  • The purpose of this study was to compare the ultra-violet(UV) radiation under the landscaping shade facilities and tree with natural solar UV of the outdoor space at summer middays. The UVA+B and UVB were recorded every minute from the $20^{th}$ of June to the $26^{th}$ of September 2012 at a height of 1.1m above in the four different shading conditions, with fours same measuring system consisting of two couple of analog UVA+B sensor(220~370nm, Genicom's GUVA-T21GH) and UVB sensor(220~320nm, Genicom's GUVA-T21GH) and data acquisition systems(Comfile Tech.'s Moacon). Four different shading conditions were under an wooden shelter($W4.2m{\times}L4.2m{\times}H2.5m$), a polyester membrane structure ($W4.9m{\times}L4.9m{\times}H2.6m$), a Salix koreensis($H11{\times}B30$), and a brick-paved plot without any shading material. Based on the 648 records of 17 sunny days, the time serial difference of natural solar UVA+B and UVB for midday periods were analysed and compared, and statistical analysis about the difference between the four shading conditions was done based on the 2,052 records of daytime period from 10 A.M. to 4 P.M.. The major findings were as follows; 1. The average UVA+B under the wooden shelter, the membrane and the tree were $39{\mu}W/cm^2$(3.4%), $74{\mu}W/cm^2$(6.4%), $87{\mu}W/cm^2$(7.6%) respectively, while the solar UVA+B was $1.148{\mu}W/cm^2$. Which means those facilities and tree screened at least 93% of solar UV+B. 2. The average UVB under the wooden shelter, the membrane and the tree were $12{\mu}W/cm^2$(5.8%), $26{\mu}W/cm^2$(13%), $17{\mu}W/cm^2$(8.2%) respectively, while the solar UVB was $207{\mu}W/cm^2$. The membrane showed the highest level and the wooden shelter lowest. 3. According to the results of time serial analysis, the difference between the three shaded conditions around noon was very small, but the differences of early morning and late afternoon were apparently big. Which seems caused by the matter of the formal and structural characteristics of the shading facilities and tree, not by the shading materials itself. In summary, the performance of the four landscaping shade facilities and tree were very good at screening the solar UV at outdoor of summer middays, but poor at screening the lateral UV during early morning and late afternoon. Therefore, it can be apparently said that the more delicate design of shading facilities and big tree or forest to block the additional lateral UV, the more effective in conditioning the outdoor space reducing the useless or even harmful radiation for human activities.

  • Recently, there have been previous research about the iris recognition in mobile device to increase portability, whose accuracy is affected by the quality of iris image. Iris image is affected by illumination environment during the image acquisition. The existing system has high accuracy in indoor environment. However the accuracy is degraded in outdoor environment, because the gray levels of iris patterns in image are changed, and ghost and eyelash shading regions are produced by the sunlight of various wavelengths into iris region. To overcome these problems, we propose new mobile iris camera system which uses the near-infrared (NIR) light illuminator of 850 nm and band pass filter (BPF) of 850 nm. To measure the performance of the proposed system, we compared it to the existing one with the iris images captured in indoor and outdoor sunlight environments in terms of the equal error rates (EER) based on false acceptance rate (FAR) and false rejection rate (FRR). The experimental result showed that the proposed system had the lower EERs than those of previous system by 0.96% (with frontal light in indoors), 4.94% (with frontal light in outdoor), 9.24% (with side light in outdoor), and 7% (with back light in outdoor), respectively.

