  • There are various technical problems need to be solved in the construction process of pre-setting an isolation wall into a double lane in the outburst prone mine. This study presents a methodology that pre-setting an isolation wall into a double lane without a coal pillar. This requires the excavation of two small section roadways to dig a wide section roadway, followed by construction of the separation wall. During this process the connecting lane is reserved. In order to ensure the stability of the separation wall, the required bearing capacity of the isolation wall is 4.66 MN/m and the deformation of the isolation wall is approximately 25 cm. To reduce the difficulty of implementing support the roadway is driven by 5 m/d. After the construction of the separation wall, the left side coal wall is brushed 1.5 m to make the width of the gas roadway reach 2.5 m and the roadway support utilizes anchor rod, ladder beam, anchor cable beam and net configuration. During construction, the concrete pump and removable self-propelled hydraulic wall mold are used to pump and pour the concrete of the isolation wall. In the process of mining, the stress distribution of coal body and isolation wall is detected and measured on site. The results demonstrate that the deformation of the surrounding rock of roadway and separation of roof in the roadway is small. The stress of the bolt and anchor cable is within equipment tolerance validating their selection. The roadway is well supported and the intended goal is achieved. The methodology can be used for reference for similar mine gas control.

  • All bearing device should be examined to determine that they are functioning properly. Small changes in other portions of the structure, such as pier or abutment settlement, may be reflected in the bearings. Bearings should be checked to see that they can move freely and are clear of all foreign material. Shoes should be in proper position relative to the temperature at the time of the inspection. Check anchor bolts for any damage and to see that nuts are secure. See that anchor bolt nuts are properly set on the expansion bearings to allow normal movement. In this paper, rehabilitation method for damaged bearings is proposed and damage example of the skewed bridge is illustrated

  • By the typhoon "MAEMI" in 2003, a lot of marine accidents such as stranding, collision etc. occurred to the vessels at anchor in "JINHAE MAN" which was considered one of the most safe sheltering anchorage in Korea. These accidents resulted from the dragging of anchor by the strong winds. It needs to compare the external forces with the holding powers of anchors to estimate if the anchor will be dragged or not. However, the calculation of the force by the wind on the ship, in particular, on the wind pressure area which changes by the swinging of her bow is not yet set on a thesis. Therefore, this paper verified that how many times the front wind pressure area should be applied to calculate the force by the wind on the ship at anchor by comparing and analyzing the numerical calculation with, the actual ship's data which was really dragged by the strong wind.

  • A series of experiment is carried out to determine the holding power of the existing anchors used in the stationary gear in the coast of the South sea. The experiment apparatus is made of the pulling machine, the load cell, the personal computer and three water tanks the bottom of which are mud, sand and m & s respectively. The result obtained are as follows : 1. On the tension and holding power of the existing anchors, B-type of the stock anchor with two fluke shows the greatest and gets smaller on order of A-type one with a fluke. The holding power of the anchors shows the greatest in the mud and gets smaller in order of m & s, sand. And, the holding power depending upon the length of anchor rope increase as the length does up to the 4 times of depth. 2. On the holding power per fluke area of the existing anchors in case of ration of length of anchor rope to depth is 2, 3 and 4, A-type anchor shows about 310-320 kg/m supper(2), 470-480 kg/m supper(2), 590-640 kg/m supper(2) respectively, B-type one 260-265 kg/m supper(2), 390-450 kg/m supper(2), 630-700 kg/m supper(2) respectively, and C-type one 70-100 kg/m supper(2), 150-180 kg/m supper(2), 210-270 kg/m supper(2) respectively. The holding power per fluke area of the anchors increase as the length of anchor rope does. 3. On the coefficient of holding power of the existing anchors, A-type anchor shows the greatest and gets smaller in the order of B-type one, C-type one.

  • It was set up MCS and MS of ship's distance measuring system in land and ship respectively and ship's track including dropped and hove up anchor was tracked by mean of measurement for ship's position, relative bearing and distance from MCS to MS. Results analyzed for possibility of real time anchoring watch and effectiveness of measuring position are as follow; (1) The elapsed time from dropped anchor to hove up anchor is 4 minutes and the elapsed time to start recording ship's track after set up anchoring state is 10 minutes approximately. (2) Shape of hull's swing during anchoring is mostly 8 figue-like or rarely peanut-like shape. (3) Mean anchoring position during whole measuring time was shifted 49m north and 89m eastly. (4) Ship's track were moved counter-clockwise for $8.1^\circ$ range from relative bearing $186.1^\circ$ to $194.2^\circ$ ellipse-like tracks with the major axis 63m and the minor axis 53m. (5) High frequency of ship's position distribution was shown at relative bearing $187^\circ$ and distance 558m while low frequency was shown at relative bearing $194^\circ$ and distance 556m. (6) The designed ship's distance measuring system by PRTK-GPS was fit very well for anchoring watch as secured necessary area demanded for dragging anchor as well as anchoring by means of real time measurement both in distance and bearing.

