Optimal Berth and Crane Scheduling Using Constraint Satisfaction Search and Heuristic Repair (제약만족 탐색과 휴리스틱 교정기법을 이용한 최적 선석 및 크레인 일정계획)

  • The berth and crane scheduling problem in a container terminal encompasses the whole process of assigning berth to each ship, determining the duration of berthing, assigning container cranes to each ship, and determining the specific start and end time of each crane service, for all the ships scheduled to be arriving at the terminal during a certain scheduling horizon. This problem is basically a constraint satisfaction problem in which cranes and berths should be assigned in such a way that all the spatial and temporal constraints are satisfied without any interference. However, it is also an optimization problem because the requested arrival and departure time should be met for as many of the scheduled ships as possible, while the operation cost of the terminal should be minimized. In this paper, we present an effective and efficient approach to solving this type of problem, which combines constrain satisfaction search and heuristic repair. We first employ a constraint satisfaction search to find a feasib1e solution. Then, the feasible solution is modified to a more optimal one by iteratively applying our heuristic repair operations within the framework of constraint satisfaction search. Experimental results with a real data from Pusan East Container Terminal showed that our approach can derive a schedule of satisfactory quality in a very short time.

A Study of Contents Arrangement in Conning Display (선박항법기기 화면의 배치에 관한 연구)

  • The conning display which is located in the ship bridge shows the various important information such as ship position, ship speed, track data, rate of turn, thruster rpm so on, and is one of the IBSs(Integrated Bridge Systems). In this study, the survey was conducted for ten officers to find the importance and using frequency of the information which were displayed in the conning display. The results showed that the information of drift speed, ship speed, wind direction and wind force, rate of turn, sea water depth, ship position, heading, thrust rpm, alarm, rudder command and angle got high scores and it meant that these information were very important and high frequency of use during the navigation. The optimized contents arrangement in conning display was suggested based on importance and using frequency of information. The experiment using eye-tracking system was conducted to compare the performance time and error rate of nine different scenarios for suggested arrangement display and three other existing displays. The results showed that the suggested arrangement was the best in performance time and error rate. The scenario concerning the direction and speed of wind showed faster performance time and lower error rate than other scenarios. The movement of subject's eye tended to search from the center and to avoid the comer, called 'the comer effect.' It is expected that the results of this study could help for the bridge staff to grasp the sailing information easily and to cope with the given situations promptly.

Ship Detection Using Background Estimation of Video and AIS Informations (영상의 배경추정기법과 AIS정보를 이용한 선박검출)

  • To support anti-collision between ship to ship and sea-search and sea-rescue work, ship automatic identification system(AIS) that can both send and receive messages between ship and VTS Traffic control have been adopted. And port control system can control traffic vessel service which is co-operated with AIS. For more efficient traffic vessel service, ship recognition and display system is required to cooperated with AIS. In this paper, we propose ship detection system which is co-operated with AIS by using background estimation based on image processing for on the sea or harbor image extracted from camera. We experiment with on the sea or harbor image extracted from real-time input image from camera. By computer simulation and real world test, the proposed system show more effective to ship monitoring.

Identification of Unknown Remanent Magnetization in the Ferromagnetic Ship Hull Utilizing Material Sensitivity Information Combined with Magnetization Modeling

  • This paper presents a magnetization modeling method combined with material sensitivity information to identify the unknown magnetization distribution of a hull and improve the accuracy of the predicted fields. First, based on the magnetization modeling, the hull surface was divided into three-dimensional sheet elements, where the individual remanent magnetization was assumed to be constant. For a fast search of the optimum magnetization distribution on the hull, a material sensitivity formula containing the first-order gradient information of an objective function was combined with the magnetization modeling method. The feature of the proposed method is that it can provide a stable and accurate field solution, even in the vicinity of the hull. Finally, the validity of the method was tested using a scale model ship.

An Economic Ship Routing System by Optimizing Outputs of Engine-Power based on an Evolutionary Strategy (전화전략기반 엔진출력 최적화를 통한 선박경제운항시스템)

  • An economic ship routing means to sail a ship with a goal of minimizing the fuel consumption by utilizing weather forecast information, and many such systems have been recently developed. Most of them assume that sailing is carried out with a constraint like a fixed output of engine-power or a fixed sailing speed. However, if the output of engine-power is controlled, it is possible to reduce the fuel consumption by sailing a ship under a relatively good weather condition. In this paper, we propose a novel economic ship routing system which can search optimal outputs of the engine-power for each part of a path by employing an evolutionary strategy. In addition, we develope an $A^*$ algorithm to find the shortest path and a method to enhance the degree of curve representation. These make the proposed system applicable to an arbitrary pair of departure and destination points. We compared our proposed system with another existing system not controlling output of the engine-power over 36 scenarios in total, and observed that the former reduced the estimated fuel consumption than the latter by 1.3% on average and the maximum 5.6% with little difference of estimated time of arrival.

  • The model for ship maneuvering simulation is to enhance the competence of officer's ship maneuvering skills such as navigation equipment operation, collision avoidances, countermeasure an emergency situation so on. Despite using such ship maneuvering model, critical maritime accidents are occurred periodically in the world. To find adequate simulation model to evaluate competence abilities of deck officer who have maneuvering skills with some competence levels, we search the standard ship maneuvering method representing on the part 3 Person Overboard(POB) to onboard emergences of IAMSAR manual. Moreover we monitor the officer's human factors appearing during education and training and consider the use of human factors as fundamental data.

An efficient metaheuristic for multi-level reliability optimization problem in electronic systems of the ship

  • The redundancy allocation problem has usually considered only the component redundancy at the lowest-level for the enhancement of system reliability. A system can be functionally decomposed into system, module, and component levels. Modular redundancy can be more effective than component redundancy at the lowest-level because in modular systems, duplicating a module composed of several components can be easier, and requires less time and skill. We consider a multi-level redundancy allocation problem in which all cases of redundancy for system, module, and component levels are considered. A tabu search of memory-based mechanisms that balances intensification with diversification via the short-term and long-term memory is proposed for its solution. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first attempt to use a tabu search for this problem. Our tabu search algorithm is compared with the previous genetic algorithm for the problem on the new composed test problems as well as the benchmark problems from the literature. Computational results show that the proposed method outstandingly outperforms the genetic algorithm for almost all test problems.

In this paper. I present an effective approach to solving this problem, which combines both constraint satisfaction search and iterative improvement search. I test this method on a real world container terminal problem and the results show that the method can produce better results than any other existing method.
