  • The purpose of this research was to analyze how the evaluation method affects the subjective hand evaluation of fabrics and to suggest the efficient evaluation method. Three methods such as the sense of sight & touch, the sense of touch, and the sense of sight were respectively used when judges estimated the hand of fabrics using questionnaire. The result obtained by the method of touch was same as that by the method of sight & touch. The time required for the evaluation by these two methods was statistically same. Consequently, the method of touch has no attraction compared to that of touch & sight. In case of using the method of sight, 8 properties among 10 showed the same results as in the method of sight & touch. The properties of [moogupda/kabyupda] and [shinchuksung-e-itda/ shinchuksung-e-upda] evaluated with the sense of sight were different from the results obtained by the other methods. These properties seem to be difficult to evaluate only by seeing the fabric on the table. For the precise evaluation, it is necessary to show dynamic movement of the fabric. The time required for the evaluation by the sense of sight was shorter than that by the other two methods.

  • Generally school algebra is to start with introducing variables and algebraic expressions, which have major cognitive obstacles to students in the transfer from arithmetic to algebra. But the recent studies in the teaching school algebra argue the algebraic thinking from an early algebraic point of view. We compare the Korean elementary mathematics textbooks with Americans from this perspective. First, we discuss the history of school algebra in the school curriculum. And Second, we investigate the recent studies in relation to early algebra. We clarify the goals of this study(the importance of early algebra in the elementary school) through these discussions. Next we examine closely the number sense in the arithmetic and the symbol sense in the algebra. And we conclude that the operation sense can connect these senses within early algebra using the algebraic thinking. Finally, we compare the elementary mathematics books between Korean and American according to the components of the operation sense. In this comparative study, we identify a possibility of teaching algebraic thinking in the elementary mathematics and early algebra can be introduced to the elementary mathematics textbooks from aspects of the operation sense.

  • This study investigated the influence of perceived parenting style on the sense of community of middle-class adolescents and if adolescent' life satisfaction has a mediating effect on the relationship between perceived parenting style and sense of community. The study population consisted of a nationally representative sample of elementary and middle school students who completed the Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey of the National Youth Policy Institute in 2010. Among the 4,729 participants of the data, 2,876 were eligible for research focused on the middle class. Descriptive statistics included frequency, average, and standard deviation; in addition, reliability and stepwise regression results were reported using SPSS statistics. The results were as follows. First, the sense of community was 2.86 out of 4-point Likert scale. Monitoring (3.28) was the highest among the perceived parenting styles followed by affection (3.17), reasoning (3.01), over-expectation (2.57), over-interference, and inconsistency (2.40). Second, among subcategories of perceived parenting style, affection, reasoning, monitoring, and over-expectation had a statistically significant influence on sense of community. A higher perceived parenting style had a higher sense of community of middle-class children. Third, the life satisfaction of children had a statistically significant moderating effect on relationship between perceived parenting style and sense of community; therefore, the influence of perceived parenting style on sense of community could change according to life satisfaction.

  • Objective: The purpose of the present study was to examine the moderating role of childcare teachers' sense of humor in the relationship between their job stress and happiness Methods: Participants were 294 childcare teachers working at 83 childcare centers located in Busan and Gyeongnam. Teachers completed a rating scale in order to examine their demographic variables, job stress, sense of humor, and happiness. The collected data were analyzed using product-moment correlation and hierarchical multiple regression. Results: Childcare teachers' job stress was negatively correlated with their happiness. And childcare teachers' sense of humor had a positive relationship with their happiness. Hierarchical regression analysis indicated that the interaction of childcare teachers' job stress and sense of humor predicted their happiness. Childcare teachers' job stress was significantly associated with their happiness among those who demonstrated the lowest level of sense of humor. Childcare teachers' job stress had no relationship with their happiness, especially for those with the highest level of sense of humor Conclusion/Implications: We suggested that having a sense of humor might be valuable for childcare teachers in order to buffer the link between their job stress and happiness.

  • This was a descriptive study clarifying the factors affecting family caregivers' sense of well-being. This study was conducted with 131 caregivers using structured self-reporting questionnaires and directly interviewing adult patients who had been under treatment in two general hospitals. The hospitals were located in M city from Aug. 10, 2000 until Sep. 2, 2000. The collected data were analyzed using SAS PC+ program, and the data were tested using descriptive statistics, t-tests, ANOVA, Pearson's Correlation Coefficient, and Stepwise Multiple Regression. The results of this study are as follows; 1) The variables affecting the caregivers' sense of burden were age (F=3.76, p=.0063), education level (F=4.67, p=.0015), monthly income (F=2.49, p=.0466), amount of assistance provided (F=4.19, p=.0037), and the relationship with patient before disease (F=9.49, p=.0001). 2) The variables affecting caregivers' sense of well-being were age (F=9.54, p=.0001), residing with patient (t=11.38, p=.0010), the period of caregiving (F=10.52, p= .0001), education level (F= 2.79, p=.0290), monthly income (F=3.04, p=.0196), and relationship with patient before disease (F= 10.51, p=.0001). Also, all of the variables which showed statistical significance. 3) In viewing the relationship between activities of daily living (ADL) and the senses of burden and well-being, a negative relation- ship between activities of daily living (ADL) and a sense of burden was found (r=-.640, p=.000). However, the relationship between activities of daily living (ADL) and a sense of well-being had a positive correlation (r= .232, p=.008). Also the relationship between the sense of burden and the sense of well-being was revealed to have a negative correlation (r=-.614, p=.000). 4) A sense of burden was the most important indicator to the well-being of the caregivers who took care of stroke patients (R2 =.36). In addition to this, living with the patient (45%), activities of daily living (51%), relationship with patient before disease (53%), and the family's monthly income accounted for 56% of the sense of well-being of the caregivers.

