In high-speed multimedia satellite communication systems, it is essential to provide high-quality, economical services by using efficient transmission schemes which can overcome channel impairments appearing in the satellite link. This paper introduces techniques to compensate for rain attenuation and the Doppler shift in the satellite communication link. An adaptive transmission technique with a control algorithm to adaptively allocate transmission schemes is used as a countermeasure to rain attenuation. We introduce a new rain attenuation modeling technique for estimating system performance and propose a novel Doppler shift compensation algorithm with reduced hardware complexity. Extensive simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can provide greatly enhanced performance compared to conventional algorithms. Simulation software and hardware which incorporate the proposed techniques are also demonstrated.
The mean shift algorithm has achieved considerable success in object tracking due to its simplicity and robustness. It finds local maxima of a similarity measure between the color histograms of the target and candidate image. However, the mean shift tracking algorithm using only color histograms has a serious defect. It doesn't use the spatial information of the target. Thus, it is difficult to model the target more exactly. And it is likely to lose the target during the occlusions of other objects which have similar color distributions. To deal with these difficulties we use both color information and spatial information of the target. Our proposed algorithm is robust to occlusions and scale changes in front of dynamic, unstructured background. In addition, our proposed method is computationally efficient. Therefore, it can be executed in real-time.
This paper presents a method of calculating a selective number of eigenvalues in power systems, which are rightmost, or are largest modulus. The modified Arnoldi method in conjunction with implicit shift OR-algorithm is used to calculate the rightmost eigenvalues. Algorithm requires neither a prior knowledge of the specified shifts nor the calculation of inverse matrix. The key advantage of the algorithm is its ability to converge to the wanted eigenvalues at once. The method is compared with the modified Arnoldi method combined with S-matrix transformation, where the eigenvalues having the largest modulus are to be determined. The two methods are applied to the reduced Kansai system. Convergence characteristics and performances are compared. Results show that both methods are robust and has good convergence properties. However, the implicit shift OR method is seen to be faster than the S-matrix method under the same condition.

Recently, most vehicles has the Automatic transmission system as their transmission system. The automatic transmission system operates with fixed shift patterns. In the opposite of manual operation, it is easy and convenient for driving. Though these merit, the system can not evaluate the driver's intension because of usage of fixed shift pattern, To consider driver's intension, we must consider both the driving intensity of driver and the status of vehicle. In this paper, we developed flexible automatic transmission system by using the proposed moduled neural networks which can learn the status of the vehicle and driver's intensity As a result, we compare the transmission system using fixed shift pattern and the proposed transmission system and show the good performance in the change of shift position.

Described in this paper is an optimal driving control algorithm which focused on the improvement of fuel economy and the minimization of pollutant emissions in the parallel type hybrid drivertrain system for transit bus. For the energy balance among components such as engine, induction machine and buttery, the algorithm for power split ration determine is proposed. When it is implemented in the hybrid electric control unit(HECU) , using the sub-optimal method and the approximate technique , it is possible to save the memory , to shorten the calculation time, and to achieve the efficient driving actually. A Shift strategy for automated manual transmission is the other side of the driving control algorithm. It enables to select the optimal gear by using several shift maps which were predefined from the proposed method in this paper, As a results of driving simulation, it is proved that these algorithms make the hybrid drivetrain system to reduce fuel consumption and emissions considerably and to have the ability to the efficient use of battery.
This paper proposes an algorithm for the differential protection of an Indirect Symmetrical Phase Shift Transformer (ISPST) by considering the different behaviors of the compensated differential current under internal fault and magnetizing inrush conditions. In this algorithm, a criterion function is defined which is based on the difference of amplitude of the wavelet transformation over a specific frequency band. The function has been used for the discrimination between three phase magnetizing inrush and internal fault condition and requires less than a quarter cycle after disturbance. This method is independent of any coefficient or threshold values of wavelet transformation. The merit of this algorithm is demonstrated by the simulation of different faults in series and excitation unit and magnetizing inrush with varying switching conditions on ISPST using PSCAD/EMTDC. Due to unavailability of in-field large interconnected transformers for such a large number of destructive tests, the results are further verified by Real Time Digital Simulator (RSCAD/RTDS). The proposed algorithm has been compared with the conventional harmonic restraint based method that justifies the application of wavelet transform for differential protection of ISPST. The proposed algorithm has also been verified for different rating of ISPSTs and satisfactory results were obtained.
Electro-hydraulic shift control of a vehicle automatic transmission has been predominantly carried out via an open-loop control based on numerous time-consuming calibrations. Despite remarkable success in practice, the variations of system characteristics inevitably deteriorate the performance of the tuned open-loop controller. As a result, the controller parameters need to be continuously updated in order to maintain satisfactory shift quality. This paper presents a self-learning algorithm for automatic transmission shift control in a construction vehicle during inertia phase. First, an observer reconstructs the turbine acceleration signal (impossible to measure in a construction vehicle) from the readily accessible turbine speed measurement. Then, a control algorithm based on a quadratic function of the turbine acceleration is shown to guarantee the asymptotic convergence (within a specified target bound) of the error between the actual and the desired turbine accelerations. A Lyapunov argument plays a crucial role in deriving adaptive laws for control parameters. The simulation and hardware-in-the-loop simulation (HILS) studies show that the proposed algorithm actually delivers the promise of satisfactory performance despite the system characteristics variations and uncertainties.

In this paper, we propose the joint carrier and symbol timing recovery algorithm using repetitive preamble and differential detection for burst modem. The proposed algorithm can estimate the frequency offset and the symbol timing error regardless of the amount of frequency offset, with a high accuracy, even using very short preamble and at low SNR values. The algorithms for continuous phase frequency shift keying (CPFSK) and phase shift keying (PSK) types are developed. Through computer simulations, we compare the proposed algorithm with the existing algorithms on the estimation accuracy in terms of the preamble length, and analyze those bit error rate(BER) performance.
Multipath makes clear message transfer difficult in the underwater communication. To solve this problem, we propose a new method producing proper MFSP (Modulation Frequency Shift Period) which could be obtained by calculating time delay caused by different path from a transmitter to a receiver. At the transmitter end, messages were divided according to the size of the MFSP and transmitted accordingly alternating Frequency. At the receiver end, the received messages were demodulated in order to recover the original message by the adaptive BISMO algorithm which is constructed at the algorithm design stage. Adaptive MFSP and estimated BER (Bit Error Rate) were calculated through simulation test.