  • Although programs have been developed to evaluate the risk of dragging anchors, it is practically difficult for VTS(vessel traffic service) operators to calculate and evaluate these risks by obtaining input factors from anchored ships. Therefore, in this study, the gross tonnage (GT) that could be easily obtained from the ship by the VTS operators was set as an independent variable, and linear and nonlinear regression analyses were performed using the input factors as the dependent variables. From comparing the fit of the polynomial model (linear) and power series model (nonlinear), the power series model was evaluated to be more suitable for all input factors in the case of container ships and bulk carriers. However, in the case of tanker ships, the power supply model was suitable for the LBP(length between perpendiculars), width, and draft, and the polynomial model was evaluated to be more suitable for the front wind pressure area, weight of the anchor, equipment number, and height of the hawse pipe from the bottom of the ship. In addition, all other dependent variables, except for the front wind pressure area factor of the tanker ship, showed high degrees of fit with a coefficient of determination (R-squared value) of 0.7 or more. Therefore, among the input factors of the dragging anchor risk assessment program, all factors except the external force, seabed quality, water depth, and amount of anchor chain let out are automatically applied by the regression analysis model formula when only the GT of the ship is provided.

  • As the welding spot forms a singular geometry of an external crack type, fatigue failure of spot-welded specimens can be evaluated by means of a fracture parameter. Recasting the load vs. fatigue life relationships experimentally obtained, we predicted the fatigue life of spot-weld specimens with a single parameter denoted the equivalent stress intensity factor. This crack driving parameter is demonstrated to successfully describe the effects of specimen geometry and loading type in a comprehensive manner. The suggested fatigue life formula for a single spot weld can play a key role in the design and assessment of spot-welded panel structures, in that the fatigue strength of multi-spots is eventually determined by the fatigue strength of each single spot. We therefore attempt to evaluate the effectiveness and validity of $K_e$ in predicting the fatigue life of auto seat belt anchor panel. We first establish finite element models reflecting the actual mechanical behavior of 3 types of seat belt anchor specimens. Using finite element models elaborately established, we then obtain the effective crack driving parameter $K_e$ composed of its ductility -dependent modal components. It is confirmed that the $K_e$ concept successfully predicts the fatigue life of multi-spot welded panel structures represented by auto seat belt anchors here.

  • Sensor localization is one of the fundamental problems in wireless sensor networks. Previous localization algorithms can be classified into two categories, the GGB (Global Geometry-Based) approaches and the LGB (Local Geometry-Based). In the GGB approaches, there are a fixed set of reference nodes of which the coordinates are pre-determined. Other nodes determine their positions based on the distances from the fixed reference nodes. In the LGB approaches, meanwhile, the reference node set is not fixed, but grows up dynamically. Most GGB algorithms assume that the nodes are deployed in a convex shape area. They fail if either nodes are in a concave shape area or there are obstacles that block the communications between nodes. Meanwhile, the LGB approach is vulnerable to the errors in the distance estimations. In this paper, we propose new localization algorithms to cope with those two limits. The key technique employed in our algorithms is to determine, in a fully distributed fashion, if a node is in the line-of-sight from another. Based on the technique, we present two localization algorithms, one for anchor-based, another for anchor-free localization, and compare them with the previous algorithms.

  • 360-degree video streaming technologies have been widely developed to provide immersive virtual reality (VR) experiences. However, high computational power and bandwidth are required to transmit and render high-quality 360-degree video through a head-mounted display (HMD). One way to overcome this problem is by transmitting high-quality viewport areas. This paper therefore proposes a motion-constrained tile set (MCTS)-based tile extractor for versatile video coding (VVC). The proposed extractor extracts high-quality viewport tiles, which are simulcasted with low-quality whole video to respond to unexpected movements by the user. The experimental results demonstrate a savings of 24.81% in the bjøntegaard delta rate (BD-rate) saving for the luma peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) compared to the rate obtained using a VVC anchor without tiled streaming.
