The purpose of this study is to plan out a university students' self-development program and to verify the effect of the students in adapting themselves to college life and coping with stress from it. The program was developed as the liberal arts course for a semester and comprised 12 sessions. Each secession of a 150 minutes workshop program. The pre-test, post test regarding students adaptation to college and stress coping methods conducts upon each experimental group and each control group. Each group consisted of 50 subjects. As a result of this research, this study could come to the following conclusions. Firstly, it was found that the university students' self-development program has effect on improving students adaptation to college. Secondly, it was found that the university students' self-development program has effect on improving stress coping methods.

The purpose of this study was to understand the clinical nurses' burnout, job stress, coping, self-efficacy and to identify the factors that influence on burnout. A quantitative, descriptive design was used to study 140 clinical nurses in B and U city, recruited from June to July, 2012. The data were analyzed SPSS 20.0 program using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficients and stepwise multiple regression. The mean score for burnout was 2.28 points(range: 1-4). Burnout was significantly correlated with job stress, coping and self-efficacy. These variables accounted for 37.4% of burnout. Based on the results, the sorts of strategies to reduce the burnout are required by offering job stress, coping and self-efficacy management.

The purpose of this study is to verify the mediating effects of self-efficacy in correlation between conscientiousness and neuroticism among the Big Five personality traits and stress coping strategies. The following two study questions were formulated. Study Question 1: What is the correlation between the Big Five personality traits, stress coping strategies, and self-efficacy Study Question 2: Among the Big Five personality traits, conscientiousness and neuroticism are selected as clinically very meaningful variables that represent mental health in undergraduates. If so, does self-efficacy play a mediating role in the correlation between conscientiousness and neuroticism and stress coping strategies To verify the two study questions, the Big Five personality traits, stress coping strategies scale, and self-efficacy scale were measured for a sample of 462 freshmen attending D University located in Chungcheong. First, according to the results of correlation analysis, neuroticism and self-efficacy showed a negative correlation, and conscientiousness showed a positive correlation. Regarding the Big Five personality traits and stress coping strategies, conscientiousness showed a negative correlation with avoidance-orientation among stress coping strategies. Neuroticism showed a negative correlation with social support and problem solving-orientation among stress coping strategies. Second, according to the results of analyzing the mediating effects of self-efficacy through hierarchical regression analysis, self-efficacy exerted partial mediating effects only in correlation between neuroticism and avoidance-orientation. This study is significant in its anticipation of undergraduates' stress coping, personality factors can be usefully employed as psychological constructs, and particularly, when an undergraduate reveals the neuroticism factor, which is one of the predictors for mental health, and the tendencies of avoidance among stress coping strategies, educational interventions for self-efficacy are needed to reduce their mental stress.
Improvements in therapy have resulted in increasing numbers of children being successfully treated for cancer. However the agrressiveness of therapy & uncertainty about prognosis are associated with many adverse effects, psychological as well as physical for both the child & family. The purpose of this study were to measure the degree of perceived uncertainty, self-efficacy & coping, and then to examine the relationship between the perceived uncertainty, self-efficacy & coping in parents of children cancer patients. The subjects of this study consist of 140 parents with pediatric cancer, registered at pediatric cancer ward & Out Patient Department. Data was collected from July 1st to August 15th 1998. The tools used in this study were Mishel's the Parents' Perception of Uncertainty Scale (28 item, 4 likert scale), Shere's Self-Efficacy Scale (17 item, 5 likert scale) & Folkman & Lazarus Ways of Coping Checklist(34 items, 4 likert scale). Data was analyzed by t-test, Anova, Pearson Correlation coefficient. Results of this study are summerized as follows 1. Parents perceived their uncertainty to be slightly high(Mn 2.41). The degree of perceived uncertainty by the four components were followed as lack of clarity (2.60), unpredictability(2.59), ambiguity(2.51) & lack of information(1.90). The degree of perceived uncertainty of parents with pediatric cancer revealed to be influenced significantly by the family outcome, reliability about health care provider & perceived severity of illness. 2. The range of parents' self-efficacy was measured iron 35 to 85 point, so revealed slightly high. The degree of self-efficacy related to be Influenced signiicantly by the sequency of child birth, family religion & degree of perceived support. 3. The degree of parents' coping was measured slightly high (Mn 2.78). The degree of coping related to be influnced significantly by the sequency of child birth, number of sible & degree of perceived support. 4. parents' uncertainty was related inversely to the parents' self-efficacy(r=-.38, p<.001) & coping(r=-.26, p<.001). And also parents' self-efficacy was positively related to coping(r=.56, p<.001) From the above results, it can be concluded that predicting & controlling parents' uncertainty with children cancer are necessary to improve positive coping strategies. This information may be used as a foundation for developing nursing interventions to decrease perceived uncertainty & to foster self-efficacy & coping for parents with children cancer.
