  • An improved optimization algorithm for multi-objective and multi-level (MO/ML) optimum design of steel frames is proposed in this paper. In order to optimize the steel frames under seismic load, two main objective functions need to be considered for minimizing the structural weight and maximizing the strain energy. For the efficiency of the proposed method, well known multi-level optimization techniques using decomposition method that separately utilizes both system-level and element-level optimizations and an artificial constraint deletion technique are incorporated in the algorithm. And also dynamic analysis is executed to evaluate the implicit function of structural strain energy at each iteration step. To save the numerical efforts, an efficient reanalysis technique through sensitivity analysis of dynamic properties is unposed in the paper. The efficiency and robustness of the improved MOML algorithm, compared with a plain MOML algorithm, is successfully demonstrated in the numerical examples.

  • For the optimal design of electromagnetic device involving uncertainties in design variables, this paper proposes a new reliability-based optimal design algorithm for multiple constraints problems. Through optimizing the nominal objective function and maximizing the minimum reliability, a set of global optimal reliable solutions representing different reliability levels are obtained by the multi-objective particle swarm optimization algorithm. Applying the sensitivity-assisted Monte Carlo simulation method, the numerical efficiency of optimization procedure is guaranteed. The proposed reliability-based algorithm supplying multi-reliable solutions is investigated through applications to analytic examples and the optimal design of two electromagnetic problems.

  • In the reliability-based design optimization of electromagnetic devices, the accurate and efficient reliability assessment method is very essential. The first-order sensitivity-assisted Monte Carlo Simulation is proposed in the former research. In order to improve its accuracy for wide application, in this paper, the second-order sensitivity analysis is presented by using the hybrid direct differentiation-adjoint variable method incorporated with the finite element method. By combining the second-order sensitivity with the Monte Carlo Simulation method, the second-order sensitivity-assisted Monte Carlo Simulation algorithm is proposed to implement reliability calculation. Through application to one superconductor magnetic energy storage system, its accuracy is validated by comparing calculation results with other methods.

제한된 모드형상을 이용한 개선된 손상평가 알고리즘 (Improved Damage Assessment Algorithm Using Limited Mode Shapes)

  • 본 논문은 교량 구조물의 손상위치 및 손상정도를 평가하기 위해 제한된 모드형상을 사용한 손상지수 방법에 기초한 실용적이며 개선된 손상평가 알고리즘을 제안한다. 손상평가 알고리즘에서 손상전 ·후의 구조물로부터 획득한 모드 벡터의 민감도 비에 근거한 손상지수를 사용하여 손상위치의 파악 및 손상정도를 평가한다. 그러나 모드형상의 진폭이 거의 영의 값을 가지는 요소에 손상이 존재하면 모드벡터 민감도 비는 무한대의 값을 가지게 되며, 이는 손상평가를 불가능하게 한다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 구조물의 모드형상과 비례하는 민감도 필터를 도입한 개선된 기법을 적용함으로써, 이러한 문제점을 극복하였으며 또한 기존의 방법보다 손상위치와 손상정도 평가에 있어 상당한 정확도의 향상을 구현하였다. 제안된 알고리즘을 검증하기 위해 단순보와 2경간 연속보에 대해 손상평가를 수행하였으며, 기존의 방법에 의한 결과와 비교하였다.

  • Short-term load forecasting(STLF) for electric power demand is essential for stable power system operation and efficient power market operation. We improved STLF method by using hourly temperature as an input data. In order to using hourly temperature to STLF algorithm, we calculated temperature-electric power demand sensitivity through past actual data and combined this sensitivity to exponential smoothing method which is one of the STLF method. The proposed method is verified by case study for a week. The result of case study shows that the average percentage errors of the proposed load forecasting method are improved comparing with errors of the previous methods.

  • This paper presents a 3D shape optimization algorithm for electromagnetic devices using the design sensitivity analysis with finite element method. The structural deformation analysis based on the deformation theory of the elastic body under stress is used for mesh renewing. The design sensitivity and adjoint variable formulae are derived for the 3D nonlinear finite element method with edge element. The proposed algorithm is applied to the shape optimization of 3D electromagnet to get a uniform flux density at the air gap.

  • This study deals with the active vibration control system for an all-clamped rectangular plate with piezoceramic actuators and sensors. A line nonent algorithm (LMA) with the distributed modal sensitivity(DMS) is proposed to reduce the structural vibrations effectively and to select the optimal locations and the optimal directions (skewed angles) of uniform piezoelectric actuators or sensors. Experimental results show that eachmode can attenuated byabout 10 .approx. 13 dB in case a piezoelectric actuator generate the psuedo-random disturbances that excite the plate modes.

Optimal Shape Design of Magnetic Actuators for Magnetic and Dynamic Characteristic Improvement

  • This study introduces a new topology optimization scheme combing the genetic algorithm (GA) with the on/off sensitivity method for the magnetic actuator core and the armature design. The design process intended to maximize the first eigen-frequency of the armature part and the magnetic actuating force acting on the armature simultaneously. GA based optimal design was carried out to obtain the initial structure and the modified on/off sensitivity method was succeeded to accelerate the design process. Final results show tens of percent improvement in actuating force as well as the first eigen-frequency of the armature.

  • In order to evaluate the relative significance of tolerance management of various elements in a VHS VTR tape transport system, the effect of geometric variations of the elements from standard design values on the tape traveling path is studied. The tape is modeled as a string and each element in the tape transport system is modeled as a cylinder whose radius, position vector and orientation vector are specified. An numerical algorithm is proposed to find the coordinates of tape entry points and tape exit points for the elements from which the tape traveling path can be completely described. By using the suggested algorithm, an error sensitivity analysis of tape traveling path due to the geometric variations of tape transport elements is performed for a particular model in the market and the elements demanding relatively strict tolerance management are identified.

Promoter classification using genetic algorithm controlled generalized regression neural network

  • A new method is presented to construct a classifier. This was accomplished by combining a generalized regression neural network (GRNN) and a genetic algorithm (GA). The classifier constructed in this way is referred to as a GA-GRNN. The GA played a role of controlling training factors simultaneously. In GA optimization, neuron spreads were represented in a chromosome. The proposed optimization method was applied to a data set, consisted of 4 different promoter sequences. The training and test data were composed of 115 and 58 sequence patterns, respectively. The range of neuron spreads was experimentally varied from 0.4 to 1.4 with an increment of 0.1. The GA-GRNN was compared to a conventional GRNN. The classifier performance was investigated in terms of the classification sensitivity and prediction accuracy. The GA-GRNN significantly improved the total classification sensitivity compared to the conventional GRNN. Also, the GA-GRNN demonstrated an improvement of about 10.1% in the total prediction accuracy. As a result, the proposed GA-GRNN illustrated improved classification sensitivity and prediction accuracy over the conventional GRNN.
