  • This study applied the index called Visual Perception Intensity (VPI) which quantitatively deals with landscape values and viewpoints to designate the cultural heritage areas in the Scenic Sites. The results of the study are as follows. First, a VPI selection index was presented for designating the cultural heritage areas in the Scenic Sites. The index was applied in consideration of the distance from the viewing point to the object and its incident angle. In addition, the process of the VPI analysis was implemented with GIS and the analysis algorithm was constructed. Second, the possibility of VPI was examined by comparing the simple frequency of the cumulative visibility with the results of the VPI. The VPI was analyzed to be more influenced by the incidence angle than the distance between the viewpoint and the object within a 4.74 km area. Third, a field survey was performed to investigate the effectiveness of the VPI classification. The survey was implemented based on the results of the investigation into the VPI to examine whether human visual perception was fully reflected. It was confirmed through the field survey that an area with high VPI was also an important area. Fourth, a plan for the cultural heritage area adjustment was constructed by applying the VPI to the areas already designated as Scenic Sites. As a result of classifying the VPI into three classes, it was found that the areas with the second class or higher were needed to be designated as cultural heritage areas and the areas with the third class as the Historical and Cultural Environments Preservation Area.

  • This technical note describes the current status of Finnish radioactive waste disposal project which started to construct the repository for spent nuclear waste for the first time in the world. Finland started operating nuclear power plant in 1977 and is currently operating four nuclear power plants. After detailed site surveys started in 1993, Olkiluoto was finally selected by the parliament of Finland as the site for geological disposal in 2001 followed by a construction license in 2015. If the operating license is approved by the government in the 2020s, it would be the world's first case of geological disposal. In ONKALO, a site-specific underground research facility at the site of Olkiluoto, various studies were conducted to verify the safety of the repository. Finland uses the KBS-3 disposal concept, and Korea considers a similar disposal concept because of similar rock formations. The entire process in Finland including the operation status of intermediate and low-level waste disposal, site investigation and selection stages, and the latest rock mechanics and hydrogeological studies in ONKALO are presented. Suggestions for the radioactive waste disposal in Korea is given based on the Finnish case.

  • Aerodynamic configurations of bridge decks have significant effects on the aerostatic torsional divergence and flutter forsuper long-span bridges, which are onset for selection of suitable bridge decksfor those bridges. Based on a cable-stayed bridge with double main spans of 1500 m, considering typical twin-box, stiffening truss and closed-box section, which are the most commonly used form of bridge decks and assumed that the rigidity of those section is completely equivalent, are utilized to investigate the effects of aerodynamic configurations of bridge decks on aerodynamic instability performance comprised of the aerostatic torsional divergence and flutter, by means of wind tunnel tests and numerical calculations, including three-dimensional (3D) multimode flutter analysis and nonlinear aerostatic analysis. Regarding the aerostatic torsional divergence, the results obtained in this study show twin-box section is the best, closed-box section the second-best, and the stiffening truss section the worst. Regarding the flutter, the flutter stability of the twin-box section is far better than that of the stiffening truss and closed-box section. Furthermore, wind-resistance design depends on the torsional divergence for the twin-box and stiffening truss section. However, there are obvious competitive relationships between the aerostatic torsional divergence and flutter for the closed-box section. Flutter occur before aerostatic instability at initial attack angle of $+3^{\circ}$ and $0^{\circ}$, while the aerostatic torsional divergence occur before flutter at initial attack angle of $-3^{\circ}$. The twin-box section is the best in terms of both aerostatic and flutter stability among those bridge decks. Then mechanisms of aerostatic torsional divergence are revealed by tracking the cable forces synchronous with deformation of the bridge decksin the instability process. It was also found that the onset wind velocities of these bridge decks are very similar at attack angle of $-3^{\circ}$. This indicatesthat a stable triangular structure made up of the cable planes, the tower, and the bridge deck greatly improves the aerostatic stability of the structure, while the aerodynamic effects associated with the aerodynamic configurations of the bridge decks have little effects on the aerostatic stability at initial attack angle of $-3^{\circ}$. In addition, instability patterns of the bridge depend on both the initial attack angles and aerodynamic configurations of the bridge decks. This study is helpful in determining bridge decksfor super long-span bridges in future.

