  • Congestion control in Cluster Wireless Sensor Networks (CWSNs) has drawn widespread attention and research interests. The increasing number of nodes and scale of networks cause more complex congestion control and management. Active Queue Management (AQM) is one of the major congestion control approaches in CWSNs, and Random Early Detection (RED) algorithm is commonly used to achieve high utilization in AQM. However, traditional RED algorithm depends exclusively on source-side control, which is insufficient to maintain efficiency and state stability. Specifically, when congestion occurs, deficiency of feedback will hinder the instability of the system. In this paper, we adopt the Additive-Increase Multiplicative-Decrease (AIMD) adjustment scheme and propose an improved RED algorithm by using neighbor feedback and scheduling scheme. The congestion control model is presented, which is a linear system with a non-linear feedback, and modeled by Lur'e type system. In the context of delayed Lur'e dynamical network, we adopt the concept of cluster synchronization and show that the congestion controlled system is able to achieve cluster synchronization. Sufficient conditions are derived by applying Lyapunov-Krasovskii functionals. Numerical examples are investigated to validate the effectiveness of the congestion control algorithm and the stability of the network.

  • In this paper, we present a data dissemination protocol that guarantees energy-efficient data transmission and maximizes network lifetime. SPMS that outperforms the well-known protocol SPIN uses the shortest path to minimize the energy consumption. However, since it repeatedly uses the same path, maximizing the network lifetime is impossible. In this paper, we propose a protocol for data dissemination called the protocol Considering Between Energy and Distance (ConBED). It solves the network lifetime problem using the residual energy and the distance between nodes to determine a path for data dissemination. The simulation results show that ConBED guarantees energy-efficient transmission and increases the network lifetime by approximately 69% than that of SPMS.

  • Dummy messages are usually generated for faking in preserving the location privacy of a sink or source against the global eavesdropping in wireless networks. In this paper, we propose a new method in which a certain number of nodes determined by considering the required privacy level are made to transit to the dormant state doing nothing so that the total number of dummy messages is reduced, while the paths from the sink to the sources are ensured. Through simulation we verify the success ratio of path establishments between the sink and a set of sources and the location privacy level of them.

  • Recently, Study for routing protocol is gone vigorously in the Ubiquitous Sensor Network. A hierarchical routing protocol is being practical and received interest among them. Therefore we analyze a weak point of HEED. And I suggest the new protocol that solved a weak point of HEED. The new protocol that we propose puts weight in the energy remainder amount than HEED and elect CH. And elected CH is designed to change by new node when quantity of energy leftover becomes less than 50%. Therefore all nodes come to use energy fairly. The protocol that we proposed can prove the cluster survival rate about 30%. And CH is more effective because when elect CH replace, response time selects small node.

  • Energy harvesting from the vibration through the piezoelectric effect has been studied for powering the small wireless sensor nodes. As piezoelectric uni-morph cantilever structure can transfer low vibration to large displacement, this structure was commonly deployed to harvest electric energy from vibrations. Through our previous results, when stress was applied on the cantilever, stress was concentrated on the certain point of the ceramic of the cantilever. In this study, for miniaturing the energy harvester, we investigated how the size of ceramics and the stress distribution in ceramic affects energy harvester characteristics. Even though the area of ceramic was 28.6 % decreased from $10{\times}35{\times}0.5mm^3$ to $10{\times}25{\times}0.5mm^3$, both samples showed almost same maximum power of 0.45 mW and the electro-mechanical coupling factor ($K_{31}$) of 14 % as well. This result indicated that should be preferentially considered to generate high power with small size energy harvester.

  • Most of ubiquitous computing devices such as stereo camera, ultrasonic sensor based MIT cricket system and other wireless sensor network devices are widely applied to the 2 Dimensional(2D) localization system in today. Because stereo camera cannot estimate the optimal location between moving node and beacon node in Wireless Personal Area Network(WPAN) under Non Line Of Sight(NLOS) environment, it is a great weakness point to the design of the 2D localization system in indoor environment. But the conventional 2D triangulation scheme that is adapted to the MIT cricket system cannot estimate the 3 Dimensional(3D) coordinate values for estimation of the optimal location of the moving node generally. Therefore, the 3D triangulation scheme based on the space segmentation in WPAN is suggested in this paper. The measuring data in the suggested scheme by computer simulation is compared with that of the geographic measuring data in the AutoCAD software system. The average error of coordinates values(x,y,z) of the moving node is calculated to 0.008m by the suggested scheme. From the results, it can be seen that the location correctness of the suggested scheme is very excellent for using the localization system in WPAN.

  • Complementary trees are two spanning trees rooted at the sink node satisfying that any source node's two paths to the sink node on the two trees are node-disjoint. Complementary trees routing strategy is a special node-disjoint multi-path routing approach. Several complementary trees routing algorithms have been proposed, in which path discovery methods based on depth first search (DFS) or Dijkstra's algorithm are used to find a path for augmentation in each round of path augmentation step. In this paper, a novel path discovery method based on multi-tree-growing (MTG) is presented for the first time to our knowledge. Based on this path discovery method, a complementary trees routing algorithm is developed with objectives of low average path length on both spanning trees and low complexity. Measures are employed in our complementary trees routing algorithm to add a path with nodes near to the sink node in each round of path augmentation step. The simulation results demonstrate that our complementary trees routing algorithm can achieve low average path length on both spanning trees with low running time, suitable for wireless sensor networks in industrial scenarios.

  • Structural control technologies have attracted great interest from the earthquake engineering community over the last few decades as an effective method of reducing undesired structural responses. Traditional structural control systems employ large quantities of cables to connect structural sensors, actuators, and controllers into one integrated system. To reduce the high-costs associated with labor-intensive installations, wireless communication can serve as an alternative real-time communication link between the nodes of a control system. A prototype wireless structural sensing and control system has been physically implemented and its performance verified in large-scale shake table tests. This paper introduces the design of this prototype system and investigates the feasibility of employing decentralized and partially decentralized control strategies to mitigate the challenge of communication latencies associated with wireless sensor networks. Closed-loop feedback control algorithms are embedded within the wireless sensor prototypes allowing them to serve as controllers in the control system. To validate the embedment of control algorithms, a 3-story half-scale steel structure is employed with magnetorheological (MR) dampers installed on each floor. Both numerical simulation and experimental results show that decentralized control solutions can be very effective in attaining the optimal performance of the wireless control system.

  • This paper proposes a new method to optimize energy consumption in a wireless modem by setting up a transmission power value according to the distance between nodes and circumstance in the MAC layer of IEEE 802.15.4. The proposed method can dynamically find an optimal transmission power range using the binary search scheme and minimize overhead caused by multiple message transmissions when determining the optimal transmission power. The determined transmission power is used for transmitting data packets and can be modified dynamically depending on the changes in a network environment when exchanging data packets and acknowledgement signals. The results of the simulations show 30% reduction in energy consumption while 2.5 times increase in data transmission rate per unit of energy comparing with IEEE 802.15.4 standard.
