  • Purpose: The aim of the study was to investigate nursing students' awareness of nursing and future career according to school years and gender. Method: Data was collected using a self-report questionnaire from October to December, 2007. Participants were 279 second year and 250 fourth year nursing students from 6 universities located in Seoul, Gyeonggi-do, Chungcheong-do, Gangwon-do, Jeonla-do, and Gyeongsang-do. Result: 1) The senior showed higher scores in 'a job with plenty of spare time', and 'good possibilities to be promoted' than the sophomore. Otherwise the senior students showed lower score in 'possibilities for part-time working' than the sophomore. 2) The senior showed higher scores in 'cooperative relationship', 'physical health', and 'contribution to nursing' than the sophomore. But in 'nursing skill', the senior showed lower score than the sophomore. 3) There were significant differences in wanting department, wanting graduate school, and major obstacles for the longer working between the sophomore and senior. 4) Male students were lower academic performance than female. 5) There were significant differences 'a job with social reputation', and 'contribution to nursing' by gender. Conclusion: These results suggest it's important that nursing educators make nursing students improve their job professionalism and guide nursing students' future career in view of students' gender and school year.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the perception of role transition from a student nurse to a registered nurse among senior year nursing students and to examine factors affecting their role transition. Methods: A descriptive survey with convenience sampling was conducted in four nursing colleges in Seoul, South Korea. Data were collected using a self-administrated questionnaire. Four instruments including role transition, self-esteem, interpersonal relationships and anxiety during clinical practicum were used and the students'demographics were also collected. A multiple logistic regression was used to identify predictors for the role transition. Results: A total of 233 nursing students were surveyed and final analysis was conducted utilizing 226 participants. Mean point of perceived role transition (5 point scale) was $3.34{\pm}0.44$. In a multiple regression model, high self-esteem, good interpersonal relationships, low anxiety during clinical practicum, and high satisfaction in college life were significant predictors of a smooth transition (Adj. $R^2$=.32, F=22.28, p<.001). Conclusion: The findings suggest that role transition from a student nurse to a registered nurse is facilitated through the establishment of programs to improve self-esteem and interpersonal relationships and to reduce anxiety during clinical practicum.

The results of the study were as follows: 1. Those nursing students surveyed show that conformity (16.32) took the highest place and reconition (10.21) lowest in the general value orientation. In accordance with the Cordon's SIV, those of other woman college students indicate 14%ile-65%ile, respectively. 2. Changes in values by class indicate that freshman, sohpomore and senior students showed similar Pattern but junior students showed significantly lower than other classes. The difference should be considered on the basis of statistics (p <.05). Accordingly, the hypho-thesis 1 of this study has been supported. 3. Significant variation has been shown by each class in each factor such as support, conformity, independence and benevolence but no variation has been indicated in leadership and recognition. 4. There was difference in values between higher class (jounior and senior) students with clinical experience and starting class (freshman and sophomore) students without clinical experience. The study indicates the values of higher class. students is lower than that of starting class. students (P <.05). Therefor, the hyphothesis 2 of this study has been supported. 5. There was no significant difference in values between entering students and graduating students (p<.05), Thus, the hyphothesis 3 of this study has been rejected. The results of the finding of the study show that there is no positive influence in forming the values. for the students. Therefore, it is concluded that new strategy and special educational program should be established for formulation of the right values for the nursing college students.

  • Background: The aim of the study was to test the validity and reliability of the Perceived Future Decent Work Securement Scale for Turkish nursing students. Methods: A cross-sectional, methodological study design was used. The study was carried out at three nursing undergraduate programs in Turkey during the academic year of 2020-2021 with 336 senior nursing students. Language validity and content validity analyses were performed for the scale adaptation, followed by confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) for construct validity. The reliability of the scale was determined using the test-retest and Cronbach's alpha internal consistency coefficient. Results: The scale-content validity index score was 0.988. In CFA, all goodness-of-fit indices verified the acceptable fit of the model; its root mean square error of approximation was 0.076; the normed fit index was 0.909; the standardized mean square residual was 0.097; the relative fit index was 0.881; the goodness-of-fit index was 0.915; the adjusted goodness-of-fit index was 0.872 and χ2/df = 2.932. The overall reliability was α = 0.86. The item-total correlations of the scale were above the acceptable level, and the test-retest analysis had a high correlation. The access to healthcare (14.68, SD 3.53) obtained the highest average score, and the adequate compensation (8.52, SD 3.76) was the lowest rated by the senior nursing students. Conclusion: The Perceived Future Decent Work Securement Scale is a valid and reliable scale to assess nursing students' future decent work securement.
