A Speed Control of Stepping Motor Using a Self-Tuning Regulator

  • In this paper, a self-tuning regulator for a speed control of a permanent magnet type stepping motor is proposed. The self-tuning theory provides a nonlinear modeling of a stepping motor drive system and can provide the controller with information regarding the reference variation and parameter variation of the stepping motor through the on-line estimation. The proposed self-tuning regulator organize the positive feedback loop and IP(Integral-Proportional) type. Therefore, the proposed self-tuning regulator has a robust control capabilities during dynamic operation. The availability of the proposed controller is verified through experimental results.

  • In this paper a new indirect robust self-tuning regulator is proposed including an inverse system of a plant and a robust compensator such that it achieves the desired frequency shape specified by solving the mixed H$\infty$ sensitivity problem within a prescribed tolerance in the H$\infty$ norm. Consequently, in the proposed self-tuning regulator, robust stability is guaranteed in spite of the identification error.

  • In the single-input and single-output system, the parameter of plant is scalar polynomial, but in the multiple input and multiple output, it accompanies, being matrix polynomial, the consideration of observable controlability index or problems non-commutation in matrix polynomial as well as degree, and it is more complex to deal with. Therefore, it is thought that a full research on the single-input and single-output system is not sufficient. This paper proposes that problems of minimum variance self-tuning regulator by using numerical calculation example of multivariable system and pole assignment self-tuning regulator.

  • A nonlinear self-tuning regulator for a neutralization process of a weak acid and strong base system is proposed. Rearranging the state equation of the process model, we first obtain equations which are linear for a manipulated variable or unknown parameters. Then to these equations we apply the standard procedure used in designing linear self-tuning regulators. Simulation results show that the regulator provides very good performances for various realistic situations and traces variations of the unknown parameters. Since computations are simple and additional measurements except the effluent pH value are only flow rates of influent streams, it can be easily applied to real processes such as a waste water treatment process.

  • The purpose of this paper is to study the tension control in a web transport system. Direct self-tuning regulator method was applied to tension controller and variable-gain PID control algorithm was applied to web speed controller. The designed controllers compensated for the time-varying parameters and tracked reference tension in process speed changing. The simulation shows that direct STR tension controller improves tension control performance in comparison with other controllers.

  • This paper presents a self-tuning controller for pressurized water reactor (P.W.R.). This self-tuning controller includes two substantial steps, such as parameter identification and control-law building in each cycle. Extended least square algorithm is used for parameter identification, Kalman filter is used for state estimation, and discrete Riccati equation is used for optimal control. Effectiveness of this algorithm is shown through computer simulation and sensitivity analysis.

  • In this paper a self-tuning control algorithm has been utilized to control speed of a rolling mill DC drive system. Inner current control loop is composed of predictive current controller and the outer speed control loop is composed of the self-tuning PI or IP controller. Computer simulation results reveal that the adaptive control algorithm using self-tuning control is capable of following the typical set point variations required for a rolling mill in conjunction with load torque variations on the shaft of the drive.

  • This paper develops a pole-zero assignment self-tuning regulator utilizing the method of a neural network in the plant parameter estimation. An approach to parameter estimation of the plant with a Hopfield neural network model is proposed, and the control characteristics of the plant are evaluated by means of a simulation for a second-order linear time invariant plant. The results obtained with those of Exponentially Weighted Recursive Least Squares(EWRLS) method are also shown.

  • 시스템을 입력과 출력값 만으로 제어하고자 할 경우에는, 플랜트의 파라메타를 추정하면서 제어해 나가야 할 것이다. 이러한 경우에는, 귀환제어나 최적제어 형태로는 여러가지 문제점이 발견되어서, 최근에 적응제어가 많이 연구되고 있다. 이에는 Gain-Scheduling 방법, Self-tuning regulator 방법 및 model reference adaptive control 방법이 있다. Gain-Scheduling 방법은 미지의 파라메타가 plant에 있을지라도, 이를 즉시 예측할 수 있을 경우 보조변수 추정을 통하여 이득을 조절하여 시스템을 안정시키는 것이고, self tuning regulator는 보조변수를 직접 조정하여 시스템을 제어한다. 또 model reference adaptive control 방법은 기준모델을 정하여, 이에 따라 관측기 등을 통하여, 플랜트의 파라메타를 추정 제어해 나가는 것이다. 이때 기준 모델의 출력과 플랜트 출력사이의 오차를 어떻게 할 것인가? 추정되는 파라메타와 오차와의 대수관계 및 차수 등, 그 한계 해석이 최근의 MRAC 설계연구에 큰 과제가 되어 왔다. 이에 본 연구에서는 신호합성 및 해석에 뛰어난 기능이 있는 Walsh 함수를 이용하여, 간단한 Micro computer의 도움으로, 오차 함수를 합성하고, 미지의 파라메타를 추정하여, 시스템의 adaptive filter설계에의 가능성에 대하여 연구하고자 한다. 또 이를 실제 예를 들어 고찰하였다.
