Light losses in optical fibers are investigated by a fiber optic OTDR (Optical Time Domain Reflectometry) sensor system to develop fiber optic probes for structural strain measurement. The sensing fibers are manufactured 3 kinds of fibers: one is single mode fiber, and second is multimode fiber, and the third is low-cladding-index fiber. Fiber bending tests are performed to determine the strain sensitivity according to the strain of gage length of optical fibers. In the result of this experiments, the strain sensitivity of the single mode fiber was shown the highest value than others. The fiber optic strain probe was manufactured to verify the feasibility of the structural strain measurement. In this test, the fiber optic strain probe of the OTDR sensor could be easily made by the single mode fiber.
Low power bridge type micro gas sensors were fabricated by micro machining technology with TMAH (Tetra Methyl Ammonium Hydroxide) solution. The sensing devices with different heater materials such as metal and poly-silicon were obtained using CMOS (Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor) compatible process. The tellurium films as a sensing layer were deposited on the micro machined substrate using shadow silicon mask. The low power micro gas sensors showed high sensitivity to NO with high speed. The pure tellurium film used micro gas sensor showed good sensitivity than transition metal (Pt, Ti) used tellurium film.

An experimental Investigation of the basic characteristics of a micro-cantilever sensor was performed by inspecting the amplitude and frequency characteristics of a commercial tuning fork (TF). Application of acetone and ethanol with a volume of $1{\mu}l$ on the tine of a vibrating tuning fork causes immediate response in its amplitude and frequency characteristics. It has been shown that the tuning fork has ability to recognize a chemical agent with high sensitivity. The theoretical sensitivity of mass loading is in the range of $\~0.1Hz/ng$. Quartz tuning forks are routinely made using standard microfabrication process, thus suggesting the possibility of microfabrication of micro quart sensors.

In this paper, we present the fabrication and characteristic analysis of Sagnac interferometric optical fiber senior(OFS) system for detecting pulsed ultrasonic signal in underwater. The hollow cylindrical mandrel wound round by single mode optical fiber is used as sensing component. The ultrasonic signal source is simulated by the PZT actuator operated by an function generator. The distance dependency of the OFS's sensitivity was measured. The sensitivity has been shown to be inversely propotional to the square-root of distance between ultrasonic source and sensing component. It has also been shown that the OFS could detect the signals less affected by ultrasonic path comparing to conventional acousto-electric sensor. and accurate location of ultrasonic signal could be carried out using two OFSs.

This paper describes on the fabrication and characteristics of a metal thin-film pressure sensor based on Cr strain-gauges for harsh environment applications. The Cr thin-film strain-gauges are sputter-deposited onto a micromachined Si diaphragms with buried cavity for overpressure protectors. The proposed device takes advantages of the good mechanical properties of single-crystalline Si as diaphragms fabricated by SDB and electrochemical etch-stop technology, and in order to extend the operating temperature range, it incorporates relatively the high resistance, stability and gauge factor of Cr thin-films. The fabricated pressure sensor presents a low temperature coefficient of resistance, high-sensitivity, low non-linearity and excellent temperature stability. The sensitivity is 1.097~1.21 $mV/V{\cdot}kgf/cm^2$ in the temperature range of $25{\sim}200^{\circ}C$ and the maximum non-linearity is 0.43 %FS.

This paper suggest the field test method of PD UHF sensor's sensitivity for a high voltage GIS and prove a reliability of the field test method through the test results of UHF sensor.
We have fabricated a multi-mode nonlinear plastic optical fiber (POF) using organic nonlinear optical materials and demonstrated the propagation of light. The refractive indices of core and cladding are 1.5240 and 1.5172. We made a POF preform by rod-in tube method. The core diameter of the fabricated POF is about $30{\mu}m$. We evaluated the temperature characteristics of POF. The sensitivity is $0.345{\;}mW/^{\circ}C$ and the linearity of sensor was good.
The Pd or Pt-doped $WO_{3}$ thin-film NOx sensor was fabricated. The $WO_{3}$-based thin films as a gas-sensing layer were deposited at ambient temperature in a high-vacuum resistance heated evaporator and annealed at $500^{\circ}C$. The gas sensitivity ($R_{gas}/R_{air}$) to 5 ppm $NO_{2}$ measured at the operating temperature of $300^{\circ}C$ was 50 (highest sensitivity) for the 0.5 wt.% $Pt-WO_{3}$ sensor.

A glucose biosensor using a microdisk resonator in polymeric waveguides was developed by observing either the shift in the resonant wavelength or the variation in the optical power. The deformation in the transfer curve of the vertically coupled resonator sensor resulting from the variation in the disk-to-ring coupling, which was incurred by the application of the target analyze, was suppressed. And the refractive index of the polymeric waveguide was devised to closely follow that of the analyze itself for enhancing the sensitivity of the sensor. The sensitivity and measurement range were observed to be respectively 0.14 pm/(mg/dL) and 1500 mg/dL (theoretically up to 4700 mg/dL, for the wavelength shift method and 0.04 dB/(mg/dU and 140 mg/dL the power variation scheme.
Although EOC data have been frequently used in several applications since the launch of the KOMPSAT-1 satellite in 1999, its radiometric characteristics are not clear due to the inherent limitations of the on-board calibration system. The radiometric characteristics of remotely sensed imagery can be measured by the sensitivity of radiant flux coming from various surface features on the earth. The objective of this study is to analyze the radiometric characteristics of EOC data by simulating the sensor- received radiance. Initially, spectral reflectance values of reference targets were measured on the ground by using a portable spectre-radiometer at the EOC spectrum. A radiative transfer model, LOWTRAN, then simulated the sensor-received radiance values of the same reference target. By correlating the digital number (DN) extracted from the EOC image to the corresponding radiance values simulated from LOWTRAN, we could find the radiometric calibration coefficients for EOC image. The radiometric gain coefficients of EOC are very similar to those of other panchromatic optical sensors.
