Development of kW Class SOFC Systems for Combined Heat and Power Units at KEPRI

  • The Korea Electric Power Research Institute (KEPRI) has been developing planar solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs) and power systems for combined heat and power (CHP) units. The R&D work includes solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) materials investigation, design and fabrication of single cells and stacks, and kW class SOFC CHP system development. Anode supported cells composed of Ni-YSZ/FL/YSZ/LSCF were enlarged up to $15{\times}15\;cm^2$ and stacks were manufactured using $10{\times}10\;cm^2$ cells and metallic interconnects such as ferritic stainless steel. The first-generation system had a 37-cell stack and an autothermal reformer for use with city gas. The system showed maximum stack power of about $1.3\;kW_{e,DC}$ and was able to recover heat of $0.57{\sim}1.2\;kW_{th}$ depending on loaded current by making hot water. The second-generation system was composed of an improved 48-cell stack and a prereformer (or steam reformer). The thermal management subsystem design including heat exchangers and insulators was also improved. The second-generation system was successfully operated without any external heat source. Under self-sustainable operation conditions, the stack power was about $1.3\;kW_{e,DC}$ with hydrogen and $1.2\;kW_{e,DC}$ with city. The system also recuperated heat of about $1.1\;kW_{th}$ by making hot water. Recently KEPRI manufactured a 2kW class SOFC stack and a system by scaling up the second-generation 1kW system and will develop a 5kW class CHP system by 2010.

베트남 MZ세대의 다차원적 소비가치에 대한 연구 -소비가치 요인과 인구통계학적 특성 및 글로벌 소비성향의 관련성을 중심으로- (A Study on the Multidimensional Consumption Value of Vietnamese MZ Generation -Focusing on the Relationship between Consumption Value Factors, Demographic Characteristics, and Global Consumption Propensity-)

  • As an emerging market with rapid economic growth, while being a key region of the K-culture expansion, Vietnam draws increasing scientific attention. This study focuses on the MZ generation, Vietnam's leading consumer group, revealing their consumption value structure. An online survey was used for data collection purposes, investigating 368 Vietnamese consumers between 18-37 years of age. Six value dimensions were derived as results of the present analysis: functional, emotional, social, ethical, self-expression, and autonomy-oriented value. Among them, functional value includes two sub-dimensions of utility and price, while emotional value entails three sub-dimensions, namely hedonism, novelty, and aesthetics. 'Self-expression value' and 'autonomy-oriented value', reflecting the characteristics of the MZ generation, who actively express themselves and respect proactive decision-making, are becoming important standards of the consumption attitude of young Vietnamese. Moreover, the pursuit of 'novelty' was derived as a factor reflecting emotional values, revealing an association between hedonic consumption, and seeking for newness and difference. Furthermore, the relationships between each consumption value dimension, respective demographic characteristics, and global consumption propensity were investigated. The present findings aim to provide insights into young Vietnamese consumers' attitudes and intend to serve as a foundation for future research.

해수를 이용한 화력발전소 폐열회수 히트펌프 시스템 (Heat Pump System Using Heated Effluent of Thermal Power Generation Plant as a Heat Source)

  • In South Korea the gross generation and heated effluent of power generation plant was 259 TWh and 4.73 billion tons in 2008. And then the waste heat from power generation was 388 TWh. It shows that the efficiency of thermal power generation plant is about 40%. Therefore to reduce $CO_2$ emission from thermal power generation plant, the energy of this heated effluent must be reused to heat buildings or farm facilities. In South Korea horticultural facilities of about 25% are heated in winter season. Total area of greenhouses which are heated is about 13,000 ha. Total heat amount needed to warm greenhouse of 13,000 ha in winter season is only 3.4% of total waste heat from power generation plant. In this study a heat pump system was designed to reuse the waste heat from power generation. Especially new heat exchanger was developed to recover the thermal energy from waste water and this model considered anti-corrosion against sea water and low cost for economic feasibility. This heat recovery system was installed in mango growing greenhouse around thermal power generation plant in Seogwipo-city, Jeju Special Self-Governing Province. The result of preliminary test shows that the heating cost of about 90% is saved as compared to boiler using tax free light oil as a fuel.

