환경의미 분석을 위한 기호학적 접근방법 연구 (A Study on the Method of Semiotic Approach on Environmental Meaning)

  • Architectual environment in this study means a language and meaning complex which makes communication between human beings and environment possible. The purpose of this study is to propose a semiotic approach to analyze and examine meaning, as a semiotic system, and its effects, focusing on the generative meaning in the relationship between human beings and environment. For this purpose, it examines the academic status of modern semiotics in postmodernism and the possibility of its being metalanguatge for a study of a variety of cultural phenomena and desigv. It also provides two viewpoints as propositions for its analysis: it explains the necessity of environmental-discoursive attitude and social-semiotic viewpoint which understands environment as social-cultural reflectors. Finally, it provides framework and all the interpretative procedures for analysis of environmental meanings on the basis of the approach of semiotics of space. By applying the methods proposed this study to the case studies, it also proves validity of this approach and the potentialities of the application of semiotics. This study emphasizes not only denotative configuration of the architectural environment but also its connotative meanings. It maintains that designers, architects, and theorists should realize correctly today's changed value system and social and aesthetic paradigms. It also stresses the necessity of development of the new architectural language and meaning system.

항구 가로경관의 기호학적 분석 - 영덕군 강구항을 중심으로 - (A Semiotic Study on Streetscape in Harbor - With A Special Reference to Gang-Gu Harbor of Young-Duk Gun -)

  • 본 연구는 문화현상을 기호의 체계로 설명할 수 있다는 기호론의 기본개념을 근거로 항구의 가로경관에 대한 특성을 밝히고자 한다. 항구경관의 인공적 요소들 중에서 가로경관을 구성하는 중요한 요소들을 문화현상을 전달하는 기호로 보았다. 기호학적 접근방식은 경관분석 과정에서 심리적 요인에 영향을 받기 때문에 경관의 물리적 특성을 이해하는데 주로 이용되었다. 연구대상지의 가로는 영덕군 강구항의 강구리와 오포리 가로이다. 가로의 간판 문자언어를 업종에 따라서는 17개의 업종으로, 의미론적으로는 13개의 의미로 분류하였다. 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 주된 업종으로는 음식업이 강구리가 56.3%, 오포리는 61.8%를 차지하고 있었다. 둘째로, 강구항 가로의 기호론적 의미는 주로 지역의 장소를 뜻하고, 사람들이 쉽게 부르고 기억하기 좋은 애칭을 뜻한다. 음식업종이 가장 많은 것은 이 지역 특산물인 영덕대게와 밀접한 관계가 있을 것으로 본다. 또한 지역의 이름은 영덕대게의 상징성으로부터 나온 것이며, 사람들의 애칭은 판매고를 높이는 것과 관련된 것으로 사료된다. 끝으로 기호학적 접근은 가로경관의 전부를 포괄할 수는 없지만, 항구도시의 가로경관의 골격을 이해할 수 있는 언어적 도구라는 점에서 매우 유용할 것으로 보인다.

판타지 영화 의상에 대한 기호학적 분석 - 슈퍼영웅의 파워 이미지를 중심으로 - (A Semiotic Analysis of Costumes in Fantasy Films - With a Focus on the Power Image of Super Heroes -)

  • As fantasy films in which super heroes with superhuman abilities play an active part are rapidly becoming more popular, super hero stories are taking root as a new genre in fantasy films. The costumes in films play an important role in visualizing the virtual reality of fantasy films when those costumes are worn by characters so as to express and define them. In the meantime, in the antagonistic structure of good versus evil as a typical subject in these films, it may be said that the costumes of super heroes who advocate good and those of villains who represent evil have been created as an image of power. In this sense, it is necessary to establish an analytic system of how images of the power of good and evil are visually created in costumes for fantasy films. As such, this study seeks to analyze costumes in fantasy films more systemically through semiotic, which has taken root as a science of analysis in all areas of science. From the perspectives of aesthetic semiotic developed by Morris and costume aesthetics, the syntactical dimension is analyzed into formative elements and the principles of costumes; factual and expressive meanings, themes, and inherent meaning, all of which are immanent in costumes, are elicited in the semantic dimension; and the influence of costumes on viewers is described as identification in terms of pragmatics. This study provided a system to analyze costumes in fantasy films(especially 'Superman', 'Batman' and 'Spiderman') from the perspective of Morris' semiotic, and based on the analytic system, examined how 'power' is revealed in the costumes of super heroes and ruffians, and what it implies.

