The problem of selecting variables in the presence of outliers is considered. Variable selection and outlier detection are not separable problems because each observation affects the fitted regression equation differently and has a different influence on each variable. We suggest a simultaneous method for variable selection and outlier detection in a linear regression model. The suggested procedure uses a sequential method to detect outliers and uses all possible subset regressions for model selections. A simplified version of the procedure is also proposed to reduce the computational burden. The procedures are compared to other variable selection methods using real data sets known to contain outliers. Examples show that the proposed procedures are effective and superior to robust algorithms in selecting the best model.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between the freedom in dress and the behavior on clothing selections for a group of female college students. Through this study, the following were found: 1. A significant relationship was found between the freedom in dress and the behavior on clothing selections. 2. There was a significant relationship between clothing selection abilities and clothing satisfaction determinants. 3. There was a significant relationship between practicality and freedom in dress. 4. The revel of the freedom in dress among the Free dresser groups turned out to have a profound relation with the fashion, while that among the Less free dresser groups had a correlation with the economic exhibitionism.

In This paper, we propose a design procedure for a SD $H_{\infty}$controller with PID performance. In developing the procedure, we use the basic idea of standard$H_{\infty}$problem, and then applied it to the SD system, which consists of the continuous plant and the discrete controller. This $H_{\infty}$controller design procedure involves the selections of weighting functions. The selections considered the relation of the closed loop specification between the $H_{\infty}$controller and PID. We illustrate this procedure in the controller design for a two-mass spring system.

This study examines differences in the household saving show significant differences according to the specific stage of family life cycle. 337 housewives in Taegu were interviewed by questionnaire. Analysing method employed are frequency, percentage and Chisquare test. Findings are as follows; 1) The average ratios of household saving show significant differences according to the specific stage of family life cycle. 2) Purposed of household savings had significant differences at each stage of the family life cycle. 3) Selections of financial goods did not have significant differences according to the sage of family life cycle . 4) Selections of financial goods had significant difference according to the purposed of household savings.

For the planning of future land use for economic activities, an essential component is the identification of the vulnerable areas for natural hazard and environmental impacts from the activities. Also, exploration for mineral and energy resources is carried out by a step by step approach. At each step, a selection of the target area for the next exploration strategy is made based on all the data harnessed from the previous steps. The uncertainty of the selected target area containing undiscovered resources is a critical factor for estimating the exploration risk. We have developed not only spatial prediction models based on adapted artificial intelligence techniques to predict target and vulnerable areas but also validation techniques to estimate the uncertainties associated with the predictions. The prediction models will assist the scientists and decision-makers to make two critical decisions: (i) of the selections of the target or vulnerable areas, and (ii) of estimating the risks associated with the selections.

Selection procedures for breeding lines resistant to both bacterial wilt caused by Ralstonia solanacearum and Phytophthora blight caused by P. capsici were executed to generations from $F_2$ and $BC_1F_1$ to $F_4$ and $BC_1F_3$ of crosses between a Phytophthora resistant breed, 'Chilbok No. 1' and bacterial wilt resistant accessions introduced from Vietnam during 2009 and 2010. The breeding populations or lines were tested for resistance to P. capsici and resistant plants were selected. The resistant selections were inoculated with R. solanacearum to discard susceptible plants. Resistance to P. capsici was conspicuously improved by selection from $F_2$ and $BC_1F_1$ and the final selections showed a similar level of resistance to P. capsici as a commercial Phytophthora resistant cultivar, Muhanjilju. A few $BC_1F_2$ selections were crossed to a cytoplasmic male sterile line, Chilbok-A, to identify their nuclear genotype interacting with male sterile cytoplasm. Majority of them was fixed to maintainer (Nrfrf) and only two resulted segregating into male sterile and male fertile plants indicating that the pollen parents were heterozygous in the fertility-restoring gene.

Back pain has plagued humans for many thousands of years. The treatment of back pain is divided into operative treatment and conservative treatment. It is reported that cure rate of conservative treatment is 80~90 percent. Generally, the treatment of oriental medicine is mostly conservative treatment. But, surgery should not be used as a last resort in treatment; it is just one of many treatment options for various spinal conditions. In some instance, it can be to preferred choice; in other situations, alternative therapies may be superior. Selections of the operation in HIVD 1. Acute disc herniations with a protracted significant component af back pain. 2. Chronic disc degeneration with significant back pain and degeneration limited to one or two disc levels. 3. Sugical instability created during decompression. 4. The presence of neural arch defects coincident with disc disease. 5. Symptamatic and radiographically demonstrable segmental instability. Selections of the operation in stenosis 1. If it does not slowly progress in physical therapy and other nonoperative measures, many of these patients may ultimately need surgical decompression. 2. Absolute stenosis in an impression of CT, MRI.(under 10mm) 3. In patients with established symptoms of .neurogenic claudication. 4. In patients with bad influence of neurogenic derangement.(strength, sensory) Selections of the operation in spondylolisthesis 1. Persistence or recurrence of major symptoms for at least one year despite activity modification and physical therapy. 2. Tight hamstrings, persistently abnormal gait, or postural deformities unrelieved by physical therapy. 3. Sciatic scoliosis. 4. Progressive neurologic deficit. 5. Progressive slipping beyond 25 or 50 percent, even when asymptomatic. 6. A high slip angle (40 to 50 degrees) in a growing child, since it is likely to be associated with further progression and deformity. 7. Psychologic problems attributed to shortness of trunk, abnormal gait, and postural deformities characteristic of more severe slips.

Resistance to Phytophthora Capsici and horticultural characteristics of selections from the resistance sources such as PI123469, PI201234, PI201232, AC2258 (=Line 29), CM334, KC268, KC358, KC820, KC821, KC822, KC823 (Line 29), KC462, KC463, KC464 were evaluated and recorded in the process of seed increase. Selections of PI123469, PI201234, PI201232, AC2258, KC823 (Line 29 = AC2258) of them showed the highest level of resistance. A considerable difference in the level of resistance was observed between lines selected from the same sources. The variation between selections derived from the same source was thought to be attributable to natural cross-pollination that may have occurred during the seed increase. Therefore, securing self-pollinated seed by wrapping the flower buds before anthesis would be necessary to obtain genetically pore resistant lines. The next alternative would be to increase the seed in small net houses for single line or field cage.
