Conditional Signal-Acquisition Parameter Selection for Automated Satellite Laser Ranging System

  • An automated signal-acquisition method for the NASA's space geodesy satellite laser ranging (SGSLR) system is described as a selection of two system parameters with specified probabilities. These parameters are the correlation parameter: the minimum received pulse number for a signal-acquisition and the frame time: the minimum time for the correlation parameter. The probabilities specified are the signal-detection and false-acquisition probabilities to distinguish signals from background noise. The steps of parameter selection are finding the minimum set of values by fitting a curve and performing a graph-domain approximation. However, this selection method is inefficient, not only because of repetition of the entire process if any performance values change, such as the signal and noise count rate, but also because this method is dependent upon system specifications and environmental conditions. Moreover, computation is complicated and graph-domain approximation can introduce inaccuracy. In this study, a new method is proposed to select the parameters via a conditional equation derived from characteristics of the signal-detection and false-acquisition probabilities. The results show that this method yields better efficiency and robustness against changing performance values with simplicity and accuracy and can be easily applied to other satellite laser ranging (SLR) systems.

An Integrated DEA-AHP Model for the Acquisition of a Weapon System: Selection of a Next-Generation Fighter System in Korea

  • In this paper, we propose a data envelopment analysis (DEA) and analytic hierarchy process (AHP) integrated model to improve the selection process in the acquisition of a weapon system which is the key component to the success of the project. In particular, we applied DEA in the first stage to choose a frontier group among the candidates in the selection process of the next-generation fighter system (the 3rd FX) in Korea. Then, by using the Delphi technique, we surveyed military experts and applied AHP to determine the best choice among the candidates. The results of the study match the actual decision made by the Korean government in the weapon system acquisition. The results of the proposed DEA-AHP integrated method in the selection of the next-generation fighter systems in Korea demonstrate the usefulness of the method. In this paper, we also discuss the future implications of the proposed model.

  • In this empirical study, we try to find major factors influencing the selection of technology acquisition strategy, and to examine the relation between technology acquisition strategies and corporate performances. The results of this study are as follows. Firstly, it is required to make intrinsic efforts for the harmony of technology acquisition strategies, which guarantees the effective acquirement of new technology. Secondly, we should pay particular attention to the harmony of external and internal resources for the corporate growth, Finally, the development of new technology is to be made on the basis of technology acquisition strategy established in terms of resources.

  • Most of solution methods in scheduling attempt to generate good solutions by either developing algorithms or heuristic rules. However, scheduling problems in the real world require considering more factors such as multiple objectives, different combinations of heuristic rules due to problem characteristics. In this respect, the traditional mathematical a, pp.oach showed limited performance so that new a, pp.oaches need to be developed. Expert system is one of them. When an expert system is developed for scheduling one of the most difficult processes faced could be knowledge acquisition on scheduling heuristics. In this paper we propose a method for the acquisition of knowledge on the selection of scheduling heuristics using Dempster-Shafer Theory(DST). We also show the examples in the multi-objectives environment.

  • One important issue in semantic web is identification and selection of domain concepts for domain ontology learning when several hundreds or even thousands of terms are extracted and available from relevant text documents shared among the members of a domain. We present a novel domain concept acquisition and selection approach for ontology learning that uses affinity propagation algorithm, which takes as input semantic and structural similarity between pairs of extracted terms called data points. Real-valued messages are passed between data points (terms) until high quality set of exemplars (concepts) and cluster iteratively emerges. All exemplars will be considered as domain concepts for learning domain ontologies. Our empirical results show that our approach achieves high precision and recall in selection of domain concepts using less number of iterations.

대학도서관의 학위논문수집방안 (Acquisition of theses in university libraries)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyse the current theses acquisition in university libraries and to suggest some useful findings for the more efficient acquisition of the theses. The results of the study can be summarized as follows (1) Depositary copies of each thesis in the libraries should be increased. (2) Under cooperative efforts, libraries must establish the exchange system of the theses by region or subject or characteristics of universities. (3) Each library should set up concrete selection criteria for the receiving of theses. (4) Development of purchase system would be necessary for economic and prompt acquisition of theses. (5) Theses should be microformed so as to save their storage space. (6) To give su n.0, pport to effective acquisition activity, various bibliographies about theses should be published.

