab coordinate attitude data.

  • Mounts for shipboard equipment in naval ships play an important role for vibration and shock suppression. New large-capacity resilient mounts, SDR-D30 and SDR-D45, have been developed. This paper involves performance tests for the mount which have maximum load of 30 kN and 45 kN, respectively. The performance tests have been carried out for several mounts based on military standards, such as MIL-M-19863D(SH), MIL-M-21693C(SH), MIL-M-17508F(SH), and MIL-S-901D(NAVY). The test items consist of deflection at upper rate load test, dynamic stiffness, uniformity, static load-deflection(axial, transverse and longitudinal), drift test, fatigue test, and shock test. From these performance tests, it is confirmed that the two mounts have good performances based on military standards.