  • This study analyzed the effects of light-shielding curtains and halogens on spectrum when acquiring hyperspectral images in a greenhouse. The image data of tarp (1.4*1.4 m, 12%) with 30 degrees of angles was achieved three times with four conditions depending on 14 heights using the automatic image acquisition system installed in the greenhouse at the department of Southern Area of National Institute of Crop Science. When the image was acquired without both a light-shielding curtain and halogen lamp, there was a difference in spectral tendencies between direct light and shadow parts on the base of 550 nm. The average coefficient of variation (CV) for direct light and shadow parts was 1.8% and 4.2%, respective. The average CV value was increased to 12.5% regardless of shadows. When the image was acquired only used a halogen lamp, the average CV of the direct light and shadow parts were 2 .6% and 10.6%, and the width of change on the spectrum was increased because the amount of halogen light was changed depending on the height. In the case of shading curtains only used, the average CV was 1.6%, and the distinction between direct light and shadows disappeared. When the image was acquired using a shading curtain and halogen lamp, the average CV was increased to 10.2% because the amount of halogen light differed depending on the height. When the average CV depending on the height was calculated using halogen and light-shielding curtains, it was 1.4% at 0.1m and 1.9% at 0.2 m, 2 .6% at 0.3m, and 3.3% at 0.4m of height, respectively. When hyperspectral imagery is acquired, it is necessary to use a shading curtain to minimize the effect of shadows. Moreover, in case of supplementary lighting by using a halogen lamp, it is judged to be effective when the size of the object is less than 0.2 m and the distance between the object and the housing is kept constant.

  • In this study we developed the visualization scheme of spatial ground-motion measurements in real time by using DSS data. Even though this scheme itself is useful for national earthquake mitigation plans, this scheme could be served as the crucial core for constructing rapid earthquake damage evaluation system. DSS is the abbreviation of Data Subscription Service and this is the pre-assigned request for the seismic stations to send very limited brief data with high priority and negligible transmission load. In addition to visualize the damage area with intensity, the corresponding epicenter can be estimated roughly for quick event alarm. For the interpolation of spatially irregular PGA data, the program, named as surface. of GMT was used with NetCDF grid file format. Since the grid file is similar to a postscript file, the program, called as shading, was coded with C language by using Matpak library in order to convert grid files into image files.

  • We focus our attention on grading of table meat in accordance with the standard of Japan Meat Grading Association, and construct a beef grading system by image processing. For image processing of beef grading, it needs some techniques such as a shading correction, separation of color image data, and classification of color image data into some grades, for the system construction. However, there are various kinds of weak points in usually used methods for these techniques. Then the authors propose and introduce new approaches using Neural networks and fuzzy inference for the techniques above mentioned, which is very convenient and ensure the high precision.

  • The lightshelf system, a horizontal shading and light redirect device, should improve the visual environment by optimal light distributions and intense illumination levels of a interior. This study aims to evaluate the daylighting performance of window integrated lightshelf systems by computer simulations. For the study, the standard office plan is analyzed through the field surveys. And then, the various lightshelf types attached window systems are picked out from existed research results. The max, minimum and average illuminance levels of interiors and illuminance distributions are evaluated by Lightsacpe 3.2 programs based on the installing height, shape type and moving angle of lightshelfs. As results, it is suggested that the optimum lightshelf shapes are the height 1.8m and the width 600mm. Also, in mixed lightshelf, the outside width 600mm, inside width 400 are efficient on indoor daylighting performance.

  • There have been many researches on the 3D graphic accelerator for high speed by needs of CAD/CAM,3D modeling, virtual reality or medical image. In this paper, an SIMD processor architecture for 3D graphic accelerator is proposed in order to improve the processing time of the 3D graphics, and a parallel Phong shading algorithm is presented to estimate performance of the proposed architecture. The proposed SIMD processor architecture for 3D graphic accelerator consists of PCI local bus interface, 16 Processing Elements (PE's), and Park's multi-access memory system (NAMS) that has 17 memory modules. A serial algorithm for Phong shading is modified for the architecture and the main key is to divide a polygon into $4\times{4}$ squares. And, for processing a square, 4 PE's are regarded as a PE Grou logically. Since MAMS can support block access type with interval 1, it is possible that 4 PE Groups process a square at a time. In consequence, 16 pixels are processed simultaneously. The proposed SIMD processor architecture is simulated by CADENCE Verilog-XL that is a package for the hardware simulation. With the same simulated results as that of the serial algorithm, the speed enhancement by the parallel algorithm to the serial one is 5.68.
