  • A common approach to achieve better thermal comfort with hydronic radiant floor heating system is supply water temperature control. This is the control method through which supply water temperature is varied with outdoor temperature. In this study, a comprehensive, yet simple calculation method to find optimum supply water temperature is evaluated by combining heat loss from the building and heat emission from the hydronic radiant floor heating system. And then the control performance of suggested calculation method is confirmed through experiment. It is shown that indoor air temperature is stably maintained around the set point.

  • Constant airflow should be kept in order to operate a constant-fired boiler of thermal power plants. Main Bearing Assembly Unit which rotates the ventilation fan does very important role to maintain constant airflow. However, the demand to the output of power is getting increased while the quality level of coal is getting worse than the initial level of design criteria. Especially cost wise operation considering increasing output and the difficulty to supply good quality coal drive increasing supply of low quality coal. As a result, the service life of Main Bearing Assembly is getting shorter till 2~3 years which is just a half of the life of original design. In this study, what causes to shorten the service life of Main Bearing Assembly Unit is analyzed through the reverse engineering and analysis and how to improve the service life more than two times to current situation is explained.

  • Objectives : To evaluate the analgesic effect of electroacupuncture on Choksamni (ST36) in the collagen-induced arthritis rats and investigate the role played by serotonergic receptor subtypes $(5-HT_{1A},\;5-HT_{1B},\;5-HT_4)$ in the antinociceptive effect of electroacupuncture in the thermal hyperalgesia test. Methods : Immunization of male Sprague-Dawley rats with bovine type II collagen emulsified in incomplete Freund's adjuvant, followed by booster injection 14 days later induced collagen-induced arthritis (CIA). The thermal hyperalgesia was evaluated weekly with tail flick latency (TFL). In the fourth week after first immunization. EA stimulation (2Hz, 0.07mA, 0.3ms) was delivered into Choksamni for 20 minutes. We measured the analgesic effect of EA with TFL afer intraperitoneal injection of normal saline, WAYl00635, SB216641 and GR125487. Results : TFLs were gradually decreased in CIA as time elapsed after the immunization of arthrogenic collagen and the maximum value was reached from third to fifth week. EA stimulation on ST36 inhibited chronic inflammatory pain induced by CIA. The analgesic effect of EA was inhibited by pretreatment of $5-HT_{1A}$. antagonist (WAYl00635), $5-HT_{1B}$ antagonist (SB216641) and $5-HT_4$ antagonist (GR125487). Conclusion : Electroacupuncture has the analgesic effect on chronic inflammatory pain and its mechanism was mediated by $5-HT_{1A}$, $5-HT_{1B}$ and $5-HT_4$.

  • Objectives: In order to investigate the efficacy and safety of the newly developed herbal medicine Jetongdan, a placebocontrolled, randomized clinical trial of patients with osteoarthritis of the knee was undertaken. Methods: Data were obtained from 80 patients with OA of the knee. After enrollment, they were asked to answer a disease-specific questionnaire (Western Ontario and McMaster Universities (WOMAC) OA index) and analyzed with the erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) in order to evaluate the efficacy of Jetongdan, and analyzed for aspartate transaminase (AST) level, alanine transaminase (ALT) level, blood mea nitrogen (BUN) level, and creatinine (Cr) level in order to evaluate the safety of Jetongdan. Results: The liver function and renal function did not deteriorate after treatment with Jetongdan. Composite WOMAC score and physical function subscale was improved, but pain subscale, stiffness subscale, and ESR were not improved by. This was possibly because the baseline characteristics of the two groups were not homogenized after randomization. Conclusions: Jetongdan could be a promising treatment option for osteoarthritis of the knee. Further study in a larger population with appropriate severity grades is recommended.

  • The seismic response characteristics of a port structure were investigated by the earthquake analyses of the structure subjected to high-, low-frequency component, and Uljin earthquakes. In the Fluid-Structure-Soil Interaction(FSSI) analysis, the fluid is modeled by the 4-node quadrilateral element which is a modification of a structural plane element, and the port structure and foundation is modelled by the plane strain element. Since the present method directly models the fluid-structure-soil interaction system using finite element method, it can be easily applied to the dynamic analysis of a 2-D fluid-port-soil system with complex geometry. The results of the seismic coefficient. added mass, and FSSI methods are compared. The results showed that the earthquake with high frequency components more affects the seismic response of the structure than that of low frequency components.

  • Tuberculosis, a chronic infectious granulomatous disease, is presumed to be quite a rare entity. Because of the development of chemotherapy and the improvement of nutritional conditions, incidence of tuberculosis have reduced. For these reasons, tuberculosis may be overlooked in the differential diagnosis whenever dealing with a submandibular swelling. Diagnosis of tuberculous lymphadenitis consists of historical data, physical findings, laboratory tests and histologic examination. The treatment of choice seems to be surgical excision and long term antituberculosis chemotherapy. Surgery provides a rapid tissue diagnosis, because the histological examination of the excisional biopsy is the most reliable diagnostic test. This is the report of a case of tuberculous cervical lymphadenitis on left submandibular area with no evidence of the involvement of lung.
