  • A ship collision analysis by finite element method is performed considering the effects of mass and speed of ship and material and shape of structures to analyze the dynamic characteristics by ship collision. From this analysis, collision load-time history and inelastic deformation of ship and structures are obtained. Dynamic characteristics are different from each other according to interaction. between ship and structures. It seems that there are lots of factor to have effects on the ship-structures interaction. But because little information is available on the behavior of the inelastic deformation of materials and structures during the type of dynamic impacts associated with vessel impact, assumptions based on experience and sound engineering practice should be substituted. Therefore more researches on the interaction between ship and structures are required.

  • A ship collision analysis by finite element method is performed considering the effects of mass and speed of ship and material and shape of structures to analyze the dynamic characteristics by ship collision. From this analysis, collision load-time history and damage of ship and structures are obtained. In this study, results of finite element analysis are compared with previous studies in USA, Japan and some countries of Europe. Dynamic characteristics are different from each other according to interaction between ship and structures. It seems that there are lots of factor to have effects on the ship-structures interaction. Because little information is available on the behavior of the inelastic deformation of materials and structures during the type of dynamic impacts associated with vessel impact, assumptions based on experience and sound engineering practice should be substituted. • In this paper, a thoery for the static analysis of large plastic deformations of 3-dimentional frames, aiming at application to the collapse analysis of ship structures, is presented. In the frame analysis formulation, effects of shear deformations are included. A plastic hinge is inserted into the field of a beam and post-failure deformation of the plastic hinge is characterized by finite rotations and extensions. In order to model deep web frames of ship's structures into a framed structures, collapse of thin-walled plate girders is investigated. The proposed analysis method is applied to several ship structural models in the references.

  • Modern ocean-going vessels are highly dynamically loaded all-welded structures. Traditionally, this fact has been taken into account in the design of ship structures by keeping the overall stress level within permissible limits and by limiting notch effects in the design of local structures. With an improving knowledge of loads and the rapid development of calculation means more detailed calculation-based methods are increasingly introduced. A brief review on fatigue assessment methods used in the design of ship structures has been given during the 1993 IIW International Conference in Glasgow. The rapid development during recent years underlines the importace of the subject and justifies its extended discussion in this paper.

  • In order to design safer and more economical ship structures, theoretical structure analysis of entire vessel is desirable. This paper describes the application of the Direct Stiffness Method to ship structures for calculation of forces and moments which act on each part of ship structures. Before application of this method, ship structures have to be replaced with equivalent space frame. Emphasis is placed on the division of total stiffness matrix of entire vessel. Floating barge, of which principal dimensions are $L{\times}B{\times}D=16M{\times}10M{\times}2M$, is taken as calculation sample. The conclusion of this paper is that, in initial stage of ship structure design, the Direct Stiffness Method by Division can be applied to determine frame-space and scantlings of members.

  • This study investigated the collision of ships withfloating pier structures. The nature of the collision phenomenon is complex, and the understanding of it has developed through the modelling of offshore structures. ABAQUS software was used to investigate the collision phenomenon. The interaction between the ship and structural system was modelled, and the stress distribution both at thetime of collision and afterwardswasobserved and modelled. The strain energy absorption by different structural partswas calculated and comparisonswere made.

  • Ship structures is thin-walled structures and she has lots of curved platings. In these days, lots different kinds of closed-formulas are development for ultimate strength of flat plate but for curved panels, there are not enough study or papers for this field. In this study, the ultimate strength characteristics for ship curved plates are studied. The ship plating is generally subjected to combined in-plane and lateral pressure loads. In-plane loads included biaxial compression/tension and edge shear. This is first report about the developing of ultimate compressive strength for ship curved plating. A closed-form formula for predicting the ultimate compressive strength of curved plates are empirically derived by curve fitting based on the computed results. The results and insights developed in the present study will be useful for damage tolerant design of curved plated structures.

  • In this study the writer would like to study the art of navigation in the Era of Silla. For the purpose of this study, the writer studied ship's log book of Ennin's Diary, the ancient ship's structures of Korean, Chinese, Japanese, winds and ocean currents around Korean Peninsular which effect the navigation of sailing ship, and ancient reference books and materials. The result of this study. in the ship's structure in the Era of Silla. bottom structure is considered flat and V-Shaped type, and sailing ship had anchor, sail, considerable deckhouse, transverse bulkhead. And the ship's main materials of sailing ship was wood. partially used irons in the panting structures. In the art of navigation, navigators used winds, ocean current, anchor, sail, depth and color of sea water, lights, ballast. Especially navigators used astrologers and geomancers for astronomical observation, weather forecast, natural phenomena.
