Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify health promoting behaviors and the relationship between health promoting behaviors and state and trait anger in middle-aged men. Method: In this descriptive correlational study, the participants were 143 middle-aged men who lived in D city. Data were collected from November, 2004 to January. 2005. Personal interviews with a structured questionnaire were used. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, and Pearson correlation coefficients with SPSS Win 11.0 program. Results: The score for health promoting behavior in the middle-aged men was above the mean score. The highest dimension was self-actualization and the lowest dimension of health promoting behaviors was exercise. A significant negative correlation was found between health promoting behaviors and state anger in middle-aged men. But there was no significant correlation between health promoting behaviors and trait anger. Conclusion: These results suggest that state anger should be considered as an important factor when nurses develop educational programs to enhance health promoting behavior in middle-aged men.
This thesis discussed the nature of freedom of speech with emphasis on Locke's theory of social contract. First, I examined the nature of freedom of speech induced from Locke's social contract, and argued that the nature of Locke's freedom of speech exists on the self-ownership of humans. Secondly, I studied how Locke's right of self-ownership was related to the right of freedom of speech and how it is realized in civil society. I could analyze how freedom of speech was actualized with un-equality in the social relations. Thirdly, I investigated how locke's possessive freedom of speech was materialized in the market society. I tried to find out the nature of freedom of speech actualization in the capitalist market society. Finally, 1 studied to what extent the state of Locke could intervene the freedom of speech and reconsidered the meaning of locke's limit of natural risht in modern society. Conclusively, Locke's notion of Natural Right and Law of Nature have greatly influenced contemporary idea of free speech. His idea helps understand the position of liberal democratic speech. It also shows well the relation of freedom of speech and Natural Right and has helped us understand freedom of speech in terms of the position of the right of property.
The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship among psychosocial well-being, perceived health status and health promoting lifestyle practices. Data has been collected from November 1, 1998 to April 30, 1999. One hundred and ninety eight middle-aged women completed a multiple self-reported questionnaire on psychosocial well-being, perceived health status and health promoting lifestyle profile. Collected data were analyzed with SPSS 7.5 for Windows using Pearson Correlation Coefficients, t-test, ANOVA, Scheffe test. The Major results of this study were as follows: 1. The average item score for psychosocial well-being was low at 54.49, the level of perceived health status was moderate at 5.74, and health promoting lifestyle practices were low at 112.05. Among the subscales of the health promoting lifestyle profile, self-actualization(3.08) and nutrition(2.92) were scored higher than exercise(1.81) and health responsibility(1.79). 2. The performance of health promoting lifestyle was positively correlated with perceived health status(r= .190) and psychosocial well-being(r= .497). Also, positive correlations were observed between perceived health status and psychosocial well-being(r= .181). 3. There were statistically significant differences for health promoting lifestyle, psychosocial well-being and perceived health status according to sociodemographic variables; the performance of health promoting lifestyle was significantly different according to education, economic status, exercise and smoking. Psychosocial well-being was also significantly different according to education, exercise and drinking. Perceived health status was significantly different according to religion, education, occupation and supporter. These findings help to understand relationships among psychosocial well-being, perceived health status, and health promoting lifestyle practices in middle-aged women in Korea. Therefore, the result of this study provide clues for encouraging people to adopt healthier lifestyles and constructing alternative strategies for promoting health practices.
The Purpose of this study were 1) to find out the characteristics of health promoting Ii festyles of the study samples, 2) to determine the relationships of physical health and mental health, 3) to determine the relationships of health promoting lifestyles and health status. The health promotion model was tested with a volunteer sample of 141 female students in a university in Seoul. The health promoting lifestyle was measured by the scales developed by Walker and Pender(1987). Health status was measured by Cornell medical Index. Pearson's product moment correlations and stepwise multiple regression technique were used to analyze the data. The results are summarized as follows; 1. The items with the highest frequency of the subscales of health promoting lifestyle were 'look forward to the future' $(133,\;95.0\%)$ in self actualization, 'Enjoy being touched and touching people close to me' $(122,\; 87.14\%)$ in relationships with others. The strongest correlation was between general competence In self care and nutritional practice(r=5388, P<. 0001). 2. Fatigability, frequency of illness, miscellaneous diseases, habit, mood and feeling patterns were predictive of mental health. 3. Total health promoting lifestyles explained $14\%$ of the variance for health status. Relationships with others explained $20.9\%$ of the variance for health status. In conclusion, because the most variance explained was $420.9\%$, there must be other variables not accounted for by the model. that influence health promoting behaviors. Psychological factors accounted for more variance than other factors. Intervention studies focused on psychological factors as a means of altering behaviors have great potential for the design of interventions to increase health promoting behaviors. Further testing of the model with this population should be done.
