  • We analyze the effect of main inertial sensor errors such as, misalignment, scale factor error and bias on the performance of modified sequential probability ratio test (SPRT) for sequential fault detection and isolation (FDI). The inertial sensor errors cause the modified SPRT method to give false alarm. We use a two-stage KF to obtain a modified parity vector with which the inertial sensor errors can be removed and thus modified SPRT method can be used regardless of inertial sensor errors.

  • We characterize the solution set for a second-order cone linear fractional optimization problem (P). We present sequential Lagrange multiplier characterizations of the solution set for the problem (P) in terms of sequential Lagrange multipliers of a known solution of (P).

  • In 2009, Japanese government requires exporters to have individual export licenses for certain items and removes South Korea from White Countries. The export control and regulations are likely to be affected by political factors. This study aims to analyze Japan-South Korea trade dispute with a sequential game with incomplete information. The results show that Japan may apply trade regulations on Korea regardless of efficiency of Korea and the possibilities of regulations increases when political factors are important in its decision on export policy.

  • The conventional approximate optimization method, which uses the statistical design of experiments(DOE) and response surface method(RSM), can derive an approximated optimum results through the iterative process by a trial and error. The quality of results depends seriously on the factors and levels assigned by a designer. The purpose of this study is to propose a new technique, which is called a sequential design of experiments(SDOE), to reduce a trial and error procedure and to find an appropriate condition for using artificial neural network(ANN) systematically. An appropriate condition is determined from the iterative process based on the analysis of means. With this new technique and ANN, it is possible to find an optimum design accurately and efficiently. The suggested algorithm has been applied to various mathematical examples and a structural problem.

  • This paper Presents an algorithm for synthesis of sequential statements described at RT level VHDL. The proposed algorithm transforms sequential statements in VHDL into data-flow description consisting of concurrent statements by local and global dependency analysis and output dependency elimination. Transformation into concurrent statements makes it possible to reduce the cost of the synthesized hardwares, thus to get optimal synthesis results that will befit the designer 's intention. This algorithm has been implemented on VSYN and experimental results show that more compact gate-level hardwares are generated compared with Power View system from ViewLogic and Design Analyzer from Synopsys.

  • The use of Precast Concrete (PC) stairways is increasing to replace existing Reinforced Concrete (RC) stairways for the faster construction and the better quality control. Among several already developed PC stairway construction methods, RC Core Sequential Construction Method by Using PC Stairways (COSEC) has advantages of 1) allowing core of a building to be built prior to PC stairways so that two different procedures will not interfere with each other, and 2) having a newly developed joint connection with the core so that the RC core and PC stairways can be easily put together. In this paper, cases of several construction sites with the PC stairways method are analyzed. The elements of the developed method are described for further application and improvement.

  • Spectrum sensing is one of the most important functions in cognitive radio systems. In this paper, we focus on reducing the sensing time in a cooperative spectrum sensing paradigm. In the proposed scheme, a sequential detection technique is employed to provide a robust and quick detection system. Each of the secondary users measures the log-likelihood probability of the received signals and then sequentially reports to the base station. Here, the maximum ratio combining (MRC) technique is employed to reduce the average sample number (ASN) in order to reduce the sensing time. This proposed scheme is analyzed and simulated to illustrate the performance in comparison with the other given methods. Analysis and simulation are provided to validate the proposed method.

  • This paper presents a new approach which is able to determine the reasonable incentive levels of direct load control using sequential Monte Carlo simulation techniques. The economic analysis needs to determine the reasonable incentive level. However, the conventional methods have been based on the scenario methods because they had not considered all cases of the direct load control situations. To overcome there problems, this paper proposes a new technique using sequential Monte Carlo simulation. The Monte Carlo method is a simple and flexible tool to consider large scale systems and complex models for the components of the system. To show its effectiveness, numerical studies were performed to indicate the possible applications of the proposed technique.

  • The gamma distribution is a flexible right-skewed distribution widely used in many areas, and it is of great interest to estimate the probability of a random variable exceeding a specified value in survival and reliability analysis. Therefore, the study develops a fixed-accuracy confidence interval for P(X > c) when X follows a gamma distribution, Γ(α, β), and c is a preassigned positive constant through: 1) a purely sequential procedure with known shape parameter α and unknown rate parameter β; and 2) a nonparametric purely sequential procedure with both shape and rate parameters unknown. Both procedures enjoy appealing asymptotic first-order efficiency and asymptotic consistency properties. Extensive simulations validate the theoretical findings. Three real-life data examples from health studies and steel manufacturing study are discussed to illustrate the practical applicability of both procedures.