  • In construction, schedule management is the basic but important step, for the effective schedule management, the preparation of the reasonable schedule table should be prioritized. In the design stage, the optimal construction period can be selected through comparison of various conditions and construction methods considering weather conditions and site characteristics. But, At the planning phase, it is difficult to select the effective method and calculate the proper construction period by the basic data(D/B) analysis. In this paper, the construction method considering characteristics of each type and conditions of existing city was selected. For the reasonable duration calculation, we analyzed the unit schedule for RC method for open type and Shield TBM method for tunnel type. The normal project duration of construction assuming of 1,200m of extension and every 200m of ventilation was prepared by integrating each unit schedule. It was analyzed that it took 893 days for the open type and 616 days for the tunnel type. The results of this study will help to make type selection and normal project duration more easily in the planning phase. If it is linked to the design stage, it will be easy to estimate the process and construction cost.

  • Earthworms play an important role in soil fertilization, interacting continually with microorganisms. This study aims to demonstrate the existence of beneficial microorganisms living in the earthworm's immune system, the coelomic fluid. To achieve this goal, a molecular identification technique was performed, using cytochrome c oxidase I (COI) barcoding to identify abundant endogenic earthworms inhabiting the temperate zone of Rabat, Morocco. Then, 16S rDNA and ITS sequencing techniques were adopted for bacteria and fungi, respectively. Biochemical analysis, showed the ability of bacteria to produce characteristic enzymes and utilize substrates. Qualitative screening of plant growth-promoting traits, including nitrogen fixation, phosphate and potassium solubilization, and indole acetic acid (IAA) production, was also performed. The result of mitochondrial COI barcoding allowed the identification of the earthworm species Aporrectodea molleri. Phenotypic and genotypic studies of the sixteen isolated bacteria and the two isolated fungi showed that they belong to the Pseudomonas, Aeromonas, Bacillus, Buttiauxella, Enterobacter, Pantoea, and Raoultella, and the Penicillium genera, respectively. Most of the isolated bacteria in the coelomic fluid showed the ability to produce β-glucosidase, β-glucosaminidase, Glutamyl-β-naphthylamidase, and aminopeptidase enzymes, utilizing substrates like aliphatic thiol, sorbitol, and fatty acid ester. Furthermore, three bacteria were able to fix nitrogen, solubilize phosphate and potassium, and produce IAA. This initial study demonstrated that despite the immune property of earthworms' coelomic fluid, it harbors beneficial microorganisms. Thus, the presence of resistant microorganisms in the earthworm's immune system highlights a possible selection process at the coelomic fluid level.

  • The purpose of this study is by using the Grounded Theory method to examine the process of starting a business in an online shopping mall for young self-employed people with experience in using Company N's Partner Square (Gwangju), a startup infrastructure institution. In this study, in-depth interview survey data were used, and theoretical sampling method was used in the selection of study participants. After proceeding in the order of open coding, axis coding, and selective coding suggested by Strauss & Corbin, it was analyzed with a paradigm model. The main research results are as follows. First, even when parents were unaware about online shopping malls or had a negative mindset about it, but they had a positive mindset about their children's start-ups, it was found that their children tended to start online shopping mall businesses. However, if parents had a negative mindset about online shopping malls and about their children's start-up, then the child could not start an online shopping mall business. Second, it was found that the ability to use online shopping malls is important as a condition for entrepreneurship and achievement in online shopping malls for young people. In particular, Partner Square (Gwangju) was found to increase the ability to use online shopping malls and positively influence startups in online shopping malls. Third, it was found that young people have increased their self-esteem, discovering opportunities, and reinforcing their creativity, in addition to simply increasing their sales after starting the online shopping mall.

