A Study on the Gas Sensing Characteristics of Pt/$SnO_2$ Gas Sensor (Pt/$SnO_2$ 가스 센서의 가스 감지 특성에 관한 연구)

  • A hydrogen gas sensor utilizing Pt/$SnO_2$ system was fabricated by the pressed pellet method. The crystal structure, direction of the crystal, crystal size and microstructure between the catalyst and the support ($SnO_2$) were characterized with Electron Diffraction Analysis, Transmission Electron Microscopy, Scanning Electron Microscopy. After the reactor with a Pt/$SnO_2$ sample was run with a flow rate of 30sccm (a mixture of $0.5%H_2$ in $N_2$) for a while, the resistance of $SnO_2$ was saturated, but the $SnO_2$ kept absorbing $H_2$ gas. $H_2$ gas sensing properties of Pt/$SnO_2$ were investigated at several temperatures. As a result, it was observed that Pt/$SnO_2$ has high sensitivity at $300^{\circ}C$ and $400^{\circ}C$.

Characteristics and Preparation of Gas Sensor Using Nano-ZnO Powders (나노 ZnO 분말을 이용한 가스센서 제작 및 특성연구)

  • Nanorod ZnO and spherical nano ZnO for gas sensors were prepared by hydrothermal reaction method and hydrazine method, respectively. The nano-ZnO gas sensors were fabricated by a screen printing method on alumina substrates. The gas sensing properties were investigated for hydrocarbon gas. The effects of Co concentration on the structural and morphological properties of the nano ZnO:Co were investigated by X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscope (SEM), respectively. XRD patterns revealed that nanorod and spherical ZnO:Co with a wurtzite structure were grown with (100), (002), (101) peaks. The sensitivity of nanorod and spherical ZnO:Co sensors was measured for 5 ppm $CH_4$ and $CH_3CH_2CH_3$ gas at room temperature by comparing the resistance in air with that in target gases. The highest sensitivity to the $CH_4$ and $CH_3CH_2CH_3$ gas of spherical nano ZnO:Co sensors was observed at Co 6 wt%. The spherical nano ZnO:Co sensor exhibited a higher sensitivity to hydrocarbon gas than nanorod ZnO.

Effect of Al Doping on the Properties of ZnO Nanorods Synthesized by Hydrothermal Growth for Gas Sensor Applications

  • In the present investigation we show the effect of Al doping on the length, size, shape, morphology, and sensing property of ZnO nanorods. Effect of Al doping ultimately leads to tuning of electrical and optical properties of ZnO nanorods. Undoped and Al-doped well aligned ZnO nanorods are grown on sputtered ZnO/SiO2/Si (100) pre-grown seed layer substrates by hydrothermal method. The molar ratio of dopant (aluminium nitrate) in the solution, [Al/Zn], is varied from 0.1 % to 3 %. To extract structural and microstructural information we employ field emission scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction techniques. The prepared ZnO nanorods show preferred orientation of ZnO <0001> and are well aligned vertically. The effects of Al doping on the electrical and optical properties are observed by Hall measurement and photoluminescence spectroscopy, respectively, at room temperature. We observe that the diameter and resistivity of the nanorods reach their lowest levels, the carrier concentration becomes high, and emission peak tends to approach the band edge emission of ZnO around 0.5% of Al doping. Sensing behavior of the grown ZnO nanorod samples is tested for H2 gas. The 0.5 mol% Al-doped sample shows highest sensitivity values of ~ 60 % at 250 ℃ and ~ 50 % at 220 ℃.

