The maintenance of sensor networks, especially sensor networks installed in a wide area for regional monitoring has been an issue for a long time. In this study, a system that supplies energy to the sensor network using a robot is proposed, and the survival conditions of the sensor network are identified using the energy consumption rate of the sensor network, the energy transfer rate, and the moving distance of the robot as variables. Through numerical verification and robot charging simulation, the proposed system survival conditions are shown to be valid, and the feasibility of the maintenance method of the sensor network using the robot is validated through actual charging experiments.

This paper describes the measurement technology of the dissolved hydrogen gas due to partial discharge in oil using gas sensor. For higher resolution and less error in measurement of the dissolved hydrogen gas in oil, the sensor outputs with ambient temperature which affect the sensor output characteristics should be considered. The sensor output trends with ambient temperature and the properties of the dissolved hydrogen gas in oil with partial discharge characteristic were analyzed through the test results. It was indicated that the sensor peak and the base voltage with measuring time were affected by ambient temperature and the measurement errors of the sensor output by temperature were reduced by using the difference between the peak and the base voltage rather than just the peak voltage. In addition, the hydrogen gas sensor outputs were increased with the increase of partial discharge energy.
A low power gas sensor with microheater was fabricated by MEMS technology. In order to heat up the gas sensing material to a operating temperature, a platinum(Pt) micro heater was built on to the micromachined Si substrate. The width and gap of microheater were $20\;{\mu}m$ and $4.5\;{\mu}m$, respectively. ZnO nanowhisker arrays were fabricated on a sensor device by hydrothermal method. The sensor device was deposited with ZnO seeds using PLD systems. A 200 ml aqueous solution of 0.1 mol zinc nitrate hexahydrate, 0.1 mol hexamethylenetetramine, and 0.02 mol polyethylenimine was used for growthing ZnO nanowhiskers. The power consumption to heat up the gas sensor to a operating temperature was measured and temperature distribution of sensor was analyzed by a Infrared Thermal Camera. The optimum temperature for highest sensitivity was found to be $250^{\circ}C$ although relatively high(64 %) sensitivity was obtained even at as low as $150^{\circ}C$. The power consumption was 72 mW at $250^{\circ}C$ and was only 25 mW at $150^{\circ}C$.

The mine-detection system, which is one of the various mission equipments for Ground Vehicle System, detects mine under the ground. The mine detection sensors comprised of Metal Detection(MD) sensor and Ground Penetration Radar(GPR) are attached on the end of the multi-DOF manipulator. The manipulator moves the sensor to sweep mine areas keeping the pre-determined distance between the sensor and ground to enhance mine detection performance. The detection system can be operated automatically, semi-automatically and manually. When the detection system is operated automatically, the sensor should avoid collisions with unexpected obstacles which may exist on the ground. Two types of ultra-sonic sensors were developed for the mine detection sensor system to keep the appropriate gap between sensor and the ground to avoid the obstacles. Also, mine place marking device was developed.
Many hospitals have been considering new technology such as wireless sensor network(WSN). The technology can be used to track the location of medical devices needed for inspections or repairs, and it can also be used to detect of a theft of an asset. In an asset-tracking system using WSN, acquiring the location of moving sensor nodes inherently introduces uncertainty in location determination. In fact, the sensor nodes attached to an asset are prone to failure from lack of energy or from physical destruction. Therefore, even if the asset is located within the predetermined area, the asset-tracking application could "misunderstand" that an asset has escaped from the area. This paper classifies the causes of such unexpected situations into the following five cases: 1) an asset has actually escaped from a predetermined area; 2) a sensor node was broken; 3) the battery for the sensor node was totally discharged; 4) an asset went into a shadow area; 5) a sensor node was stolen. We implemented and installed our asset-tracking system in a hospital and continuously monitored the status of assets such as ventilators, syringe pumps, wheel chairs and IV poles. Based on this real experience, we suggest how to differentiate each case of location uncertainty and propose possible solutions to prevent them.

This paper proposed an algorithm that detects boundary nodes effectively in wireless sensor network. A boundary node is a sensor that lies on the border of network holes or the outer boundary of wireless sensor network. Proposed algorithm detects boundary nodes using only the position information of sensors. In addition, to improve detect performance, sensor computes the overlap area of nearest sensor first. Simulation is performed to validate the process of the proposed algorithm. In Simulation, several obstacles are placed and varying number of sensors in the range of 500~1500 are deployed in the area in order to reflect real world. The simulation results shows that proposed algorithm detects boundary nodes effectively that are located on the border of holes and the outer boundary of wireless sensor network.

In this study, a new potentiometric sensor selective to copper(II) ions was developed and characterized. The developed sensor has a polymeric membrane and contains 4.0% electroactive material (ionophore), 33.0% poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC), 63.0% bis(2-ethylhexyl)sebacate (BEHS) and 1.0% potassium tetrakis(p-chlorophenyl)borate (KTpClPB). This novel copper(II)-selective sensor exhibits a Nernstian response over a wide concentration range from 1.0×10-6 to 1.0×10-1 mol L-1 with a slope of 29.6 (±1.2) mV decade-1, and a lower detection limit of 8.75×10-7 mol L-1. The sensor, which was produced economically by synthesizing the ionophore in the laboratory, has a good selectivity and repeatability, fast response time and stable potentiometric behaviour. The potential response of the sensor remains unaffected of pH in the range of 5.0-10.0. Based on the analytical applications of the sensor, we showed that it can be used as an indicator electrode in the quantification of Cu2+ ions by potentiometric titration against EDTA, and can also be successfully utilized for the determination of copper(II) ions in different real samples.

As nation and society progresses, urban ground facilities and their management system get more complicated and the cost and effort to control the system efficiently grows exponentially. This study suggests to the deployment method of a sensor node by Wireless Sensor Network for controling the Urban Ground Facilities of National Facilities. First, we achieve the management facilities and method using the first analysis and then make the coverage of sensing and then set up the Sensor Node in Urban Ground Facilities. Second, we propose the solution way of repetition by the second analysis. And, we embody the GIS program by Digital Map and this method, we improve the reality by overlapping an aerial photo. Also we make an experience on the sensor node allocation using making program. we can remove the repetition sensor node about 50%, and we can confirm that the sensor nodes are evenly distributed on the road.

This paper investigates the method to implement a RF (Radio Frequency) energy harvesting sensor node and to build a sensor network using a CATV network and a leaky coaxial cable. The power supply of a sensor node is designed with the WPTS (Wireless Power Transfer System) receiver operating at 915MHz. A sensor network has limited coverage by the loss of RF signal at a wireless transmission link. The paper proposes to build a sensor network that the BLE signal of a sensor and the signal of a WPTS power transmitter are transmitted through a coaxial cable of a CATV network by utilizing WOC (WiFi over Coax) technology and radiates at a leaky coaxial cable. The length of a leaky coaxial cable and the total loss of a wire link are allowed to the point that the RSSI of a sensor node is more than the minimum value (-78dBm) and lead to extend wireless coverage.

This paper designs a smart safety measurement system with Bluetooth beacon sensor nodes that can provide risk detection and evacuation/countermeasure services. The Bluetooth beacon sensor nodes is easily able to be attached to old building wall or construction or civil structure with potential danger. The proposed smart safety measurement system transmits various sensor data such as acceleration, gyroscope, geomagnetic, pressure, altitude, temperature, humidity at the spot where Bluetooth beacon sensor nodes are installed, and we can use them for risk perception, prediction, and warning services. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed system, we performed filed tests which showed that measured displacement values of precast retaining walls were within the permitted displacement value of 38.5 mm.
