Purpose : Customers with loyalty are very important to hospitals for sustainable growth in their medical market. Individuals with loyalty are likely to visit same hospital repeatedly when they need medical services. This study was to identify factors associated with selection of specialty hospitals among customers with loyalty. Methods : The subjects of this study were 735 inpatients in 22 specialty hospitals in 6 designated fields(joints, spine, colorectal-anal, obstetrics and gynecology, ophthalmology, otolaryngology). Customer types classified as customers with high loyalty, neutral customers, and customers with low loyalty according to net promoter score(NPS). Factor analysis was conducted to classify 22 hospital selection factors into some similar properties. Logistic regression analysis was conducted to confirm the selection factors related to loyal customers. Findings : Most of specialty hospitals received high NPS of 8 points or higher in all the designated fields. Five factors associated with selection of specialty hospital are (1) hospital facilities and convenience, (2) trust in doctor and hospital, (3) rapidness of treatment, (4) hospital awareness, and (5) accessibility. As a result of logistic regression analysis, selection factors related to loyal customers were 'hospital facilities and convenience', 'trust in doctor and hospital' and 'rapidness of treatment'. Differences in the degree of importance of three selection factors by customer types appeared for each designated field. Practical Implications : This study confirms the high level of patient experience among inpatients of specialty hospitals. Factors associated with selection of hospital among inpatients with loyalty are 'facilities and convenience of hospitals', 'trust of doctor and hospital' and 'rapidness of treatment'. This study will be meaningful as basic data to systematically enhance the roles and functions of the health care system and to provide securing competitiveness according to designated fields in the management aspect of specialty hospitals.
The healthcare environment today is changing rapidly with factors of healthcare consumers in selecting medical institutions also altering at a fast pace under the circumstances. In this study, the theory of consumption values established by Sheth in 1991 is adopted in order to examine particular value affecting consumer selection of healthcare institutions. For the purpose of this study, healthcare consumers were surveyed using questionnaires developed based on the five values of Sheth supplemented by value of effort to acquire hospital information and value in health. Consequently, 24 consumption values affecting selection process were confirmed through discriminant analysis. As a result of regression analysis on factors affecting consumer selection of healthcare institution, effort to acquire hospital information and age among demographic characteristics of respondents are determined important predictors for consumer selection of general hospitals over clinics or small-sized hospitals. Further, service, reputation scale of healthcare institution among functional values and importance of health and effort to acquire hospital information among value in health are identified as significant predictors for consumer selection of large-sized general hospitals over clinic or small-sized hospitals. This study suggests not only vital implications for marketing strategy of healthcare institutions, but also methods to promote positive image for healthcare providers. In addition, this study closely examines the cause of the leaning phenomenon of healthcare comsumers toward large-sized general hospitals.
The purposes of this study were to investigate factors of the Obstetrics & Gynecology healthcare consumers' selection of hospitals by lifestyle segmentation and to propose managerial suggestions in health care marketing. Out of total 400 Questionnaires, 351 were considered to be valid for final analysis. The Questionnaire consisted of 81 Questions. 11 demographic Questions, 15 factors for selecting hospitals, 55 lifestyle. The collected data were analyzed with SPSS/pc+ Version 10.0. The subjects were divided into four groups in terms of their lifestyles: 'health active group', 'health conscious group', 'health indifferent group', 'health inactive group'. The analysis of factors related to the selection of hospitals shows that there were four factors: 'accessability', 'medical trust', 'cost and convenience', 'facilities'. Conclusion: As a results of this study, 4 types of healthcare consumers' lifestyle were defined. Each life style has specific characteristics. 'Health active group' pursue 'accessability', 'medical trust', 'cost and convenience' and Health conscious group' depended on 'medical trust', 'cost and convenience'. and 'facilities'. 'Health indifferent group' didn't show any special interest in the selection of hospitals and that 'Health inactive group' relied on 'medical trust', and 'facilities'.
Recently hospitals are trying to meet requests of patients by reflecting regular survey results of patients into hospital's management in order to increase patients' satisfaction and the rate of return visit. In this paper, degree of patients' satisfaction and the rate of return visit were analyzed using surveys of hospital selection factors and the characteristics of aesthetic plastic surgery. This analysis results can be used as data for setting up efficient management direction of aesthetic plastic surgery hospitals. In the main results, facilities and medical trust factor was the primary cause for aesthetic plastic surgery patients to select hospitals and the results showed that hospitals have to consider carefully not only aesthetic plastic surgery patients but also guardians such as parents or friends because patients are acquiring surgery information from them. The results also showed approachableness to hospitals was not important factor to select a hospital.
Objectives: This study was performed to investigate selection factors for specialized hospital and to find out the impact of hospital selection factors on satisfaction, revisiting invention and recommendations. Methods: A survey was performed with 398 inpatients of 4 specialized joint hospital in Busan. Data were collected from August to October 2016 with questionnaires and analyzed using SPSS 24.0. Results: First, inpatients know that it was a specialized hospital were highly satisfied and willing to revisit and recommend. Second, in hospital satisfaction, influence size was shown in order of specialty factors, service quality factors, physical factors, and accessibility factors. Third, the intention to revisit hospitals was higher in the awareness of a specialized hospital and high satisfied inpatients, and recommendation intend were affected by the higher revisitation intention, the high satisfaction level, and the high professionality level. Conclusions: All the hospital selection 4 factors for joint specialized hospitals affects satisfaction level which is linked to revisit and recommend. Specialized Hospitals will have to strengthen qualitative management of hospital selection factors to enhance patient satisfaction.
