  • Two major cellulase components purified with sephadex G-75 and DEAE sepharose were applied to bleached kraft pulp to inverstigate the change of fiber properties. Cellulose viscosity was very sensitive to $C_x$ component treatment (more than 15% drop was observed) while being little influenced by $C_1$, component (only 2% drop). Fiber fraction longer than 2mm was reduced by $C_x$ treatment while short fiber fraction was increased greatly by more than 15%. There was little change in fiber length distribution by combined treatment of $C_1$ 1 and $C_x$ at equal. In this case, fine contents increased by more than 2.5% at equivalent refining time. WRV and Density were increased as the amount of $C_1$ or $C_x$ treatment was increased. $C_{x}$ was main cause for increasing them. But the effect fell as enzyme dosage.

  • As the developing of industry, the nonlinear equipments as inverter, converter, SMPS(Switching Mode Power Supply) and motor have been increased. But the sensitive electronic loads to the power quality, such as computers and other electronic equipments, have been spreaded out very fast. Thus, the power quality(PQ) problems and the real time power quality monitering(PQM) are one of the important issues in industry and building area for the intelligent control of the systems. One of them, PQM using PLC(Power Line Communication) have good merits that can send and receive the PQ information without any new network line. This paper presents the PQM hardware and software to monitor the PQ information by using PLC that meets the categories of IEEE Std. 1159.

  • The Annals of beeswax applied-Joseon Dynasty have some serious damages such as cracks, brown, red or black spots, and discolorations by chemical and biological degradation, but others without any beeswax application have still been keeping good quality during over several hundred years. It would be convinced that the beeswax applied in the Annals resulted in these deteriorations. Therefore, in order to focus on the aging mechanism and conservation techniques for the beeswax-applied Annals of Joseon Dynasty, the beeswax applying and dewaxing techniques of Hanji were tried by auto bar coater with a hot plate, and by heat-pressure sensitive extracting treatments. The ageing behaviors of beeswaxed Hanji and dewaxed Hanji were investigated by measuring the changes of physical, optical, morphological, and chemical properties, through accelerated ageing treatment in dry oven at $150^{\circ}C$ during 48 hours. Consequently, the ageing actions of beeswaxed Hanji were even faster than that of Hanji. The optimum dewaxed amounts from beeswaxed Hanji was also obtained in pressure of $40\;kg_f$ under heating conditions.

  • In this treatise, a survey was conducted on American female consumers to confirm the possibility of segmenting the American cosmetic industry by classifying lifestyles and analysing differences in consumer behavior, and also to provide global marketing strategy for entry into the American cosmetics industry by Korean companies. The results of the analysis provided three categories of American female consumer lifestyles. The first is the "practical conservative" type(58 people) who are fairly indifferent to or uninterested in external changes. The second is the "pro-active sensitive" type(48 people) who are interested in external changes and want to live a leading life. The last is the "neutral economical" type(54 people) who resemble characteristics that are in between the previous two types. The study has showed there was a difference in consumer motivation, considerations during selection, factors associated with shop choice according to consumer classification. It provides evidence that lifestyles can be a criteria in segmenting the American cosmetics market.

  • A novel transmission electron microscopy technique for the visualization of polymers adsorbed on secondary fines has been developed. This technique has been utilized in observing the adsorption behavior of various wet-end additives. The technique is sensitive enough not only to allow differentiation between linear and branched polymers, but also to observe differences in the adsorption behavior and conformational characteristics of particular polymeric derivatives. Conformational changes of a cationic polyacrylamide (CPAM) were examined in response to variations in wet-end conditions, such as mixing time and system conductivity. The molecular conformations of cationic starch and cationic guar gum were also examined by this technique. The technique has been employed to observe the effects of silica microparticles on the conformational characteristics of CPAM (drainage/retention aid) pre-adsorbed on secondary fines. The transmission electron microscopy method is a viable tool for investigating the macromolecular events that make up a large part of wet end chemistry in papermaking.

  • In order to rapidly identify and differentiate Salmonella typhimurium from the intestinal gram-negative bacteria, randomly amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) fingerprinting of Salmonella typhimurium was carried out using random primers designated OPA-13 (5'-CAGCACCCAC-3'), OPB-10 (5'-CGTCTGGGAC-3'), OPB-18 (5'-CCACAGCAGT-3'), and OPJ-10 (5'-AAGCCCGAGG-3'), and its patterns compared with 6 representive intestinal, gram-negative bacterial strains, Vibrio parahaemolyticus, V. vulnificus, Enterobacter cloacae, Escherichia coli O157:H7, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Proteus sp., which are often found in foods. S. typhimurium had unique and distinct fingerprinting patterns. RAPD fingerprinting is thus concluded to be a rapid and sensitive method for the identification of S. typhimurium compared to conventional culturing procedures or immunoassays.

  • Shipping containers promote rapid development of the transport industry, and generate economic and social value. However, problems often occur due to imbalance in dynamics between exports and imports, container relocation, traffic congestion, and general shipping network designs. So, efficient and cost-effective cargo management has become crucial for the Jeju Island - Mokpo container route (JMCR) in South Korea. Dozens of recent studies reveal that collapsible or foldable containers, may become an innovative solution to problematic issues within the shipping industry. The major purpose of this study is to discuss conditions required for successful commercial application of foldable containers, based on a cost-benefit analysis precisely for the JMCR. Findings reveal usage of foldable containers can be cost-effective, if containers make a "FULL<->EMPTY" route. To the contrary, a "FULL<->FULL" route can drastically increase expenditure. However, economic analysis of actual figures for 2010-2015 indicate that benefits for Mokpo - Jeju direction are significant to cover losses on the Jeju - Mokpo line. Seasonal patterns and mixing percentages of foldable and standard containers on the route, may also produce cost-effective solutions. Sensitivity analysis reveals that benefits from using foldable containers, depend mostly on empty container shares in addition to various extra costs.

  • Formed fermentation inhibitors during acid saccharification leads to poor alcohol production based on lignocellulosic bio-alcohol production process. In this work, it is focused on the formation of fermentation inhibitors from xylan, which is influenced by reaction tempearature and time of acidic sacharifiaction of xylose and glucuronic acid. In second step of concentrated acid hydrolysis, part of xylose and glucuronic acid was converted to furfuraldehyde and formic acid by dehydration and rearrangement reactions. Furfural was form from xylose, which was highly sensitive to reaction temperature. Formic acid was come from both xylose and glucuronic acid, which supposed to main inhibitor in biobutanol fermentation. Reaction temperature of second hydrolysis was main variables to control the furfural and formic acid generation. Careful control of acid saccharification can reduce generation of harmful inhibitors, especially second step of concentrated sulfuric acid hydrolysis process.