MZ세대의 라이프스타일 특성에 대한 탐색적 연구 - 2010년-2020년의 논문을 중심으로 - (An Exploratory Study on the Lifestyle Characteristics of the MZ Generation - A Focus on the 2010-2020 Studies -)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the trends of MZ generation's lifestyle-related research from 2010 to 2020. As a result of searching keywords such as MZ generation's and lifestyle using academic database search sites, a total of 218 cases were used as analysis data to conduct frequency and content analysis. First, research type was 74 dissertations(34.6%), 144 journals(65.4%). The study of MZ generation was relatively active in journals. Second, the current status of academic field was 85(39.7%) in the social field, followed by 66(30.8%) in the arts/physical education, 21(9.8%) in the complex studies, 16(7.5%) in education, 15(7.0%) in nature, 6(2.8%) in engineering, 4(1.9%) in humanities, 1(0.5%) in agriculture/marine. Third, the current status of MZ generation research topics is 54 social participations(25.3%), 35 fashion/beauty(16.3%), 31 social/organizational adaptations(14.5%), 25 cultural/leisure activities(11.7%), 24 design/development projects(11.2%), 21 economic/employment/job projects(9.8%), 11 educational/career/experiences(5.1%), 9 self-concepts(4.2%), 4 welfare services(1.9%). Fourth, the current status of MZ generation research methods was quantitative research(survey/experiment) 125(58.4%), qualitative research(depth interview/participant observation) 42(19.6%), theory/literature research 35(16.4%) and mixed research 12(5.6%). Fifth, the study on the lifestyle of the MZ generation was conducted in four cases, one in 2016, one in 2019, two in 2020. This study is meaningful in that it grasped the overall flow of data of information exchange that can share the research trends of the MZ generation and suggested the basic data on the direction of future research, the individual tendency, behavior, and lifestyle characteristics of the MZ generation.

  • 두 개의 DFB 영역과 위상조정 영역으로 구성된 다중 영역 복소 결합 DFB 레이저에서 방출되는 두 모드의 비팅에 의해서 발생하는 Self-Pulsation(SP) 동작 특성을 전산 모의 하였다. SP 주파수는 두 DFB 영역에서 발진하는 모드의 파장 차이에 의해 결정되며, 각각의 DFB 영역의 발진 모드의 파장은 회절격자 주기의 변화에 의해 달라진다. 두 DFB 영역의 회절격자의 주기 차이를 변화시킴으로써 다중 영역 DFB 레이저에서 밭생하는 SP 주파수를 매우 낮은 주파수에서 THz 영역까지 변화시킬 수 있었다. 또한 발진 모드가 다른 DFB 영역의 금지대역에 놓이지 않는 경우 발진되는 모드는 다른 DFB 영역으로 큰 반사 없이 진행하여 두 모드들 사이의 상호작용이 크게 발생하여 index-coupled 회절격자를 가지는 다중 영역 DFB 레이저와는 달리 변조 지수가 매우 큰 출력을 얻을 수 있었다.

Inhibition of Class I Histone Deacetylase Enhances Self-Reprogramming of Spermatogonial Stem Cells into Pluripotent Stem Cells

  • Background and Objectives: Spermatogonial stem cells (SSCs) are the most primitive cells in spermatogenesis and are the only adult stem cells capable of passing on the genome of a given species to the next generation. SSCs are the only adult stem cells known to exhibit high Oct4 expression and can be induced to self-reprogram into pluripotent cells depending on culture conditions. Epigenetic modulation is well known to be involved in the induction of pluripotency of somatic cells. However, epigenetic modulation in self-reprogramming of SSCs into pluripotent cells has not been studied. Methods and Results: In this study, we examined the involvement of epigenetic modulation by assessing whether selfreprogramming of SSCs is enhanced by treatment with epigenetic modulators. We found that second-generation selective class I HDAC inhibitors increased SSC reprogramming efficiency, whereas non-selective HDAC inhibitors had no effect. Conclusions: We showed that pluripotent stem cells derived from adult SSCs by treatment with small molecules with epigenetic modulator functions exhibit pluripotency in vitro and in vivo. Our results suggest that the mechanism of SSC reprogramming by epigenetic modulator can be used for important applications in epigenetic reprogramming research.

  • 최근, 규칙적인 운동이나 식단을 통해 건강을 관리하고 이를 SNS에 인증하는 헬시플레저(Healthy-pleasure) 트렌드가 MZ세대에 자리 잡고 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 개인의 성격 특성이 건강관리 인증행위와 주관적 웰빙에 미치는 영향을 알아보았다. 그 결과, 먼저 1) SNS 인증 태도와 의도 모두에 유사비교 성향과 과시적 자기애가 정적인 영향을 미쳤으며, 하향비교 성향은 SNS 인증 변수 모두에 부적인 영향을 미쳤다. 다음으로, 2) 주관적 웰빙 모두에 사용자의 자존감이 긍정적인 영향을 미친 반면, 과시적 자기애는 스트레스에 부적인 영향을 미치고, 유사비교 성향은 만족감에 정적인 영향을 미쳤다. 즉, 유사한 사람들과의 비교는 대학생들의 건강관리 인증과 주관적 웰빙에 긍정적 영향을 미치지는 반면, 자기 존중이 아닌 자기 과시나 타인의 인정을 위한 건강관리는 오히려 그들의 주관적 웰빙에 부정적 영향을 미침을 확인할 수 있었다. 이러한 본 연구의 결과는 2030세대를 겨냥한 마케팅 시장뿐만이 아닌 MZ세대가 건강한 삶을 영위 할 수 있는 미디어 및 문화 환경을 위해 적극 반영 되어야 할 것이다.