The purpose of this study was to identify the reason for patients to choose a hospital. We divided the hospital into two types of hospitals : corporate hospitals and university hospitals. We inverstigated patients' satisfaction according to the image of hospitals. For this purpose, two corporate hospitals and two university hospitals were selected. Data were collected from the self-administered questionnaire for the patients admitted to these four hospitals in April 1996. 772 questionnaires were collected and 55 cases had no answer or insincere answers. So, we used 707 questionnaires for the analysis. Corporate hospitals had modern facilities. However, patients preferred university hospitals because of the reliability of medical staffs and easy accessibility. University hospitals had higher level of satisfaction of medical services, while the corporate hospital had higher level of satisfaction to the friendly atmosphere, and kindness of hospital staffs. When the patients come to hospitals again after discharge, they would consider medical services, hospital atmosphere, and kindness of medical staffs regardless of hospital types. In conclusion, the reasons for patients selecting university hospitals are reliability, history, and tradition of medical services. Instead,, the reasons for patients selecting corporate hospitals are modernization of hospital facilities.
Purposes: This study aims to identify factors affecting dental university hospitals' profitability and understand recent their business condition. Methodology: Data from 2016 to 2019 was collected from financial statement, public open data in 8 dental university hospitals. For the study, multiple regression test with stepwise selection was applied. Findings: First of all, 9 out of 19 independent variables were selected by stepwise selection. As a result of multiple regression test with selected independent variables and the dependent variable(operating profit margin ratio), the factors affecting hospitals' profitability were the number of dental unit chair, hospital location, debt ratio, total capital turnover ratio, employment cost rate, material cost rate, management expense rate, the number of patient per a dentist. Practical Implication: To improve dental university hospitals' profitability, hospitals specifically analysis and manage their cost such as employment, material and management cost and seek effectiveness by managing the proper number of patient per a dentist.
This research empirically analyzed the selection factors and the locational selection factors of the medical service facilities according to the gradual increase of the importance of the selection factors and the locational selection factors regarding the establishments of the small- and medium-sized hospitals according to the rapid changes of the socio-economic conditions. By analyzing the priority order according to the levels of the importance of each evaluation item factor through a research related to the selection factors and the locational selection factors of the small- and medium-sized hospitals and by drawing what the important factors that have the influences on the competitiveness of the pre-existent small- and medium-sized hospitals are through the classification of the real estate locational factors and the non-locational factors, the purpose lies in utilizing them as the basic data and materials for the opening strategies of the small- and medium-sized hospitals considering the special, locational characteristics according to the important factors of the selection factors of the small- and medium-sized hospitals, regarding the medical suppliers that have been preparing, for opening the new, small- and medium-sized hospitals. Based on the results of the preceding researches and the researches on the case examples, 28 evaluation factors were arrived at in terms of the level of the medical treatment, the medical services, the accessibilities of the hospitals, the conveniences of the hospitals, and the physical environment. And, regarding the 28 detailed evaluation factors that had been collected, through the interviews with the related experts, the 5 factors of the medical level, the medical service, the expertise of the hospital, the convenience of the hospital, and the physical environment were selected as the upper class evaluation factors. And, according to each upper class, a total of 28 low-part evaluation factors were selected. Regarding the optimal evaluation factors that were selected, the optimal locational factors were selected by carrying out an AHP questionnaire survey investigation with 200 medical experts as the subjects. Regarding the AHP analysis results, similarly with the case examples of the precedent researches, the levels of the importance appeared in the order of the medical level, the medical services, the accessibility of the hospital, the physical environment, and the convenience. And the factors that were related to the facilities of a hospital appeared low. The results of this research can be applied in providing the basis for the decision-makings regarding the selections of the locations of the small- and medium-sized hospitals in the future.
The purpose of this study is to analyze the effects of selection factors, customer satisfaction, and revisiting intention of general hospital, long-term care hospital, and oriental medicine hospital. From November 1, 2019 to April 30, 2020, a survey was conducted targeting 4 general hospitals, 6 long-term care hospitals, and 3 oriental medicine hospitals. In general hospitals, long-term care hospitals, and oriental medicine hospitals, human factors and efficiency factors had a positive(+) influence on customer satisfaction. In long-term care hospitals, the higher the income, the higher the customer satisfaction, and effectiveness factor had significant positive(+) effect on revisiting intention. For oriental medicine hospitals, the external image was an important factor in customer satisfaction and revisiting intention. Based on the research results, it is expected that hospitals entering an era of competition can become useful basic data for efficient management.
The purpose of this study was to find out the differences and relationships among balanced strategy, coordinating and learning mechanism, and perceived performance of hospitals in Korea, and provide some directions to establish effective strategic management of hospital. Measure items on balanced strategy, coordinating and learning mechanism, and perceived performance were developed from previous studies. Questionnaire was sent and received through Internet site and e-mail during May, 2008. Data were collected from key informant in each institutions, and analyzed using frequency analysis, T-test, ANOVA, correlation and regression analysis. The major findings of this study were as follows: 1. The level of strategic selection and external learning mechanism of private hospital was lower than that of medical corporation, and others corporation hospital. 2. There was little difference between hospitals in metropolitan and those in small cities. 3. Hospitals that have under 100 beds were statistically lower level in strategic selection and external learning mechanism than hospitals has over 100 beds. 4. Formal coordinating and external learning mechanism, and foundation form(medical corporation) were significantly influenced on profitability from specialized field. 5. Strategic selection and adaptation mechanism were significantly affected on total profitability. 6. Strategic selection and external learning mechanism were significantly influenced on competitive power around its local market. Hospitals that are to be competitive by specialization should have to establish mechanism for management such as balanced strategy, coordinating and learning mechanism.