A Stereo Camera Based Method of Plane Detection for Path Finding of Walking Robot (보행로봇의 이동경로 인식을 위한 스테레오카메라 기반의 평면영역 추출방법)

  • This paper presents a method to recognize the plane regions for movement of walking robots. When the autonomous agencies using stereo camera or laser scanning sensor is under unknown 3D environment, the mobile agency has to detect the plane regions to decide the moving direction and perform the given tasks. In this paper, we propose a very fast method for plane detection using normal vector of a triangle by 3 vertices defined on a small circular region. To reduce the effect of noises and outliers, the triangle rotates with respect to the center position of the circular region and generates a series of triangles with different normal vectors based on different three points on the boundary of the circular region. The vectors for several triangles are normalized and then median direction of the normal vectors is used to test the planarity of the circular region. The method is very fast and we prove the performance of algorithm for real range data obtained from a stereo camera system.

Ethanol Gas Sensing Properties of NiO-based Composite Oxide Semiconductor with Co3O4 Nanoparticles (산화코발트 나노입자의 첨가에 따른 산화니켈 기반 반도체 산화물의 에탄올 가스 검출 특성 향상)

  • NiO nanoparticles were synthesized by hydrothermal method for the application to ethanol gas sensor. They were composited with $Co_3O_4$ nanoparticles to improve the sensitivity to ethanol gas. Scanning electron microscopy revealed that the synthesized NiO nanoparticles were plate-shaped with the approximate size and thickness of 60 - 120 nm and 20 nm, respectively. On the other hand, $Co_3O_4$ nanoparticles mixed with NiO was observed to be spherical with the size range of 30 - 50 nm. The sensitivities of NiO sensors composited with $Co_3O_4$ nanoparticles at an optimal ratio of 8 : 2 were enhanced to approximately 1.44 - 1.79 times as high as those of as-synthesized NiO sensors for the ethanol concentration of 10 - 200 ppm at $200^{\circ}C$. The mechanism of the improved ethanol gas sensing of the NiO sensors composited with $Co_3O_4$ nanoparticles was discussed.

NO2 gas sensing properties of UV activated ZnS nanowires at room temperature (상온에서 UV 활성화된 ZnS 나노와이어의 NO2 가스 검출 특성)

  • ZnS nanowires were synthesized in order to investigate $NO_2$ gas sensing properties. They were grown on the sapphire substrate using ZnS powders. SEM (scanning electron microscopy) showed the diameter and length of the ZnS nanowires were approximately in the range of 50 - 100 nm and a few $10s\;{\mu}m$, respectively. They were also found to be composed of Wurtzite- structured single crystals from TEM (transmission electron microscopy) analysis. $NO_2$ gas sensing performance of the ZnS nanowire was measured with electrical resistance changes caused by $NO_2$ gas with a concentration of 1-5ppm. The sensor was UV treated with an intensity of $1.2mW/cm^2$ to facilitate charge carrier transfer. The responses of the ZnS nanowires to the $NO_2$ gas at room temperature, treated with UV of two different wavelengths of 365 nm and 254 nm, are measured to be 124.53 - 206.87 % and 233.97 - 554.83%, respectively. In the current work, the effect of UV treatment on the gas sensing performance of the ZnS nanowires was studied. And the underlying mechanism for the electrical resistance changes of the ZnS nanowires by $NO_2$ gas was also discussed.

HearCAM Embedded Platform Design (히어 캠 임베디드 플랫폼 설계)

  • In this paper, we implemented the HearCAM platform with Raspberry PI B+ model which is an open source platform. Raspberry PI B+ model consists of dual step-down (buck) power supply with polarity protection circuit and hot-swap protection, Broadcom SoC BCM2835 running at 700MHz, 512MB RAM solered on top of the Broadcom chip, and PI camera serial connector. In this paper, we used the Google speech recognition engine for recognizing the voice characteristics, and implemented the pattern matching with OpenCV software, and extended the functionality of speech ability with SVOX TTS(Text-to-speech) as the matching result talking to the microphone of users. And therefore we implemented the functions of the HearCAM for identifying the voice and pattern characteristics of target image scanning with PI camera with gathering the temperature sensor data under IoT environment. we implemented the speech recognition, pattern matching, and temperature sensor data logging with Wi-Fi wireless communication. And then we directly designed and made the shape of HearCAM with 3D printing technology.

