An Integrated Sensor Module for Diagnosis of Closed Switchboards (수배전반 진단을 위한 통합형 센서모듈)

  • According to the statistical report from National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in Korea, the accident rate of closed switchboards in power systems occupies over 40%. In this paper, an integrated sensor module for monitoring the condition of closed switchboards is described. The sensor module monitors electro-magnetic (EM) wave, ultra-violet (UV) ray, heat and smoke generated by electrical discharges or insulation breakdown. The effective detection ranges were decided from experiment results; 100 kHz~10 MHz for EM wave, 220 nm~395 nm for UV ray and 0~$150^{\circ}C$ for heat, respectively. The prototype sensor module includes all functions above-mentioned in one device.

  • In the photovoltaic applications, MPPT(maximum power point tracking) method is essential due to the non-lineality of photovoltaic output characteristics. To ensure stable tracking response, two sensors are required in conventional popular MPPTs. In modularized PV system as an AC module system, the cost of a sensor can have an effect on entire system cost because a power conditioning device is connected in a PV module. Because only a current sensor is required for proposed MPPT, it is helpful in the cost reduction point of view. In this paper, a novel MPPT using current sensor is proposed In the proposed MPPT, the voltage is derived from sensed current value. The proposed method is verified by simulation results.

  • A portable ECG sensor module and monitoring system which has the powerline noise reduction and the baseline wander removal is proposed. A small-szie ECG sensor H/W module with the 8-bits microprocessor is implemented. The ECG waveform can be inspected anytime with PDA in real time, and transmitted to the PC through wireless LAN. Portable ECG system can offer the environment that give the lasting medical service to the elderly and the long-time hospitalized patients at the wanted place, and the system can be attached to the chair, wheel chair, treadmill, elderly walker and used to monitor the health condition of man

  • This paper represents a development of a range finder sensor module for indoor 2-D mapping and modified Hough transformation for map building. A range finder sensor module has been developed by using optic PSD (Position Sensitive Detector) sensor array at a low price. While PSD sensor is cost effective and light weighting, it has switching noise and white noise. To remove these noises, we propose a heuristic filter. For line-based map building, also we proposed advanced Hough transformation and navigation algorithm. Some experiments were illustrated for the validity of the developed system.

  • In this paper, we describe a sensor module that monitors fire environment by analyzing fire characteristics. We analyzed the smoke characteristics of indoor fire. Six different environments were defined according to the type of smoke and the flame, and the sensors available for each environment were combined. Based on this analysis, the sensors were selected from the perspective of firefighter. The sensor module consists of an RGB camera, an infrared camera and a radar. It is designed with minimum weight to fit on the robot. the enclosure of sensor is designed to protect against the radiant heat of the fire scene. We propose a single camera mode, thermal stereo mode, data fusion mode, and radar mode that can be used depending on the fire scene. Thermal stereo was effectively refined using an image segmentation algorithm, SLIC (Simple Linear Iterative Clustering). In order to reproduce the fire scene, three fire test environments were built and each sensor was verified.

Study on Wireless Acquisition of Vibration Signals (진동신호 무선 수집에 대한 연구)

  • A Wi-Fi signal network (WSN) system is introduced in this paper. This system consists of several data-transmitting sensor modules and a data-receiving server. Each sensor module and the server contain a unique intranet IP address. A piezoelectric accelerometer with a bandwidth of 12 kHz, a 24-bit analog-digital converter with a sampling rate of 15.625 kS/s, a 32-bit microprocessor unit, and a 1-Mbps Wi-Fi module are used in the data-transmitting sensor module. A 300-Mbps router and a PC are used in the server. The system is verified using an accelerometer calibrator. The voltage output from the sensor is converted into 24-bit digital data and transmitted via the Wi-Fi module. These data are received by a Wi-Fi router connected to a PC. The input frequencies of the accelerometer calibrator (320 Hz, 640 Hz, and 1280 Hz) are used in the data transfer verification. The received data are compared to the data retrieved directly from the analog-to-digital converter used in the sensor module. The comparison shows that the developed system represents the original data considerably well. Theoretically, the system can acquire vibration signals from 600 sensor modules at an accelerometer bandwidth of 15.625 kHz. However, delay exists owing to software processes, multiplexing between sensor modules, and the use of non-real time operating system. Hence, it is recommended that this system may be used to acquire vibration signals with up to 10 kHz, which is approximately 70% of the theoretical maximum speed of the system. An embedded vision system based on an analog VLSI Optical Flow vision sensor

  • We propose a novel programmable miniature vision module based on a custom designed analog VLSI (aVLSI) chip. The vision module consists of the optical flow vision sensor embedded with commercial off-the-shelves digital hardware; in our case is the Intel XScale PXA270 processor enforced with a programmable gate array device. The aVLSI sensor provides gray-scale imager data as well as smooth optical flow estimates, thus each pixel gives a triplet of information that can be continuously read out as three independent images. The particular computational architecture of the custom designed sensor, which is fully parallel and also analog, allows for efficient real-time estimations of the smooth optical flow. The Intel XScale PXA270 controls the sensor read-out and furthermore allows, together with the programmable gate array, for additional higher level processing of the intensity image and optical flow data. It also provides the necessary standard interface such that the module can be easily programmed and integrated into different vision systems, or even form a complete stand-alone vision system itself. The low power consumption, small size and flexible interface of the proposed vision module suggests that it could be particularly well suited as a vision system in an autonomous robotics platform and especially well suited for educational projects in the robotic sciences.

  • This paper describes a large area CMOS image sensor module Implementation using the precision align inspection program. This work is needed because wafer cutting system does not always have high precision. The program check more than 8 point of sensor edges and align sensors with moving table. The size of a $2{\times}1$ butted CMOS image sensor module which except for the size of PCB is $170mm{\times}170mm$. And the pixel size is $55{\mu}m{\times}55{\mu}m$ and the number of pixels is $3,072{\times}3,072$. The gap between the two CMOS image sensor module was arranged in less than one pixel size.

  • This significance of the infant care system has emerged due to sudden infant death during sleeping. This paper presented a design and implementation of a prototype model, which is a infant care device controlled by a smartphone using Bluetooth technology. Prototype Device Model consists of MCU(microcontroller unit), Accelerometer Sensor, Temperature Measuring Sensor, Sound Measuring Sensor, Bluetooth Module, and Camera Module. The proposed application transfers the information to the parent's smartphone and computers, such as infant's falling, crying, and fever detection. A test verified the availability of a prototype infant care system model using Bluetooth Low Energy with operating the low power driving.

  • Crimes related to illegal cameras are steadily increasing and causing social problems. Owing to the development of camera technology, the miniaturization and high performance of illegal cameras have caused anxiety among many people. This study is for detecting hidden cameras effectively such that they could not be easily detected by human eyes. An image sensor-based module with 940 nm wavelength infrared detection technology was developed, and an image processing algorithm was developed to selectively detect illegal cameras. Based on the Android smartphone environment, image processing technology was applied to an image acquired from an infrared camera, and a detection sensor module that is less sensitive to ambient brightness noise was studied. Experiments and optimization studies were conducted according to the Gaussian blur size, adaptive threshold size, and detection distance. The performance of the infrared image-based illegal camera detection sensor module was excellent. This is expected to contribute to the prevention of crimes related to illegal cameras.
