Background: Delayed presentation of symptomatic breast cancer is a public health issue in Iran, making a major contribution to low survival. Despite the importance of this problem, current knowledge is insufficient to inform interventions to shorten patient delay. The aim of this study was to explore factors influencing patient delay in Iranian women with self-discovered breast cancer symptom. Materials and Methods: This qualitative study was conducted during 2012-2013. Purposeful sampling was used to recruit 20 Iranian women with self-discovered symptoms of breast cancer who attended the Cancer Institute of Tehran University of Medical Sciences, Tehran, Iran. Data were collected through semi-structured in-depth audiotaped interviews, which were transcribed and analyzed using conventional content analysis with MAXqda software version 10. Findings: Content analysis of the data revealed four main themes related to the delay in seeking medical help including: 1) attributing symptoms to the benign conditions; 2) conditional health behavior; 3) inhibiting emotional expression; and 4) barriers to access to health care systems. Conclusions: These results suggest that patient delay is influenced by complex and multiple factors. Effective intervention to reduce patient delay for breast cancer should be developed by focusing on improvement of women's medical knowledge, managing patients' emotional expression and reform of the referral system.
The purpose of this study was to defined mothers perception of their infants when the babies were high - risk babies, and to describe the feelings and responses of the mothers following on the birth of high - risk babies and on their hospitalization. The subjects of the study were 30 mothers of high-risk infants at D and M Hospital of E University. Data were collected between August 1993 and June 1994. Using the Neonatal Perception Inventory(NPI ) devised by Broussard to determine the perception of mothers and an open-ended, semi-structured interview which was conducted in the nursery room within 24 to 72 hours after delivery And NPI tested 1 month after the babies were discharged from the NICU also. Data were analyzed using SAS and content analy-sis. The results of this study are as follows ; 1. The mothers tended to perceive their infants positively, regardless of the condition of the infant. Mothers who perceived their infant negatively were slightly increased at 1 month after the babies were discharged from the NICU, but the difference was not statistically significant. 2. Mothers reported that they thought that the newborn can see and hear well, and also they can ex-press themselves. 3. There were many types of response noted such as anxiety, fear, helplessness, pity, resentment, guilt, resignation, hope, relief, appreciation, and feelings of being able to overcome the situation. These were differentiated into positive and negative responses. The finding of positive responses being expressed by mother of high -risk infants while their infants were in NICU was a unique finding especially, appreciation and feelings of being able overcome the situation. The results suggest the need for replication studies and for research on nursing interventions directed at improving the quality of life of high-risk infants and their mother.

The purpose of this study was to analyze the teaching strategies used in the teaching practice of teachers charged with science-gifted middle school students. For this study, 4 teachers belonging to a professional gifted education institute were selected. Data for the study were classroom observations, semi-structured interviews, report of students, and photographs. The data were analyzed through the constant comparison method. As results show, the four teachers used different teaching strategies, and the teaching strategies had a close connection with each other. According to the learning types they chose themselves - acceleration or deepening - they used different teaching strategies. The 4 teachers' teaching practice were clearly different in teaching strategies, classroom atmosphere, interaction style between teacher-student and student-student, and report draw-up style. The teaching strategies identified in this study may be helpful to the teachers short in teaching experience in organizing their lessons and promoting their specialty in teaching for science-gifted students.
Objectives: The aim of this study was to analyze consumer experience with Digestive Enzymes, a digestive enzyme product that includes medicinal herbs (Multi-Zyme®). The goal was to provide basic data on improvements and marketability of future digestive enzyme products containing medicinal herbs. Methods: Qualitative research was conducted to explore the current participants' experience. In-depth interviews with a semi-structured interview guide were conducted to investigate the experience and perception of the participants. The participants were recruited using snowball sampling and purposive sampling, and a qualitative content analysis method was adopted. Credibility was ensured by adopting a member check, triangulation, and peer debriefing method. Results: In-depth interviews were completed with a total of 8 participants. The collected data were classified into 16 codes and then further divided into the following seven categories: direct buying, indirect buying, effects, questions, recommendations, positive perception, and negative perception. The categories were grouped into three themes: 'Experience of purchasing existing health foods', 'Experience of taking Multi-Zyme', and 'Opinions on selling Multi-Zyme at Korean medicine clinics'. Conclusion: The participants experienced effect of the Multi-Zyme® and were willing to recommend it around. However, the Korean medicine doctors need to inform consumers about the dose and duration when taking Multi-Zyme® to prevent abuse. Some consumers may trust Multi-Zyme® sales from Korean medicine clinics, but some held opinions that those sales were not trustworthy, so promotion and improvement are needed.