Fabrication of the FET-based SPM probe by CMOS standard process and its performance evaluation (CMOS 표준 공정을 통한 SPM 프로브의 제작 및 그 성능 평가)

  • In this paper, we report the fabrication of the tip-on-gate of a field-effect-transistor (ToGoFET) probe using a standard complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) process and the performance evaluation of the fabricated probe. After the CMOS process, I-V characteristic measurement was performed on the reference MOSFET. We confirmed that the ToGoFET probe could be operated at a gate voltage of 0 V due to channel ion implantation. The transconductance at the operating point (Vg = 0 V, Vd = 2 V) was 360 ㎂/V. After the fabrication process was completed, calibration was performed using a pure metal sample. For sensitivity calibration, the relationship between the input voltage of the sample and the output current of the probe was determined and the result was consistent with the measurement result of the reference MOSFET. An oxide sample measurement was performed as an example of an application of the new ToGoFET probe. According to the measurement, the ToGoFET probe could spatially resolve a hundred nanometers with a height of a few nanometers in both the topographic image and the ToGoFET image.

Calibration of Hydrographic Survey Multibeam System Using Terrestrial Laser Scanning and TS Surveying (지상 레이저 스캐닝과 TS 측량을 이용한 멀티빔 시스템의 검·보정)

  • In hydrographic survey, data surveyed with multibeam system includes various errors due to multiple factors. These are corrected by a calibration called patch test, and if existing method is used, the test needs to be conducted for about 8 times for precise system calibration. For more prompt and precise multibeam system calibration, the exact offset of a ship was determined using terrestrial laser scanning and TS surveying, which was used as the initial input for the patch test. In the result, the error of closure was 0.001 m or less for TS surveying and backsight error was 0.005 m or less for scanning. All the surveying data based on the same local coordinate was converted into vessel reference coordinate during which R-square for all rotation angles was 0.99 or higher and standard deviation was 0.008 m or less. Finally, in a patch test using calculated offset of sensors and motion sensor offset, the offset of MBES transducer satisfied manual on hydrography only with 1-time calibration. With these results, it is thought that terrestrial laser scanning and TS surveying can fully be utilized for multibeam system calibration.

Analysis of Optimal Pathways for Terrestrial LiDAR Scanning for the Establishment of Digital Inventory of Forest Resources (디지털 산림자원정보 구축을 위한 최적의 지상LiDAR 스캔 경로 분석)

  • This study was conducted to identify the applicability of a LiDAR sensor to forest resources inventories by comparing data on a tree's position, height, and DBH obtained by the sensor with those by existing forest inventory methods, for the tree species of Criptomeria japonica in Jeolmul forest in Jeju, South Korea. To this end, a backpack personal LiDAR (Greenvalley International, Model D50) was employed. To facilitate the process of the data collection, patterns of collecting the data by the sensor were divided into seven ones, considering the density of sample plots and the work efficiency. Then, the accuracy of estimating the variables of each tree was assessed. The amount of time spent on acquiring and processing the data by each method was compared to evaluate the efficiency. The findings showed that the rate of detecting standing trees by the LiDAR was 100%. Also, the high statistical accuracy was observed in both Pattern 5 (DBH: RMSE 1.07 cm, Bias -0.79 cm, Height: RMSE 0.95 m, Bias -3.2 m), and Pattern 7 (DBH: RMSE 1.18 cm, Bias -0.82 cm, Height: RMSE 1.13 m, Bias -2.62 m), compared to the results drawn in the typical inventory manner. Concerning the time issue, 115 to 135 minutes per 1ha were taken to process the data by utilizing the LiDAR, while 375 to 1,115 spent in the existing way, proving the higher efficiency of the device. It can thus be concluded that using a backpack personal LiDAR helps increase efficiency in conducting a forest resources inventory in an planted coniferous forest with understory vegetation, implying a need for further research in a variety of forests.
