A Perspective on Teaching Mathematics in the School Classroom

  • WHAT we teach, and HOW students experience it, are the primary factors that shape students' understanding and beliefs of what mathematics is all about. Further, students pick up their sense of mathematics from their experience with it. We have seen the results of the approach to "break the subject into pieces and make students master it bit by bit. As an alternative, we strive to create a teaching environment in which students are DOING mathematics and thereby engender selected aspects of "mathematical culture" in the classroom. The vehicle for doing this is the so-called Japanese Open-ended approach to teaching mathematics. We will discuss three aspects of the open-ended approach - process open, end product open, formulating problems open - and the associated approach to assessing learning.

초등학교 과학과 교수·학습 과정에 따른 발문 유형 분석 (Analysis of Questioning used in Elementary Science Classes based on Teaching and Learning Processes)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the pattern and characteristics of elementary school teaching and learning processes in science based classes. The study participants' class was recorded in video and instructional conversation transcription. The pattern of the observed class was analyzed using the classification frame suggested by Mogan &Saxton(2006). In result, the questioning for elicit information was most frequent and questioning for shape understanding and the questioning for press for reflection in its priority. In result, the presence of elicited questioning for the attainment of knowledge and understanding is more prominent in science-based classrooms. It was revealed that the participating teachers used the questioning sentence pattern more frequently and the self-sustained inquiry that accelerates creative thinking of the student was lacking. It was discovered that teaching elicited questioning, which accelerates creative thinking, as well as fact confirmation pattern is a necessary element of training for teachers.

공정능력지수와 비공정능력지수의 차이분석 (Analysis of Difference Between the Process Capability Indices and the Process Incapability Indices.)

  • For assessing the capability of a process, the quantification of process location and variation is central to understanding the quality of units produced from the manufacturing process. Conventional process capability indices is insufficient to drive out the information for process condition, furthermore it is very difficult to evaluate the process capability accurately when the target value is not consistent with the center of specification, and/or the shape of distribution is changed, but the process incapability indices is enable to provide more detailed information to evaluate the process capability by dividing information about the process mean and variance. In this paper, we have a brief review and comparison about these indices, provide an understanding of the relationships between the process capability indices and the incapability indices. And we explore the strengths and weakness of these indices as they apply to normally distributed process, and to examine the effect that non-normality has on these indices.

다중 균열을 갖는 신장 보의 균열 에너지와 지배방정식 (Crack Energy and Governing Equation of an Extensible Beam with Multiple Cracks)

  • This paper aims to advance our understanding of extensible beams with multiple cracks by presenting a crack energy and motion equation, and mathematically justifying the energy functions of axial and bending deformations caused by cracks. Utilizing an extended form of Hamilton's principle, we derive a normalized governing equation for the motion of the extensible beam, taking into account crack energy. To achieve a closed-form solution of the beam equation, we employ a simple approach that incorporates the crack's patching condition into the eigenvalue problem associated with the linear part of the governing equation. This methodology not only yields a valuable eigenmode function but also significantly enhances our understanding of the dynamics of cracked extensible beams. Furthermore, we derive a governing equation that is an ordinary differential equation concerning time, based on orthogonal eigenmodes. This research lays the foundation for further studies, including experimental validations, applications, and the study of damage estimation and detection in the presence of cracks.

대학생들과 과학교사들의 염색체 행동의 이해에 관한 연구 (A Study on the College Science Students' and Science Teachers' Understaning of Chromosome Behavior)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate college science students' and science teachers' understanding of chromosomal behavior in the context of cell division. The research problems were as follows: 1. What is the level of college science students' understandings of chromosomal behaviors? 2. What is the level of science teachers' understandings of chromosomal behaviors? 3. What is the level of understanding by grade and major area? The sample consisted of 28 sophomore, 17 junior and 23 senior biology students; and 23 middle school science teachers and 14 high school biology teachers. The instrument of the study was a short answer required paper and pencil test. The results of the study were as follows: 1) About 15 percent of the sample could not count the number of chromosome in a cell in appropriate. 2) Seventy percent of the students, and 80 percent of the teachers identified homologous chromosomes as ones with the similar shape and size, and 30 percent of the whole sample could not pair two homologous chromosomes. 3) About 70 percent of the students and 30 percent of the teachers could not mark corresponding allele on chromosome. 4) Biology major students showed higher understanding of overall chromosomal behaviors than non Biology students. Based upon the results, some implications were made. The major one was a development of a teaching model in which students can improve the ability to connect chromosome theory to mendelian genetics.