The purpose of this study was to identify transition conditions, health behavior and indicators of healthy transitions among middle-aged women based on Schumacher & Meleis(1994) transition model for developing intervention program for their health promotion. A convenience sample of 221 women aged 40-60 was obtained in Jung-Gu, Seoul and they were asked to complete the questionnaires, which consisted of modified health-promoting lifestyle profile(HPLP), knowledge of menopause, physical well-being, emotional well-being, modified women's role integration protocol (WRIP), Beck's Depression Inventory(BDI), and indicators of healthy transition with subcategories such as subjective well-being, role mastery and well-being of interrelationship. The results were as follows: 1. Women had a mean age of 47.53 years. More than half(53.39%) of the women had jobs and 88.69 % had their spouses, Of 221 women, 51.13 % were premenopausal, 19.91% were perimenopausal, and 28.96% were postmenopausal. 2. Women scored lower on health responsibility and exercise than on self actualization, nutrition and interpersonal support among subcategories of health behavior measured the modified HPLP. Only 11.98% of respondents had breast-self examination and 42.66% had pap smear for screening cancer. 3. In transition conditions, women had poor knowledge about menopause and median level of physical well-being, emotional well-being and stress. 15.45% of the women had clinical depression. 4. As for the outcome index of the transition model, the mean of indicators of healthy transition was 3.69(possible range 1-5). 5. The levels of education and economic and the menstrual status were significantly related to physical well-being, depression and stress in the categories of transition conditions. The total score of health behavior correlated negatively with depression. The total score of indicators of healthy transition correlated with physical well-being, emotional well-being, stress, and depression in the categories of transition conditions. In conclusion, these findings suggested a profile of fragile middle-aged women and contributed to developing the community-based intervention program for health promotion.
This study was done to examine the relationship among psychosocial well-being, perceived health status and health promoting lifestyle practices, and to Identify those variables affecting a health promoting lifestyle. Three hundred and forty five ruddle-aged adults completed a multiple self-reported questionnaire on psychosocial well-being, perceived health status and health promoting lifestyle profile. Data analysis were conducted by using Pearson correlation coefficients, t-test, ANOVA, Scheffe test and stepwise multiple regression nth SAS program. The results are as follows : 1. The average item score for psychosocial well-being was low at 55.98, the level of perceived health status was moderate at 5.76, and health promoting lifestyle practices were low at 110.09. Among the subscales of the health promoting lifestyle profile, stress management and self-actualization were scored higher than exercise and health responsibility. 2. This study conducted meta-analysis of librarians' job satisfaction using the Hedges & Olkin's Effect Size Model. Sex and Marrage as group variables, and Total Satisfaction and 7 sub-variables(Work Itself, Salary, Promotion, Supervision, Working Conditions, Social Recognition, Self-actualization) as dependent variables were selected from 27 studies. The effect sizes between men and women were significantly different on Supervision, Working conditions, Promotion, and Social Recognition, of which first two were homogeneous. But the difference of Social Recognition was not significant in Random Effect Model. The effect sizes difference between married and unmarried were significant on Self Recognition, Salary, and Work Itself. However the difference of Work Itself was not significant in Random Effect Model. Study Year could not be a moderator.
This study explains motivation and purpose of adolescents' game use based on Adler's individual psychology. Through in-depth interviews, it was found that the game is a field to reveal their need for approval in the social community and a means of expressing the attitude toward their life. In addition, need for approval shows a difference in adaptive/maladaptive attitude according to the social interest. This means that the role of peers, parents, and society is important in order for an individual's need for approval to produce social adaptive outcomes. It is necessary to acknowledge the game as an important area of self-actualization in which an adolescent is internalizing social interest and recognizing their self and it is required to switch from an attitude of exclusion, disdain and ignorance to an attitude of openness and tolerance and adaptive intervention.
In this study, we examine the effects of five needs satisfaction on job satisfaction and turnover intention based on Maslow's hierarchy of needs for clinical nurses. Also, this was a convergence study that confirmed the mediating effect of job satisfaction on the relationship between need satisfaction and turnover intention. The participants were 239 clinical nurses at a general hospital located in Seoul. The collected data were analyzed for mediating effects using hierarchical regression analysis and PROCESS Macro (Model 4). Physiological and safety needs did not have a significant effect on job satisfaction while belongingness, esteem, and self-actualizations need had a significant positive effect on job satisfaction. On the other hand, physiological and esteem needs had a significant negative effect on turnover intention. In addition, the mediating effect of job satisfaction was significant in the relationship between need satisfaction (physiological, safety, belongingness, and self-actualization needs) and turnover intention. We confirm that an increase in the satisfaction of the five needs of clinical nurses can reduce their turnover intention. Therefore, we suggest that it is necessary to effectively manage need satisfaction and job satisfaction in the clinical field.
This study aims to develop a valid self-report scale for the community integration of persons with psychiatric disabilities. To this end, conducted were in-depth interviews with individuals with psychiatric disabilities, consultation with experts, and a survey. First, literature review and the in-depth interview with individuals with psychiatric disabilities were collected questionnaires regarding the community integration of persons with psychiatric disabilities. Second, preliminary research 1 focused on the selection and modification of the items collected in the first research. Final 44 items were selected by the verification of the importance and content-validity of items under the advices of professionals. Lastly, preliminaty research 2 applied cross-validation method to the data from 524 cases in order to verify the factor structure and concept-validity of the items. The result of exploratory factor analysis shows that 5 factor structures are the most appropriate, and the confirmatory factor analysis suggests that the Self-reporting Scale of Community Integration for the person with psychiatric disabilities consists of 27 questionnaires which compose 5sub-concepts such as'psychological integration','physical integration', 'social support', 'social integration', 'independence/self-actualization'. Moreover, this scale was significantly related to the 'Life Satisfaction scale for the person with psychiatric disabilities'. This proved concurrent validity of the scale.
