  • Numerous platforms have been developed for ZigBee-based network embedded systems. Also, operating systems like TinyOS have been installed to facilitate efficient implementation of wireless sensor network applications which collect data, and/or execute commands. First of all, porting an operating system on a new platform may need invention of a substitute for a required but unsupported hardware component. This paper presents a multiplexed virtual system timer for a platform without a counter comparator which we have contrived to emulate by using an extra counter. Such porting also injects unexpected faults which cause a variety of painful failures. Unfortunately, TinyOS requires to handle a lot of asynchronous hardware interrupts which are hard to trace during debugging. Besides, simulators are not available for a new platform since the models of hardware on the platform are not usually developed, yet. We propose novel instrumentation techniques which can be used to effectively trace the bugs in such lack of debugging environment. These techniques are used to identify and fix a great deal of nasty issues in porting TinyOS 2.0 on MG2400 and MG2455 platforms made by RadioPulse Inc.

  • Compared to sensors mainly used in human activity recognition (HAR) systems, inertial measurement unit (IMU) sensors are small and light, so can achieve lightweight system at low cost. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a binary neural network (BNN) based gait pattern analysis system using IMU sensor, and present the design and implementation results of an FPGA-based accelerator for computational acceleration. Six signals for gait are measured through IMU sensor, and a spectrogram is extracted using a short-time Fourier transform. In order to have a lightweight system with high accuracy, a BNN-based structure was used for gait pattern classification. It is designed as a hardware accelerator structure using FPGA for computation acceleration of binary neural network. The proposed gait pattern analysis system was implemented using 24,158 logics, 14,669 registers, and 13.687 KB of block memory, and it was confirmed that the operation was completed within 1.5 ms at the maximum operating frequency of 62.35 MHz and real-time operation was possible.

  • In this paper, we developed a 100% detection system for entering and leaving vehicles by improving the detection rate of existing detection cameras based on the LiDAR sensor, which is one of the core technologies of the 4th industrial revolution. Since the currently operating parking lot depends only on the recognition rate of the license plate number of about 98%, there are various problems such as inconsistency in the entry/exit count, inability to make a reservation in advance due to inaccurate information provision, and inconsistency in real-time parking information. Parking status information should be managed with 100% accuracy, and for this, we built a parking lot entrance/exit detection system using LIDAR. When a parking system is developed by applying the LIDAR sensor, which is mainly used to detect vehicles and objects in autonomous vehicles, it is possible to improve the accuracy of vehicle entry/exit information and the reliability of the entry/exit count with the detected sensing information. The resolution of LIDAR was guaranteed to be 100%, and it was possible to implement so that the sum of entering (+) and exiting (-) vehicles in the parking lot was 0. As a result of testing with 3,000 actual parking lot entrances and exits, the accuracy of entering and exiting parking vehicles was 100%.

  • Recently, due to the increase in domestic and international online e-commerce platforms and the increase in container traffic at domestic ports, the operating ratio of large trucks has increased, and the number of truck fires is continuously increasing. In particular, spontaneous combustion is the most common cause of truck fires. Various academic approaches have been attempted to prevent truck fires, but due to the lack of research on the spontaneous tire ignition phenomenon that occurs during braking, this research directly designed and manufactured an experimental device to establish an environment similar to the braking system of a truck. A non-contact temperature sensor was installed on the brake device of the experimental device to collect temperature data generated from the brake device. Based on the data collected from the temperature sensor of the brake device and the temperature sensor on the tire surface, the ARIMA model among the time series prediction models was used to Appropriate parameters were selected to suit the temperature change trend, and as a result of comparing and analyzing the measured and predicted data, an accuracy of over 90% was obtained. Based on this, a plan was proposed to reduce the rate of fires in trucks by providing real-time warnings and support for truck drivers to respond to overheating phenomena occurring in the braking system.