'민족주의' 광고의 기호학적 분석 - 진 캐주얼브랜드 '잠뱅이'의 광고 연구 - (Semiotic Analysis of Jambangee's 'Nationalism'Advertisement)

  • Jambangee's advertisements in spring 1998 attracted public attention by the differentiating message of 'nationalism'. The purpose of this paper is to interpret Korean youth's culture of consumption, value, thought and culture expressed in these advertisements. The semiotic analytic method of F. Saussure and R. Barthe were used. Metaphor and metonymy as interpretive tools were used. Two levels of meaning, denotation and connotation were examined, and idelogies and mythologies were sought. Contrary to the most of jean advertisements which show youth, characteristic style, western life style and westernized beauty, refinement, materialism, and social differentiation, Jambangee's advertisement showed nationalism and patriotism. These advertisements criticized that preference of imported goods and ostentation of purchasing power brought crisis of economy and I.M.F. system. Jambangee's jeans symbolized as the meaning of nationalism and patriotism were suggested as a way to save our country. Jambangee's advertisements are meaningful. Because we had accepted western fashion passively so far, but for the first time Jambangee applied Korean design elements to jeans and gave new meanings to them through the 'nationalism'campaign.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the elements forming interior design and to examine dimensional relationship among the elements which form space through the comparison of the spatial language and semiotics of space for the component of interior design. In addition to that it indtends to derive the principle of design which dominate interior design and the inherent diversified meaning by comparing those elements with the square of semiotic used in semiotics. Through this comparsion the meaning of constituent forming space which can be observed through the comparsion of square of semiotic has redefined flexbility among relational system of elements and this flexible concept make the scope of environment including human being broad and enriched. This study fist of all analyzes various phenomena of social culture review semiotics meta-learning and examines back theoretical ground of semiotics which is needed for space analysis. Second of all in the area of presenting an analysis tool for meaningful analysis this report introduces the square of semiotics which was invented,. A. J. Greimas in order to analyze the meaning of literary work and defind three categories of the progressive research method for the analysis of interior design and research itself. 복식에 나타난 흑색과 백색의 의미 - 기호학적 분석을 중심으로 - (The Meanings of Black and White Represented by Dress - Focused on Semiotic Analysis -)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the signification system between color and clothes systematically in black and white clothes. For this purpose, after examining the images of black and white clothes, we selected 55 clothes that represented as black and white and analyzed their meanings and the sources using semiotic framework, based on the work of Saussure and Barthes. The results as follows: First, the meaning in black and white clothes was generated from original color image. White clothes of religious person like Virgin Mary, Angel expressed pure and sacred color image. And black clothes like funeral dress expressed grief and death. Next, the meaning of black and white clothes was regenerated into modern color image by new environment. After industrial revolution, black was considered as a traditional men's fashion color. With diverse leisure activities, white sports wear appeared as active and clean image. Finally the source of the meaning of the clothes was the designer or the wearer. A little black dress by Chanel who was interested in simplicity and function represents an ideal of simple and sexy object. The situation is complicated by the fact that these three kinds of explanation may be found singly or mixed together.

