The construction method using PC(Precast Concrete) has been widely used because the method can shorten the construction period and improve construction quality. In this paper, through the analysis of present design process for PC railway platform, design parameters on the geometry and properties were extracted and 3D information models for PC railway platform were constructed by the parametric modeling technique. Furthermore, the interface module was developed to link 3D models to the structural analysis/design sheet and database program using VBA(Visual Basic Application). This information model could be used in various areas including structural analysis and design, 2D drawing, quantity estimation and 4D simulation including clash detection.
The wrinkling behavior of a thin sheet with perfect geometry is a kind of compressive instability. The compressive instability is influenced by many factors such as stress state mechanical properties of the sheet material geometry of the body contact conditions and plastic anisotropy. The analysis of compressive instability in plastically deforming body is difficult considering all the factors because the effects of the factors are very complex and the instability behavior may show wide variation for small deviation of the factors. In this study the bifurcation theory is introduced for the finite element analysis of puckering initiation and growth of a thin sheet with perfect geometry. All the above mentioned analysis and the post-bifurcation behavior is analyzed by introducing the branching scheme proposed by Riks. The finite element formulation is based on the incremental deformation theory and elastic-plastic material modeling. in order to investigate the effect of plastic anisotropy on the compressive instability a square plate that is subjected to compression in one direction and tension in the other direction is analyzed by the above-mentionedfinite element analysis. The critical stress ratios above which the buckling does not take place are found for various plastic anisotropic modeling method and discussed. Finally the effect of plastic anisotropy on the puckering behavior in the spherical cup deep drawing process is investigated.
In this study, the mechanical joining process for double sheet metals was investigated by using physical modeling method. Process parameters of mechanical joining such as friction coefficient, drawing depth, pouch radius, die radius and material thickness are preliminarily analyzed by finite element method. Referring to the finite element analysis results mechanical joining system is designed on the basis of physical similarities. From the physical modeling test, the effect of process parameters on the deformation for the mechanical joining are experimentally investigated and optimized joining shape that can provide strong joining strength is obtained.
This paper introduces non-manifold offsetting operations, which add or remove a uniform thickness from a given non-manifold model. Since these operations can be applied to not only solids but also wireframe or sheet objects, they are potentially useful for pipeline modeling, sheet metal and plastic part modeling, tolerance analysis, clearance checking, constant-radius rounding and filleting of solids, converting of abstracted models to solids, HC too1 path generation and so on. This paper describes mathematical properties and algorithms for non-manifold offsetting. In this algorithm, a sufficient set of tentative faces are generated first by offsetting all or a subset of the vertices, edges and faces of the non-manifold model. And then they are merged into a model using the Boolean operations. Finally topological entities which are within offset distance are removed. The partially modified offsetting algorithms for wireframes or sheets are also discussed in order to provide more practical offset models.

Simplified model of slide-fed curtain coating flow has been developed and tested in this study. It rests on the sheet profile equations for curtain thickness in curtain flow and its trajectory derived by the integral momentum balance approach of Higgins and Scriven (1979) and Kistler (1983). It also draws on the film profile equation of film thickness variation in flow down a slide. The equations have been solved in finite difference approximation by Newton iteration with continuation. The results show that how inertia (Reynolds number), surface tension (capillary number), inclination angle of the slide, and air pressure difference across the curtain affect sheet trajectory and thickness profile. It has been revealed that approximate models can be useful to easily analyze coating flow dynamics without complex computations, giving qualitative agreement with full theory and with experiment.
In this study, response surface method (RSM) was used in modeling and multi-objective optimization of the parameters of AA5052-H32 in incremental sheet forming (ISF). The goals of optimization were the maximum forming angle, minimum thickness reduction, and minimum surface roughness, with varying values in response to changes in production process parameters, such as tool diameter, tool spindle speed, step depth, and tool feed rate. A Box-Behnken experimental design (BBD) was used to develop an RSM model for modeling the variations in the forming angle, thickness reduction, and surface roughness in response to variations in process parameters. Subsequently, the RSM model was used as the fitness function for multi-objective optimization of the ISF process based on experimental design. The results showed that RSM can be effectively used to control the forming angle, thickness reduction, and surface roughness.
In order to reduce the trial-and-errors in design and production of injection molded plastic parts, there has been much research effort not only on CAE systems which simulate the injection molding process, but also on CAD systems which support initial design and re-design of plastic parts and their molds. The CAD systems and CAE systems have been developed independently with being built on different basis. That is, CAD systems manipulate the part shapes and the design features in a complete solid model, while CAE systems work on shell meshes generated on the abstract sheet model or medial surface of the part. Therefore, it is required to support the two types of geometric models and feature information in one environment to integrate CAD and CAE systems for accelerating the design speed. A feature-based non-manifold geometric modeling system has been developed to provide an integrated environment for design and analysis of injection molding products. In this system, the geometric models for CAD and CAE systems are represented by a non-manifold boundary representation and they are merged into a single geometric model. The suitable form of geometric model for any application can be extracted from this model. In addition, the feature deletion and interaction problem of the feature-based design system has been solved clearly by introducing the non-manifold Boolean operation based on 'merge and selection' algorithm. The sheet modeling capabilities were also developed for easy modeling of thin plastic parts.
The exact estimation of the ductile crack growth in a thin sheet would be needed in part of the commercial transport aircraft industry fields. A 2-dimensional elastic plastic finite element analysis was carried out to simulate a stable crack extension in a thin sheet 2024 aluminium alloy. Two kinds of crack modeling were used to evaluate curves of the stable crack extension. And then CTOA(crack tip opening angle) and CTED(crack tip energy density) were calculated in order to determine whether they can be used as useful crack extension criterions in a thin sheet. Results indicate that stable crack extension behaviors were simulated well and CTED is more admirable even though CTOA also is reasonable as a criterion for a stable crack extension in a thin 2024 aluminium alloy sheet.
In this study, response surface method (RSM), back propagation neural network (BPNN), and genetic algorithm (GA) were used for modeling and multi-objective optimization of the parameters of AA5052-H32 in incremental sheet forming (ISF). The goal of optimization is to determine the maximum forming angle and minimum surface roughness, while varying the production process parameters, such as tool diameter, tool spindle speed, step depth, and tool feed rate. A Box-Behnken experimental design (BBD) was used to develop an RSM model and BPNN model to model the variations in the forming angle and surface roughness based on variations in process parameters. Subsequently, the RSM model was used as the fitness function for multi-objective optimization of the ISF process the GA. The results showed that RSM and BPNN can be effectively used to control the forming angle and surface roughness. The optimized Pareto front produced by the GA can be utilized as a rational design guide for practical applications of AA5052 in the ISF process
Generally, the forming process of sheet metal is very complex and difficult process because of many variables such as tool geometry, material properties and lubrication. In this view point, the numerical analysis of sheet metal forming process is very difficult. High speed computer is used to model complex sheet metal forming process on a reasonable time scale. The design and development of sheet metal parts in the automotive industry and the need for improved sheet forming process and reduced part development cost have led to the use of computer simulation in tool/die design of sheet metal pressing. HMC(Hyundai Mator Company) has invested to develop programs for analysis of sheet metal forming process with connection of Universities. As a result, several programs were developed. Recently, the commercial software, PAM-STAMP of ESI was installed and is being tried to application of it to the real automotive panels. This article reviews the ongoing activities on development and application of analytical modeling of sheet metal forming at HMC.