  • The purpose of this paper is to study the relationship between the sense of place attachment and citizen participation in urban park management. This case study focuses on the 'Shim-Teo' Children's Park in DongDaeMun-Gu in Seoul. This study used questionnaires. The data was collected from June 24 to 26, 2002 from a random sampling of visitors to the park who were over twenty years old. Final analysis utilized a total of 83 samples from the 91 respondents. This suey included Questions on Place attachment and the sense of the citizen participation. The results of this study can be summarized as follows; 1. For citizen participation in urban park management, it showed that the more respondents had a sense of the place attachment, the more they had a sense of responsibility for citizen participation in urban park management. The significant difference of the sense of the citizen participation between the two groups was their sense of place attachment. 2. For respondents reasons not to participate in park management, there was a tendency that the less respondents had a sense of place attachment, the more they answered that 'they have no idea how to participate in park management' and 'they have no time to participate in park management'. And the significant difference in the sense of citizen participation between the two groups was the place attachment. 3. It was shown that the respondents sense of citizen participation in urban park management was directly related to their sense of place attachment to the park. It was also shown that the reasons which dissuaded them from participating in urban park managements were other factors.

  • This paper presents a high-resolution capactive microaccelerometer using branched finger electrodes with high-amplitude sense voltage. From the fabricated microacceleromcter, the total noise is obtained as 9 $\mu\textrm{g}$/√Hz at the sense voltage of 16.5V, while the conventional microaccelerometers have shown the noire level of 25~800 $\mu\textrm{g}$/√Hz. We reduce the mechanical noise level of the microaccelerometer by increasing the proof-class based on deep RIE process of an SOI wafer. We reduce the electrical noise level by increasing the amplitude of AC sense voltage. The nonlinearity problem caused by the high-amplitude sense volage has been solved by a new electrode design of branched finger type, resulting in self force-balancing effects for the enhanced linearity and bandwidth. The fabricated microaccelerometer shows the electrical noise of 2.4 $\mu\textrm{g}$/√Hz at the sense voltage of 16.5V, which is an order of magnitude reduction of the electrical noise of 24.3 $\mu\textrm{g}$/√Hz measured at 0.9V. For the sense voltage higher than 2V, the electrical noise of the microaccelerometer is lower than the voltage-independent mechanical noise of 11 $\mu\textrm{g}$/√Hz. Total noise, composed of the electrical noise and the mechanical noire, has been measured as 9 $\mu\textrm{g}$/√Hz at the sense voltage of 16.5V, which is 31% of the total noise of 28.6 $\mu\textrm{g}$/√Hz at the sense voltage 0.9V. The self force-balancing effect in the blanched finger electrodes increases the stiffness of the microaccelerometer from 1.1N/m to 1.61N/m as the sense voltage increases from 0V to 17.8V, thereby generating additional stiffness at the rate of 0.0016$\pm$0.0008 N/m/V$^2$.

  • The central concept of the Salutogenic Model is sense of coherence, which is defined as a global orientation that expresses the extent to which one has a feeling of confidence that one's internal and external environments are comprehensible, manageable, and meaningful. Sense of coherence is proposed as a determinant of positive health consequences and successful coping. The purpose of this article is to review Antonovsky's Salutogenic Model, the concept of sense of coherence, and its central components and sources. For conceptual clarity, sense of coherence is compared and contrasted with the concept of hardiness. The empirical research findings are integrated to better understand sense of coherence and to enhance future implications for nursing research and practice.

  • The primary purpose of this study was to investigate how number sense performance of sixth graders was and what every character of five components of number sense possessed by sixth graders was. For the this purpose, Two kinds of studies were conducted : a descriptive study by pencil-and-paper tests(Basic Test, Number Sense Test) and a clinical study by interviews. The conclusions drawn from the results obtained in the this study were as follows : First, students were highly scored in Basic Test but not highly scored equally in Number Sense Test. Second, students hardly used the benchmarks and lacked consideration of the reasonableness about computation results. Interview results were that students' notion about the meaning, and the greater - than and less - than relations for fractions was weak and students tended to not use number sense but apply standard algorithm and compute numbers in the question without thinking.