해외패션 명품브랜드 로고의 기호학적 분석 (A Study on the Semiotic Approach of Logo in Imported Fashion Luxury Brands)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the signification system between logo and brand image systematically in imported fashion luxury brands through semiotic approach. For this purpose, 29 luxury brands were selected from 3 department stores. According to the visual characters of logo, the types of logo used in the imported fashion luxury brands were classified into three types and the results of this study were following : First, the luxury brands used the brand logo in common that represent the name of founder or fashion designer to deliver the character of company's own brand and to emphasize the spirit of a craftsman. Second, the luxury brands also used the brand logo that design the brand initial in symmetry of the right and left or top and bottom to emphasize a unique spirit of the brand. Third, the luxury brands used the brand logo that represent or symbolize a specific animal or object to express the special quality of the brand in descriptive type. Forth, the luxury brands used the most frequently black color in brand logo that symbolize a perfection, immortality and solemnity, etc.

  • 기호학 이론은 현실주의 영화의 해석에 있어 매우 중요한 역할을 수행한다. 현실주의 영화는 현실 생활의 사건과 상황을 반영하는데 집중하며, 사실적인 묘사를 통해 관객에게 현실의 문제를 생각하도록 한다. 이 과정에서, 기호학 이론은 영화 속의 상징적인 요소와 그 배후에 함축되어 있는 깊은 의미를 해석할 수 있도록 유도한다. 본 연구는 리얼리즘 영화에 나타난 기호학적 특징을 소쉬르의 기의와 기표의 개념을 통해 접근하고, 특히 영화의 기호에 나타난 임의성과 2급 기호 체계(언어체계+신화 체계)가 영화의 기호적 함의와 영화의 문화적 의의에 작용하는 과정을 분석하고자 하였다. 그리고 <도가니>의 사례에서 적용되는 과정을 살펴봄으로써 영화 속의 함축적인 서사 구조, 의미 구조, 이데올로기가 사회를 반영하는 대중문화 속에서 드러내는 영향과 효과를 연구하고자 하였다. 연구를 통해 영화의 기호가 전달하고자 하는 잠재적 정보의 다채로운 가능성을 볼 수 있었으며, 기호학을 통해 창의적 견해와 해석을 가능성을 볼 수 있었다.

잡지광고에 나타난 아동복 의미분석 (A Semantic Analysis of Children's Clothing Advertisement in Magazines)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the symbolic meaning which is immanent in the children´s clothing advertisement text. For the purpose of this research, this study used the semiotic method which are in parallel. Namely, rearranged the R. Barthes´theory and S. Chapman's analysing frame in order to decode meaning which is immanent in the advertisement text, and 1 coded children's clothing advertisement according to the market fractionation cause (age. sex and brand image), and analysed the paradigmatic meaning and socio-cultural meaning- As a result, to carry on the effective children's clothing advertisements. the discriminate paradigmatic system which corresponds with the concept of company brand and the quality of the target consumer should be selected, and the purchaser volition considering desire of target consumer's self image and brand image should be made. Futhermore it should be the social-cultural product reflecting a phenomenon in the social-cultural actual condition. Therefore we must understand the social-cultural meaning in the children's clothing advertisement and then have to establish an advertisement strategy.

스포츠웨어 브랜드 로고의 기호학적 분석 (A Study on the Semiotic Approach of Logo in Sportswear Brand)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the signification system between logo and brand concept systematically in sportswear brands. For this purpose, 37 apparel brands focused on sportswear brand were selected and the results of the study were following : First, the sportswear brands that symbolize a specific sports used a related supplies such as a golf ball or tennis ball, etc to express sports or concept that pursuit each brand. Second, the sportswear brands used the brand logo that represent or symbolize a specific animal, plant and natural world to express a strong spirit of sports and active energy. Third, the sportswear brands used the word mark or symbol that design a brand name in dynamic or speedy typeface to represent a speed and progressive spirit of sports. Fourth, the sportswear brands used the symbols that represent a concrete object, person such as a mast, shield, etc to emphasize the brand concept. Fifth, the sportswear brands used the symbols of a graphic or geometric style to represent the special quality of brand in type.