SRA 알고리즘을 이용한 Self-Similar 네트워크 Traffic의 생성 (Algorithmic Generation of Self-Similar Network Traffic Based on SRA)

  • 최근의 컴퓨터 네트워크에서 teletraffic의 양상은 Poisson 프로세스보다 self-similar 프로세스에 의해서 더 잘 반영된다. 이는 컴퓨터 네트워크의 teletraffic에 관련하여 self-similar한 성질을 고려하지 않는다면, 컴퓨터 네트워크의 성능에 관한 결과는 부정확 할 수밖에 없다는 의미가 된다. 따라서, 통신 네트워크에 관한 시뮬레이션을 수행하기 위한 매우 중요한 요소 중에 하나는 충분히 긴 self-similar한 sequence를 얼마나 잘 생성하느냐의 문제이다. 본 논문에서는 SRA (successive random addition) 방법을 이용한 pseudo-random self-similar sequence 생성기를 구현 및 분석하였다. 본 pseudo-random self-similar sequence 생성기의 성질을 매우 긴 sequence를 생성하는데 요구되는 통계적인 정확도와 생성시간에 대해서 분석하였다. 본 논문에서 제안한 SRA 방법을 이용한 pseudo-random self-similar sequence 생성기의 성능은 Hurst 변수의 상대적인 정확도로 보았을 때, 그리고 sequence의 생성시간을 고려했을 때에 적합함을 보였다. 이 생성기의 이론적 complexity는 n개의 난수를 발생하는데 O(n)이 요구된다.

  • 최근의 통신 네트워크에서 teletraffic의 양상은 Poisson 프로세스보다 self-similar 프로세스에 의해서 더 잘 반영된다. 이는 통신 네트워크의 teletraffic에 관련하여 self-similar한 성질을 고려하지 않는다면, 통신 네트워크의 성능에 관한 결과는 부정확 할 수밖에 없다는 의미가 된다. 따라서, 통신 네트워크에 관한 시뮬레이션을 수행하기 위한 매우 중요한 요소 중에 하나는 충분히 긴 self-similar한 sequence를 얼마나 잘 생성하느냐의 문제이다. 본 논문에서는 fractional Gaussian noise와 wavelet 변환을 이용한 새로운 pseudo-random self-similar sequence 생성기를 구현 및 분석하였다. 특별히 본 생성기는 다른 wavelet 변환보다 long range dependent한 프로세스들의 self-similar 구조에 잘 맞기 때문에 좀더 정확한 결과를 유도할 수 있는 Daubechies wavelet을 사용하였다. 본 생성기를 이용하여 매우 긴 sequence를 생성하는데 요구되는 통계적인 정확도와 생성시간에 대해서 분석하였으며, 본 논문에서 제안한 생성기의 성능은 Hurst 변수의 상대적인 정확도로 보았을 때, 그리고 sequence의 생성시간을 고려했을 때에 매우 우수함을 보였다. 이 생성기의 이론적 complexity는 n개의 난수를 발생하는데 0(n)이 요구된다.

자가 발전 시스템을 갖춘 고전압 전기장 수질개선 장치 개발 (Water Quality Improvement System Using High Voltage Electric Field with Self-Generation System)

  • The occurrence of algae caused by eutrophication of fresh water is a pollution source to destroy the aquatic environment. When the high voltage electric field is applied in the water, When a high voltage is applied to the electric field in the water, the algae can be broken the balance of cell membranes, and is dead. In this paper, we develop a water quality improvement system for generating an electric field having a higher energy than the zeta potential when a high voltage is applied to 4,000V. To ensure the mobility of the water quality improvement system, we designed the PV generation system using the optimal size technique that is based on the model of power lack ratio. By evaluating the output characteristics of the water quality improvement system, power generation characteristics of the PV generation system, and battery charging characteristics, we can show that the proposed system can be applicable to the water quality improvement system inhibiting the growth rate of the algae in the fresh water.