Machine Learning Based Neighbor Path Selection Model in a Communication Network

  • Neighbor path selection is to pre-select alternate routes in case geographically correlated failures occur simultaneously on the communication network. Conventional heuristic-based algorithms no longer improve solutions because they cannot sufficiently utilize historical failure information. We present a novel solution model for neighbor path selection by using machine learning technique. Our proposed machine learning neighbor path selection (ML-NPS) model is composed of five modules- random graph generation, data set creation, machine learning modeling, neighbor path prediction, and path information acquisition. It is implemented by Python with Keras on Tensorflow and executed on the tiny computer, Raspberry PI 4B. Performance evaluations via numerical simulation show that the neighbor path communication success probability of our model is better than that of the conventional heuristic by 26% on the average.

  • Weapon systems are curcial instruments for the security of a nation and critical elements for the victory in a war. Since modern weapon systems tend to be capital-intensive with high precision and quality, they become more and more complex and diversified; their acquisition costs become huge; and their technological obsolescence becomes accelerated. Therefore, the systematic management of weapon acquisition process would be one of the most important defense tasks at the national level. To analyze such problems and find solutions, this paper has studied various aspects related to the efficient management of weapon system acquisition. After brief summarization of the general characteristics of weapon systems, their effectiveness, and developmental trend, the paper discusses the defense management policies and techniques for the weapon systems. Specifically, four alternative acquisition methods such as indigenous R & D, foreign purchase, co-production and joint-production are discussed and analyzed by systems approach. The systems analysis procedure to evaluate and select weapon acquisition method is as follows; 1) to analyze the merits and demerits of the alternative methods, 2) to screen unrealistic alternatives through the consideration of significant factors such as political, economic, military, technological, and social constraints, 3) to evaluate and select an optimal one among the remaining acquisition methods after the cost-effectivenss analysis. For the base of cost-effectivess analysis, cost analysis model as well as effectiveness analysis model of each acquisition method are developed.

진도관리 자동화를 위한 자료수집기술(DAT) 선정 방법 (Data Acquisition Technology (DAT) Selection Algorithm for Automated Progress Measurement and Management)

  • 건설 프로젝트의 성과 측정 및 관리에 있어 진도관리는 기본적이며 핵심적인 업무기능이다. 오랜 기간 동안 다양한 진도 관리 기법이 연구 개발되고 있음에도 불구하고, 자료수집을 위한 과도한 업무부담은 체계화된 진도관리의 장애요소로 지적되어 왔다. 최근 자료수집기술(Data Acquisition Technology, DAT)의 발전은 자동화된 진도관리의 기회를 제공하고 하고 있다. 그럼에도 불구하고 지금까지의 DAT 연구는 특정 공종 또는 특정 기술에 집중하고 있어, 건설사업 전체의 진도관리 자동화에 대한 연구는 이루어지지 않았다. 이러한 관점에서, 본 연구는 건설사업 공종별 최적의 DAT를 선정하는 방법론을 제안하였다. DAT 선정방법은 각 공종별 진도측정의 방법, 대상, 범위, 기술 등의 유형을 분류하여, 이를 DAT 특성별로 최적치를 도출하는 알고리즘으로 구성된다. 제안된 방법론의 검증을 위하여 사례 프로젝트를 이용한 기계적 분석을 실시하고 또한 실무자 평가를 수행한 결과, 대부분 공종에서 동일한 결과를 얻었다. 또한 사례현장 평가결과 중의 하나로서, 노무자의 층별 출입정보를 RFID를 활용하여 측정하는 것이 가장 효율적이며 가장 많은 공종에 적용이 가능한 것으로 나타났다.

공공도서관의 자료선정에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Selection Processes in Public Libraries)

  • 본 연구에서는 현재 국내 공공도서관 자료선정업무의 현황을 자료구입비 규모, 자료선정정책과 자료선정기준, 자료선정 담당 인력과 자료선정위원회, 자료선정방법과 자료선정도구 등의 카테고리로 나누어 살펴 본 다음 사서들의 자료선정업무에 대한 인식을 조사하였다. 이러한 현황을 바탕으로 효율적인 자료선정이 이루어질 수 있는 방안을 자료선정정책, 자료선정인력, 자료선정방법의 세 가지 측면으로 나누어 논의하였다. 자료선정업무현황 분석을 위한 데이터 수집은 국내 공립공공도서관 315개관을 대상으로 한 설문조사를 통하여 이루어졌다.
