  • In general, truck-involved crashes increase severity in terms of both injury level and crash impact level. Recently, although the frequency and fatality of truck-involved crashes in Korea are rising, their associative studies are very limited. Therefore, the objective of this study is to identify critical factors influencing on injury severity of truck-involved crashes on Korean freeway system. To carry out this objective, this study uses an ordered probit model (OPM) based on a 6-year crash dataset from 2012 to 2017. From the analysis, eight variables were found to have a great effect on injury severity: older driver, crash speed, rear-end collision, number of vehicles involved, drowsy driving, nighttime (0:00 to 6:00) driving, overturn or rollover, and vehicle's fire after crash. However, injury severity was less severe in crashes under snowy condition and crashes to traffic facilities (i.e., crash alone).

  • The purpose of this study is to classify the various problems in surface road according to their severity and to propose a priority decision making process for road policy makers. For this purpose, the road problems reported by Cheok-cheok app were classified, and the EPDO was adopted and calculated as an index of their severity. To test applicability of the proposed process, some images of road problems reported by the app were classified and annotated, and the Deep Learning was used for machine learning of the curated images, and then the other images of road problems were used for verification. The detecting success rate of the road problems with high severity such as road kills, obstacles in a lane, road surface cracks was over 90%, which shows the applicability of the proposed process. It is expected that the proposed process will make the app possible to be used in the filed to make a priority decision making by classifying the level of severity of the reported road problems automatically.

  • Construction safety control system had improved constantly but the severity rate of injury don't reduced, safety level of construction don't progressed as usual. In order to reduce of the severity rate of injury safety control in site is important but it needs to improve form of system that introduce obligation of safety design and design safety appraisement, an effect use method of safety control cost. The safety control cost is problem that reduce than design cost accordance bidding rate and use a little safety facility cost compare with labor cost. This study tried reduce the severity rate of injury by propose effective improvement scheme through relevant problem analysis to the safety control cost and remove caution that the severity rate of injury don't reduced.

  • Failure Mode Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMECA) is one of most widely used methods in modern engineering system to investigate potential failure modes and its severity upon the system. While performing FMECA, the experts evaluates criticality and severity of each failure mode and visualize the risk level matrix putting those indices to column and row variable respectably. Which results uncertainty in the result. In order to handle the uncertainty and conclude risk level matrix, this paper proposes a new FMECA procedure using minimal cut set (MCS) and fuzzy theory. Severity is calculated by proposed structural importance while criticality is determined by typical equipment failure rate data from IEEE Std 493. Finally, the risk level is compounded of these indices.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the influencing factors on the appraisal of uncertainty in patients having rheumatoid arthritis. Subjects of the study constituted 528 patients who visited outpatient clinics of two university hospitals and one general hospital in Seoul. Self report questionnaires were used to measure the variables influencing the appraisal of uncertainty. Reliability coefficients of these instruments were found Cronbach's Alpha=$.70{\sim}.96$. In data analysis, SPSS PC 6.0 program was utilized for descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation, logistic and multiple regression analysis. The results of logistic and multiple regression analysis were as follows 1) Among the independent variables, significant factors to explain the appraisal of uncertainty in patients were uncertainty(p<.001), severity of illness(p<.05), educational level (p<.05) and age (p<.05). 2) When patients appraised uncertainty as "Danger", significant factors to explain the appraisal of uncertainty were uncertainty(p<.0001), age(p<.0005), severity of illness(p<.001), educational level (p<.05). 3) When patients appraised uncertainty as "Opportunity", significant factors to predict the appraisal of uncertainty were uncertainty(p<.0005), social support(p<.0005), severity of illness(p<.005), credible authority(p<.05), age(p<.05) and educational level (p<.05).

  • We studied the factors that would affect the severity of psychiatric symptoms of the Sampoong accident survivors. In this study, the analyzed factors are sex, age, marital status, educational level, loss of consciousness, witness of death, death of related person, duration until the rescue, duration of hospitalization, and psychiatric treatment after the accident. Although our study has some limitations, we found some factors that affect the severity of psychiatric symptoms after the severe traumatic accident.

  • This study was attempted to help in explore new direction about classification of the severity of the pediatric patients visiting emergency center. Data were collected from 276 patients who visited emergency center of E University Hospital during 3 months period from March 1, to May 31,1999. The results were as follows: 1. The degree of severity of the pediatric patients visiting emergency center shown ranged 0-18 and averaged .87. 2. With the respect to the severity of the pediatric patients visiting emergency center, there were statiscally significant difference in patients' visiting time(F=2.607, p=.025), disease classification(F=9.606, p=.000), consciousness level(F=71.499, p=.000), period of symptom manifestation (F=2.262, p=.030), pediatric patients protector's thinking about pediatric patients state (F=16.833, p=.000), treatment outcome (t=5.362, p=.000), duration of stay at emergency center(F=23.944, p=.000).

  • Risk level for each construction work can be very important factors to establish advanced preventionmeasures. But it is important how to produce it. There are three different methods to set it up for consturuction situation. They are as follows; 1) occurrence frequency = the number of accident workers of each work kind / yearly accident workers 2) occurrence frequency = the number of accident workers of each work kind / yearly workers 3) occurrence frequency = the number of accident workers of each work kind / the total workers All these three concepts(=averaged concept)are analyzed. Additionally frequency based on discrete curve, and severity based on continuous curve are also combined for producing risk level with more scientific approach. This risk level can be very useful to make prevention plan or take measures at construction sites. This is study result can change existing risk level concept to new concept of it, namely rail way work and in-water work showed be high risk level and RC work be low risk level, different from the situation which we have thought commonly, so far.

  • In order to maximize the effect of left ventricular assist device (LVAD) on ventricular unloading, the therapy should be begun at appropriate level of heart failure severity. We predicted pumping efficacy of LVAD according to the severity of heart failure theoretically. We used 3 dimensional finite element model of ventricle coupled with 6 Wind-kessel compartmental model of vascular system. Using the computational model, we predicted cardiac responses such as contractile ATP consumption of ventricle, left ventricular pressure, cardiac output, ejection fraction, and stroke work according to the severity of ventricular systolic dysfunction under the treatments of continuous LVAD. Contractile ATP consumption, which indicates the ventricular energetic loading condition decreased maximally at the $5^{th}$ level heart-failure under LVAD therapy. We conclude that optimal timing for LVAD treatment is $5^{th}$ level heart-failure when considering LVAD treatment as "bridge to recovery".
