  • Advances in smart sensors, embedded systems, low-power design, ad-hoc networks and MEMS have allowed the development of low-cost small sensor nodes with computation and wireless communication capabilities that can form distributed wireless sensor networks. Time information and time synchronization are fundamental building blocks in wireless sensor networks since many sensor network applications need time information for object tracking, consistent state updates, duplicate detection and temporal order delivery. Various time synchronization protocols have been proposed for sensor networks because of the characteristics of sensor networks which have limited computing power and resources. However, none of these protocols have been designed with time representation scheme in mind. Global time format such as UTC TOD (Universal Time Coordinated, Time Of Day) is very useful in sensor network applications. In this paper we propose network time protocol extension for global time presentation in wireless sensor networks.

  • The position of sensors generally affects coverage, communication costs, and resource management of surveillance sensor networks. Thus we are required to place a sensor in the best location. However, it is difficult to consider that terrain and climate factors influencing sensors when sensor nodes are deployed in the real world, such as a mountain area or a downtown area. We therefore require a sensor deployment method for detecting effectively targets of interest in terms of surveillance area coverage in such environment. Thus in this paper, we analyze various environmental factors related to sensor deployment, and quantify these factors to use when we deploy sensors. By considering these quantified factors, we propose a practical and effective method for deploying sensors in terms of sensing coverage. We also demonstrate the propriety of the proposed method through implementing a sensor deployment management system according to the method.

  • Currently various techniques for efficiently developing sensor network applications are developed. However, these techniques provide the method for developing only single sensor network application easily and rapidly. Since sensor network applications control various sensor nodes based on core components of operating system, the technique to develop applications by defining common functionalities of various applications and selecting variable functionalities according to the work flow of specific application is efficient. Accordingly, this paper presents an experimental study that identifies commonality of sensor network application domain and supports optional development according to the variability of application by applying product line approach to developing sensor network application. Through the experimental study, we describe the characteristics of sensor network application domain compared with general business domain for product line development. Also, we show the effectiveness of the proposed approach by presenting that core assets designed using the proposed variability feature model and VEADL are reused according to the functionalities of each sensor node.

  • In this paper, we propose the Agricultural Environment Monitoring System based on Sensor Network which can collect information of crop cultivation environment and monitor it in real-time by using various environment sensors. Existing wireless sensor nodes, based on the sensor network, require extra conversion/control module depending on the characteristics. To solve this problem, we developed an integrated sensor module which can integrate various kinds of sensors used to obtain the necessary information for the area under crop cultivation. In addition, we developed sensor networks monitoring system which is suitable for an integrated sensor module. To verify the operating status of the proposed system, an integrated sensor node is installed in the test environment so that it can sense information of the environment and monitor it in real-time.

  • The sensor network is applied from the field which is various. The sensor network nodes are exchanged with mobile environment and they construct they select cluster and cluster headers. In this paper, we propose the Dynamic Prediction Clustering Algorithm use to Skyline queries attributes in direction, angel and hop. This algorithm constructs cluster in base mobile sensor node after select cluster header. Propose algorithm is based made cluster header for mobile sensor node. It "Adv" reduced the waste of energy which mobile sensor node is unnecessary. Respects clustering where is efficient according to hop count of sensor node made dynamic cluster. To extend a network life time of 2.4 times to decrease average energy consuming of sensor node. Also maintains dynamic cluster to optimize the within hop count cluster, the average energy specific consumption of node decreased 14%.

  • Advances in wireless communication and hardware technology have made it possible to manufacture high-performance tiny sensor nodes. More recently, the availability of inexpensive CMOS cameras that are able to capture multimedia data from the environment has fostered the development of Wireless Multimedia Sensor Networks (WMSNs). WMSN with the CMOS imaging sensor which is cheaper and consumes lower power than the CCD will not only enhance existing sensor network but also enable several new application such as multimedia surveillance sensor network, multimedia environment monitoring. This paper presents the design of a multimedia sensor network with the image sensor mote developed by us using the CMOS. Given new multimeida sensor network, the new image collecting protocol was tested and analyzed.

  • In contrast to traditional "store-and-forward" routing mechanisms, network coding offers an elegant solution for achieving maximum network throughput. The core idea is that intermediate network nodes linearly combine received data packets so that the destination nodes can decode original files from some authenticated packets. Although network coding has many advantages, especially in wireless sensor network and peer-to-peer network, the encoding mechanism of intermediate nodes also results in some additional security issues. For a powerful adversary who can control arbitrary number of malicious network nodes and can eavesdrop on the entire network, cryptographic signature schemes provide undeniable authentication mechanisms for network nodes. However, with the development of quantum technologies, some existing network coding signature schemes based on some traditional number-theoretic primitives vulnerable to quantum cryptanalysis. In this paper we first present an efficient network coding signature scheme in the standard model using lattice theory, which can be viewed as the most promising tool for designing post-quantum cryptographic protocols. In the security proof, we propose a new method for generating a random lattice and the corresponding trapdoor, which may be used in other cryptographic protocols. Our scheme has many advantages, such as supporting multi-source networks, low computational complexity and low communication overhead.

  • Lightweight trust mechanism with lightweight cryptographic primitives has emerged as an important mechanism in resource constraint wireless sensor based mobile devices. In this work, outlier detection in lightweight Mobile Ad-hoc NETworks (MANETs) is extended to create the space of reliable trust cycle with anomaly detection mechanism and minimum energy losses [1]. Further, system is tested against outliers through detection ratios and anomaly scores before incorporating virtual programmable nodes to increase the efficiency. Security in proposed system is verified through ProVerif automated toolkit and mathematical analysis shows that it is strong against bad mouthing and on-off attacks. Performance of proposed technique is analyzed over different MANET routing protocols with variations in number of nodes and it is observed that system provide good amount of throughput with maximum of 20% increase in delay on increase of maximum of 100 nodes. System is reflecting good amount of scalability, optimization of resources and security. Lightweight modeling and policy analysis with lightweight cryptographic primitives shows that the intruders can be detection in few milliseconds without any conflicts in access rights.

  • In this paper we studied the radiation detection technology which described the radiation level distribution in high radiation area with remotely and safely. The designed radiation mapping system was composed of radiation nodes and radiation station. The radiation nodes could sense the radiation dose values with pMOSFET radiation sensors and transmit them to the radiation station. At the radiation station the received radiation values were merged with a geometric information and visualized at the virtual graphic location. For the functional verification of the above system, we attached the radiation nodes to each corner in our laboratory, executed the mapping tests, and confirmed the designed functions finally.

  • In this paper, we investigate the capture effect through experiments conducted with Iris nodes equipped with AT86RF230 radio transceivers. It is shown that the first arriving packet in a collision can capture the radio channel for equal power transmissions and may be decoded depending on the amount of overlap. A new 3-packet-capture scenario is introduced and implemented. To be able to understand the impact of capture on the throughput performance of wireless sensor networks, we present an analysis of the capture coefficient using our practical results. For real-world implementations, the throughput of pure ALOHA considering a finite number of users is presented in analytical form. The capture coefficient is then applied to pure ALOHA as a case study. Using analytical and practical implementations of the capture effect on ALOHA, a very good match in channel throughput performance enhancement is demonstrated over the non-capture effect case. TinyOS-2.x is used to program the nodes and to observe data exchange on a computer through a base station.