  • Recently, the battlefield environment has changed from platform-centric warfare(PCW) which focuses on maneuvering forces into network-centric warfare(NCW) which is based on the connectivity of each asset through the warfare information system as information technology increases. In particular, C4I(Command, Control, Communication, Computer and Intelligence) system can be an important factor in achieving NCW. It is generally used to provide direction across distributed forces and status feedback from thoseforces. It can provide the important information, more quickly and in the correct format to the friendly units. And it can achieve the information superiority through SA(Situational Awareness). Most of the advanced countries have been developed and already applied these systems in military operations. Therefore, ROK forces also have been developing C4I systems such as KJCCS(Korea Joint Command Control System). And, ours are increasing the budgets in the establishment of warfare information systems. However, it is difficult to evaluate the C4I effectiveness properly by deficiency of methods. We need to develop a new combat effectiveness evaluation method that is suitable for NCW. Existing evaluation methods lay disproportionate emphasis on technical factors with leaving something to be desired in human factors. Therefore, it is necessary to consider technical and human factors to evaluate combat effectiveness. In this study, we proposed a new Combat Effectiveness evaluation algorithm called E-TechMan(A Combat Effectiveness Evaluation Algorithm Considering Technical and Human Factors in C4I System). This algorithm uses the rule of Newton's second law($F=(m{\Delta}{\upsilon})/{\Delta}t{\Rightarrow}\frac{V{\upsilon}I}{T}{\times}C$). Five factors considered in combat effectiveness evaluation are network power(M), movement velocity(v), information accuracy(I), command and control time(T) and collaboration level(C). Previous researches did not consider the value of the node and arc in evaluating the network power after the C4I system has been established. In addition, collaboration level which could be a major factor in combat effectiveness was not considered. E-TechMan algorithm is applied to JFOS-K(Joint Fire Operating System-Korea) system that can connect KJCCS of Korea armed forces with JADOCS(Joint Automated Deep Operations Coordination System) of U.S. armed forces and achieve sensor to shooter system in real time in JCS(Joint Chiefs of Staff) level. We compared the result of evaluation of Combat Effectiveness by E-TechMan with those by other algorithms(e.g., C2 Theory, Newton's second Law). We can evaluate combat effectiveness more effectively and substantially by E-TechMan algorithm. This study is meaningful because we improved the description level of reality in calculation of combat effectiveness in C4I system. Part 2 will describe the changes of war paradigm and the previous combat effectiveness evaluation methods such as C2 theory while Part 3 will explain E-TechMan algorithm specifically. Part 4 will present the application to JFOS-K and analyze the result with other algorithms. Part 5 is the conclusions provided in the final part.

That is, we describes the experimental results and control methods of system over the world wide web. The remote control of the system is controlled by accessing a simple form of interface that is connected to the server. For this application, a remote operator should have a general-purpose computer with Internet connection and a WWW browser to remotely operate the line-tracer through the Internet. As a remote operator summits an input by operating html files in the server, the program written in java is operated the equipment is being connected to the serial port. By being transmitted to the line-tracer through the infra-red sensor, the remote controlled signal is operated in distance. As a tool in order to identify the system's operation of the over the web is used the line-tracer.

  • The amount of smart phones has increased exponentially. Due to the periodic release of high-performance smart phones and upgraded operating system, new smart phones become out-dated over 1 or 2 years. In order to solve environmental constraints of these smart phones, virtualization technology using Thin-Client terminal has been developed. However, in the case of Virtual Machine(VM), the applications associated with sensors and a GPS device can not run because they are not included. In this paper, by implementing the device driver for Android running in a virtual machine in the x86-based systems, it is to provide Android virtualization capabilities such as using the latest smart phones in the virtual machine environment. It would like to propose a method that the virtual device driver receives sensors and GPS information from the old Android smart phones(Thin-Client) that actually work and run as if the real device exists.

  • In this paper, we address a power-aware scheduling algorithm for a mixed real-time system which consists of periodic and sporadic tasks, each of which is characterized by its minimum period, worst-case execution requirement and deadline. We propose a dynamic voltage scaling algorithm called DVSMT(DVS for mixed tasks), which dynamically scales down the supplying voltage(and thus the frequency) using on-line distribution of the borrowed resources when jobs complete while still meeting their deadlines. With this scheme, we could reduce more energy consumption. As the proposed algorithm can be easily incorporated with RTOS(Real-Time Operating System), it is applicable for handhold devices and sensor network nodes that use a limited battery power. Simulation results show that DVSMT saves up 60% more than the existing algorithms both in the periodic-task and mixed-task systems.