Purpose: This study was conducted to analyze occupational and leisure-time physical activity(LTPA) in male office workers and to examine factors related to LTPA. Method: The subjects for this study were 226 male office workers, from eight work places located in Seoul, who had no physical restrictions. Minnesota LPTA Questionnaire (Taylor et al., 1978) revised by Kim(1997) was used to measure LTPA and revised Tecumseh Occupational Physical Activity Questionnaire (Motoye, 1971) was used to measure occupational physical activity. The data were collected from May 4 to May 19, 2001 using a semi-structured questionnaire with interviews and self reports. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS Windows 10.0 Program. Results: The results of this study are summarized as follows. 1. The mean level of physical activity was 8,716.9kcal/wk. The occupational physical activity was at 6,605kcal/wk(75.8%) and the level of LTPA was 2,111.4kcal/wk (24.2%). 2. Using 2,000kcal/wk as a base for categorizing LTPA as active or inactive, it was found that there were 94 subjects(41.6%) in the active group. 3. Subjects in their thirties had a lower level of LTPA than subjects in other age groups (F=3.484, p<.05). Physical activity, self-efficacy (r=.405, p=.000) and perceived health status (r=.301, p=.000) were positively related to LTPA. 4. Participants in club activities had a higher level of LTPA than those who did not (t=-2.369, p=.020). Support for physical activity(r=.164, p=0.13) was positively related to LTPA. Conclusion: This study suggested that to increase physical activity in male office workers, physical activity promotion programs should be established according to age and sex especially for those who are in their thirties and for women, and should include strategies strengthening support through peer groups and family, developing club activities and increasing physical activity self-efficacy.

The purpose of this study was to examine 'orientations toward teaching science (OTS)' of science teachers and to analyze the factors affecting OTS found in middle school science classes. For this purpose, we selected three female teachers as participants named Kim, Ryu, and Park who had various teaching experiences. Semi-structured interviews and classroom observations were gathered for data. After analysis of the characteristics of the teachers' orientations toward teaching science from the data, the factors affecting the orientation were investigated. As results, three types of orientation toward science teaching were observed: inquiry, activity driven, and didactic. These types of orientation toward science teaching were affected by internal factors rather than external factors. The internal factors found out were experience as a student, understanding of the nature of science, curiosity, and reflective thinking.
As the Internet is growing, the use of XML which is a standard of semi-structured document is increasing. Therefore, there are on going works about integration and retrieval of XML documents. However, the basis of efficient integration and retrieval of documents is to cluster XML documents with similar structure. The conventional XML clustering approaches use the hierarchical clustering algorithm that produces the demanded number of clusters through repeated merge, but it have some problems that it is difficult to compute the similarity between XML documents and it costs much time to compare similarity repeatedly. In order to address this problem, we use clustering algorithm for transactional data that is scale for large size of data. In this paper we use common structures from XML documents that don't have DTD or schema. In order to use common structures of XML document, we extract representative structures by decomposing the structure from a tree model expressing the XML document, and we perform clustering with the extracted structure. Besides, we show efficiency of proposed method by comparing and analyzing with the previous method.
Background: The purpose of this study is to elucidate the context of medical experience and the perception of unmet healthcare of elderly people with chronic diseases based on in-depth interview data. Methods: We carried out in-depth interviews with 10 elderly people with chronic diseases using semi-structured questionnaires based on literature review. The in-depth interview data were analyzed using thematic analysis; one qualitative research methodology, three core meaning categories, and four attributes associated with unmet healthcare were ultimately derived. Results: The context of the medical experience were based on the following three categories: (1) discomfort due to diseases and high medical needs, (2) the poor community medical environment and difficulties in accessing to metropolitan medical institutions, and (3) inconvenience caused by long waiting time and side effects of medicine. In addition, the elderly with chronic disease realized the unmet healthcare as (1) the availability related to the desired medical institutions at the right time, (2) the affordability related to their economic capacity, (3) the effectiveness of the medical services they experienced, and (4) the appropriateness related to receiving medical services in a pleasant environment. Conclusion: The perception of unmet healthcare among the elderly with chronic disease is the result of interaction of multi-level and multi-dimensional factors related with their medical experience.
Purpose: The world saw a shift into a new society consequent to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), which made home quarantine mandatory for a person in close contact with those who tested positive. For children, however, home quarantine was not limited only to themselves but parents, especially mothers were involved and required to quarantine. This qualitative study aims to explore and understand mothers' experience and their related psychosocial issues while caring for their school-aged children in Korea, who had to home quarantine after coming in close contact with COVID-19 positive individuals. Methods: Data were collected from October 2020 to January 2021 via in-depth, semi-structured interviews with nine mothers of children who had to home quarantine. Interviews were conducted face-to-face in an independent space near the participant's home or workplace (n=5) or via online platforms or telephone (n=4). The data were analyzed using thematic analysis through several iterative team meetings. Results: Thematic analysis revealed the following four themes: "Unable to be relieved due to uncertain situations surrounding me," "Blame and hurt toward me, others, and one another," "Pulling myself together for my children in my broken daily life," and "Changes in the meaning of life amid COVID-19." Conclusion: The narratives show that mothers experienced psychosocial difficulties while caring for their children during home quarantine. It is necessary to reduce the social stigma toward individuals in home quarantine and establish policies to ensure work-family compatibility for such mothers.
This study sought to determine whether there were mediating effects on both mental health and sleep problems as induced by COVID-19 fears and its effects on preventive practices. The participants were 310 adults living in the Seoul/Gyeonggi Province. For data collection, an online survey was conducted using a semi-structured questionnaire. The collected data were analyzed using PROCESS Macro (Model 6) to validate the dual mediating effects. This study analyzed the direct effects of COVID-19 fears on the mental health problems, sleep problems and preventive practices. Both mental health and sleep problems had dual mediating effects in the influence of COVID-19 fears on preventive practices. Preventive practice has shown that the mediated effects of mental health problems play a strong role in instances when COVID-19 fears increase.
