Application of the Microsoft robotics studio (MSRS) to the design of a factory safety monitoring robot is presented. Basic structures of the MSRS and the service are introduced. The service is the key building block of the MSRS. Control of the safety monitoring robot is performed using four basic services: 1) the robot service which communicates with the embedded micro-processor and other services, 2) the sensor service that notifies the subscribing services of the change of the sensor value, 3) the motor service which controls the power levels to the motors, 4) the drive service which maneuvers the robot. With built-in capabilities of the MSRS, control of factory safety monitoring robot can be more easily performed.

A new paradigm based on distributed manufacturing services is emerging. This paradigm shift can be realized by smart functions and smart technologies such as Cyber Physical System (CPS), Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Cloud Computing. Most architectures define stack levels from Level 0 (equipment) to Level 4 (business area) and specify the services to be provided between them. Because of their a rough technical specification, there is a limitation on how to actually utilize a technology to actually implement a smart factory service with this architecture. In this paper, we propose a smart factory architecture that can be utilized directly from the perspective of a smart service system by making the use of System Engineering Process and System Modeling Language (SysML).
Purpose This study investigates the impact of organizational characteristics on organizational performance through case studies of smart factory implementation in the context of Korean small and medium Enterprises (SMEs). To achieve this goal, this study adopts the smart factory index of KOSMO (Korea Smart Manufacturing Office) established by Korean Ministry of SMEs and Startups. We visited 3 firms implemented smart factory projects. This study presents the results of field study in detail with evaluation criteria on how organizational competences like AI technology adoption and facility automation can be exploited to positively influence organizational performance through smart factory implementation. Design/methodology/approach There are not so many results of empirical studies related to smart factories in Korea. This is because organizational support and user involvement are required for facility AI platform service beyond factory automation after the start of the 4th Industrial Revolution. Korean government's KOSMO (Korean Smart Manufacturing Office) has developed and proposed a level measurement index for smart factory implementation. This study conducts case studies based on the level measurement method proposed by KOSMO in the process of conducting case studies of three companies belonging to the root and mechanic industries in Korea. Findings The findings indicate that organizational competences, such as facility AI platform adoption and user involvement, are antecedents to influence smart factory implementation, while smart factory implementation has significant relationship with organizational performance. This study provides a better understanding of the connection between organizational competences and organizational performance through smart factory case studies. This study suggests that SMEs should focus on enhancing their organizational competences for improving organizational performance through implementing smart factory projects.
The plant factory represents one of the future agricultural systems into which ubiquitous information technology (U-IT) is incorporated, including sensor networking, and helps minimize the influence of external experimental factors that constrain the use of existing greenhouse cultivation techniques. A plant factory's automated cultivation system does not merely provide convenience for crop cultivation, but also expandability as a platform that helps build a knowledge database based on its acquired information and develop education and other application services using the database. For the expansion of plant factory services, this study designed a plant factory interworking service (PFIS) which allows plant factories to share crop growth-related information efficiently among them and performed a test on the service and its implementation.

Recently, many companies are interested in smart factory services. Because various smart factory services are provided by the combination of mobile devices, cloud computing, and IoT services. However, many workers turn away from these systems because most of them are not implemented from the worker's point of view. To solve this, we implemented a development tool that allows field workers to produce their own services so that workers can easily create smart factory services. Manufacturing data is collected in real time from sensors which are connected to manufacturing facilities and stored within smart factory platforms. Implemented development tools can produce services such as monitoring, processing, analysis, and control of manufacturing data in drag-and-drop. The implemented system is effective for small manufacturing companies because of their environment: making various services quickly according to the company's purpose. In addition, it is assumed that this also will help workers' improve operation skills on running smart factories and fostering smart factory capable personnel.

Advances in technologies about 3D (three-dimensional) printing and smart factory related issues will have the effect of reducing the cost of building a smart factory and making various types of service available. Manufacturers and service providers of small assets work with outside experts to provide small amounts of customized ordering services. If customers have to disclose their private information to subscribe to a new service, they may be reluctant to use it and the availability of developed technology may cause slow progress. We propose a new protocol for customized order service for smart factory. The proposed approach is designed to meet requirements of security and based on smart contract in IoT convergence network. We analyzed the requirements of the proposed approach which provided anonymity, privacy, fairness, and non-repudiation. We compared it with closely related studies to show originality and differences.

This paper suggests the Facility Management System for plant factory promising to be a core technology of the agriculture in the future. This system makes diagnoses that status from sensors or facilities in the factory for exact operation and monitors the internal environment with the control status in real-time. It is expected that we could operate a plant factory safely and effectively by using the system. The system consists of the data management module, the context provider module, the context interpreter module, the service provider module, the data storage and user interface. The system provide with the failure diagnosis service, the facility control service, and the high-reliability monitoring service via the interactions between above modules. The failure diagnosis service determines whether the sensors or facility devices are in failure or not, and informs the administrator of their conditions. The facility control service is activated in case if the facilities need to be managed during the diagnosis for failure or malfunction processes. The high-reliability monitoring service provides the administrator with verified data through the failure diagnosis service. Then we confirmed that the suggested system operates correctly through the system simulation.