  • 문화를 경제의 수단으로 여겨서는 안 된다. 특히, 문화적 정체성을 제품의 형태에 담는 일은 가능하지도 않겠지만 또 그것으로 국제 경쟁력이 제고될 수도 없다. 그것은 정체성이 언어와 같아서 축적된 경험을 공유하고 있는 집단 내에서만 읽혀지는 상징의 체계를 따르기 때문이다. 반면에, 기술 또는 기술이 공여하는 사용가치는 문화적 색깔을 띠지 않기에 국제양식의 조형언어로써 보편적으로 수용될 수 있다. 따라서 디자인의 경쟁력은 기술과의 관련에서만 획득될 수 있는 특성이라 하겠다. 예컨대, 우리의 휴대전화기가 세계적으로 인정받을 수 있는 까닭은 그 형태가 한국적이기 때문이 아니라 경쟁력 있는 기술력을 갖추고 있기 때문인 것과 같다. 디자인에 대한 일반의 인식은 사용가치를 배제한 '시각'적 조형성에 국한되어 있어 형태와 기능의 유기적 연관성이 상실됨에 따른 사회윤리적 역기능의 원인이 되고 있다. 단순히 조형적 특성만으로 국제 경쟁력을 높이려 한다던가 제품을 예술적 조형실험의 대상으로 여기는 등의 일탈이 허용될 여지를 제공하고 있다는 것이다. 그리고 탈기능적인 과도한 형태가 블랙박스 제품류의 확산에 힘입어 디자인 행위 본연의 결과로서 소비 대중에 각인됨으로써 디자인에 대한 인식적 왜곡의 정도를 더하고 있다. 디자인 영역을 새롭게 획정하는 것은 이러한 인식적 혼란에서 비롯된 제반 오해를 불식하고 인간과 사회에 대한 디자인의 이념적 역할을 다하게 하는 출발점이라 하겠다. 그리고 이를 통해 스타일을 경쟁의 수단을 삼으려는 도덕적 해이와 치열한 경제행위를 문화화하려는 맹목에 경종을 울림과 더불어, '기능이 보이지 않는 제품'의 확산이 가져올 제품의 시각화에 제동을 걸 수 있는 인식적 바탕을 제공할 수 있을 것으로 기대한다.

Therefore, the goal of this research is based on studying customers behavior that is distinguished cause in selling space in the department store. First, to notice the meaning of consumption to the modern society, secondly, to analyze how customers behave differently according to various shape of selling spaces, thirdly, with precise understanding of buyers consumption behavior, to suggest the fundamental information In department merchandizing planning for maximized selling.

  • In order to reduce a aerodynamic drag of the rear, body, effects of rear lower end configuration of a vehicles were investigated by measuring the pressure distribution, visual flow phenomena by the use of digital image processing technique. The use of flow visualization in recent years has improved the general understanding of structure of complex flow and has yielded valuable information for analyzing fluid flow. As the results, it was found that the shape of rear lower part vehicles not only effected on the pressure distribution of the rear part of the vehicle but also difference of the flow phenomena.

정적 연소실내에서 화염 전파 과정에 대한 실험적 연구 (The Experimental study on the Flame Propagation Process of a Constant Volume Combustion Chamber)

  • It is necessary to measure pressure, temperature, chemical equilibrium and the shape of flame in order to understand the combustion process in a combustion chamber. In particular, the flame formulation and combustion process of divided combustion chamber are different from those of a single chamber, And the variable diameter of a jet hole can effect not only physical properties like ejection velocity, temperature and time of combustion but also a chemical property like the reaction mechanism. Accordingly temperature is one of the most important factors which influence the combustion mechanism. This paper observed shape of flame by using the schlieren photographs and measured the pressure in a combustion chamber and the reaching time of the flame by ion probe By doing these, we investigation the formulation of the flame and the process of propagation. These measurement methods can be advanced in understanding the combustion process and process and propagation of flame.

중국동남부지역 민가의 주공간 구성과 기능 (Spatial layouts and function of the chinese private house in south-east area)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze spatial characteristics of Chinese traditional residents. This study was carried out in order to have a clear understanding of how cultures of neighboring countries influence Korean residential history and to grasp an objective view on characteristics of Korean houses by comparing and contrasting the characteristics of Chinese residents. This survey was conducted by observing, interviewing, taking pictures and analyzing the pictures that were taken on the real spot. Additional data were collected by participating the seminars of Chinese experts on the traditional house. The spatial layouts and function of Chinese traditional house were analyzed by using pictures, sketches and data which were gathered by interviewing and observing. The shape of Chinese traditional unit plans of houses is basically linear. By repeating this linear shape in the south.north and east.west side, various shapes are formed as an outcome. tangwu and woshi, the living space of Chinese traditional house are strictly hierarchical.