This study focused on the effects of family, individual characteristics of adolescents and coping behaviors on adolescent runaway. The major findings were as follows: 1. Adolescent who had higher level of family violence, lower level of communication with parent, family cohesion and adaptability, and resource adequacy perception reported higher scores in runaway. 2. Adolescents who had higher level of emotional distress, lower level of self-esteem and self-control tended to have higher scores in runaway. 3. There was a significant difference in adolescent runaway according to coping behavior styles. 4. Maladaptive coping behaviors were significantly associated with the runaway adolescent group. 5. Adaptive coping behaviors were not associated with both runaways and non-runaways group. 6. Communication with father had a direct effect on adolescent runaway and also indirect effects through emotional stress and maladaptive coping behavior. 7. Maladaptive coping behaviors had a direct effect on adolescent runaway but adaptive coping behavior had no effect. 8. Emotional stress had an indirect effect through maladaptive coping behavior on adolescent runaway. 9. Communication with father had a direct effect and an indirect effect through self-esteem of adolescents on the adaptive coping behavior. 10. Family adaptability had a direct effect on the adaptive coping behavior.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between self-management, stress coping, and physical self-concept of health exercise participants. To this end, a total of 274 questionnaire results were obtained by visiting 12 fitness center in the metropolitan area that is running a health exercise program. This was analyzed through the SPSS program, and the following results were obtained. It showed a significant explanatory power in the relationship between self-management and stress coping of health exercise participants. In addition, it also showed significant explanatory power in the relationship between self-management and physical self-concept. Finally, it showed significant explanatory power in the relationship between stress coping and physical self-concept. Through this study, it was found that there was a significant causal relationship between self-management, stress coping, and physical self-concept of healthy exercise participants. In follow-up studies, an in-depth analysis of self-management is required through the causal relationship with environmental factors related to self-management.
The purpose of this study is to examine what sort of causes have the effect on the coping behavior of the unemployed against their job loss. For the purpose of the study, following independent variables have been selected, locus of control, self-efficacy and autotelic personality. As dependent variables, two types of coping behaviors of individual have been used, problem-focused coping strategies and symptom-focused coping strategies. To test the hypotheses, structural equation modeling was employed. The model showed adequate fit to the data. The results of structural equation modeling exhibit that internal locus of control, self-efficacy and autotelic personality were positively related problem-focused coping strategies. And self-efficacy was negatively related to symptom-focused coping strategies. Implications are discussed and future research directions are outlined.
The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between self-esteem and quality of life (QOL) and between coping type and quality of life (QOL) in mothers of handicapped children and (further to identify the level of self-esteem and quality of life of the subjects. The subjects of this study were the 51 mothers of handicapped children who were registered in two special schools in Taejon. The data were collected using a questionnaire and the period of the data collection was from April 18th to May 26th, 1997. The instruments for this study were Rosenberg's self-esteem scale, Folkman & Lazarus's Ways of Coping Checklist(WCC) and the quality of life scale designed by Ro, You Ja. The results were analyzed using SPSS/PC/sup +/. Data analysis included the descriptive correlational statistics of ANOVA. Pearson Correlational Coefficient, and t-test. The results are as follows : 1. The level of self-esteem showed a mean score 34.51 and the level of QOL, a mean score 137.55. An Active type of coping was used more of fen than a passive one. 2. The level of self-esteem differed according to monthly income and was significantly higher in mothers of children with acquired handicaps than those of children with congenital handicaps. The level of QOL differed according to monthly income. 3. There was a positive correlation between health status and self-esteem(r=.355, p<.05), and between health status and QOL(r=.367, p<.01). 4. Test for hypothesis ; Hypothesis 1, "The higher the level of self-esteem in mothers of handicapped children, the higher their level of quality of life will be. "was supported (r=.755, p<.001) Hypothesis 2, "The QOL level for the active coping group as compared to the passive coping group will be higher. " was not supported.
Purpose: This study was performed to identify the relationship between Sense of Humor, Coping Humor, Perceived stress and self-esteem in the middle-aged women. Methods: Data were collected from the 20th of June to the 30th of August in 2009 from 145 middle-aged women living in Seoul. Data analysis was done with SPSS/WIN 12.0 program for descriptive statistics and Pearson correlation. Results: The mean score of the humor sense was $55.94{\pm}6.52$, coping humor was $21.11{\pm}3.82$, perceived stress was $22.21{\pm}3.03$ and self-esteem was $27.50{\pm}2.88$. Subcategories of sense of humor were that emotional expressiveness was average $20.75{\pm}2.70$, meta-message sensitivity was average $20.12{\pm}2.74$ and liking of humor was average $15.13{\pm}3.44$. Sense of humor was difference according to the economic status(t=2.000, p=.047), coping humor was difference according to the on medication use(t=2.227, p=.027). There was a significant correlation between the coping humor, perceived stress and the self-esteem. When the coping humor was higher, perceived stress was lower and the self-esteem was higher. Conclusion: This study showed that medication and economic status influences the humor scores and the sense of humor and coping humor were related to perceived stress and self-esteem in middle-aged women Therefore, these findings can provide the basis for the development of nursing intervention to increase the ability to coping with stress.
The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of the self-control of dental hygiene students on their stress and stress-coping style. The subjects in this study were dental hygiene students who were selected by convenience sampling from three different colleges. After data were gathered, the answer sheets from 561 respondents were analyzed. The findings of the study were as follows: 1. Concerning the level of self-control, the dental hygiene students got a mean of 3.22. As to self-control by grade, the juniors got the highest scores of 3.27 (p<0.05), and those who were under heavier stress were poorer at self-control (p<0.05). 2. In regard to stress-coping style, they got a mean of 3.28 and 3.34 in active coping and passive coping respectively. Passive coping was more prevailing, and the students whose economic status was higher made more use of active coping styles (p<0.001). There were statistically significant differences in active coping styles according to stress level (p<0.01) and the effect of stress on health (p<0.05). 3. Better self-control led to more frequent use of active coping styles. The above-mentioned findings imply that self-control is one of factors to affect stress coping. Therefore the development of counseling programs is required to step up the improvement of self-control.