  • Energy management systems (EnMS) contribute to sustainable energy saving and greenhouse gas reduction by emphasizing the role of energy management in production-oriented economies. Although understanding the methods used to measure energy performance is a key factor in constructing successful EnMS, few attempts have been made to examine these methods, their applicability, and their utility in practice. To fill this research gap, this study aimed to deepen the understanding of energy performance measures by focusing on four energy performance indicators (EnPIs) proposed by ISO 50006, namely the measured energy value, ratio between measured values, linear regression model, and nonlinear regression model. This paper presents policy and managerial implications to facilitate the effective use of these measures. An analytic hierarchy process (AHP) analysis was conducted with 41 experts to analyze the preference for EnPIs and their key selection criteria by the industry sector, and organization and user type. The findings suggest that the most preferred EnPI is the ratio between the measured values followed by the measured energy value. The ease of use was considered to be most important while choosing EnPIs.

  • Traditional business intelligence (BI) systems have been used widely as tools for better decision-making on time. On the other hand, building a data warehouse (DW) for the efficient analysis of rapidly growing data is time-consuming and complex. In particular, the ETL (Extract, Transform, and Load) process required to build a data warehouse has become much more complex as the BI platform moves to a cloud environment. Various BI solutions based on the NoSQL database, such as MongoDB, have been proposed to overcome these ETL issues. Decision-makers want easy access to data without the help of IT departments or BI experts. Recently, self-service BI (SSBI) has emerged as a way to solve these BI issues. This paper proposes a self-service BI system with farming data using the MongoDB cloud as DW to support the selection of new crops by return-farmers. The proposed system includes functions to provide insights to decision-makers, including data visualization using MongoDB charts, reporting for advanced data search, and monitoring for real-time data analysis. Decision makers can access data directly in various ways and can analyze data in a self-service method using the functions of the proposed system.

  • The Calendar(曆法) has been a very important concern in every dynasty of history.『Hyupgiltongui』 written in the Joseon Dynasty included many contents related to the Calendar. In particular, the ancient rule of the Calendar(曆律) shown in the text of 『Hyupgiltongui』 Bonwon chapter one is meaningful in the process of creating the necessary Calendar for selection and reading fortune. Accordingly, we tried to analyze the rule of the Calendar(曆律) that is the fundamental principle of the Calandar(曆法) and the almanac which can be used in real life, based on comparative analysis of 『Hyupgibyeonbangseo』, 『Sanggiltongseo』 and 『Cheongidaeyo』, which are the basis of 『Hyupgiltongui』. Saju Myung-ri is the scheme of time change by the combination of Ganji (Celestial Stems). Therefore, the core of the calendar system is to make four pillars by the year, month, day, and time. For doing this, 『Hyupgiltongui』 provides basic principles and materials for making four pillars using constellations like 28 Fixed Stars, as well as does simple composition principle for telling fortune such as Ten Celestial Stems, Twelve Zodiac Signs, the order of four seasons(四序), Yukjin(六辰) and Sexagenary Cycle (甲曆). However, despite the limitations of the results produced by the rule of the Calendar(曆律), we came to the conclusion that if reading fortune in Saju(四柱簡明) is to find good one(吉) in terms of understanding it as the rule of predicting future(術法) not science, its usefulness cannot be ignored.

  • With an increasing trend toward high-rise modular construction, the simultaneous use of tower cranes at a modular construction site has recently been observed. Tower crane layout planning (TCLP) has a significant effect on cost, duration, safety and productivity of a project. In a modular construction project, particularly, poor decision about the layout of tower cranes is likely to have negative effects like additional employment of cranes and redesign, which will lead to additional costs and possible delays. It is, therefore, crucial to conduct thorough inspection of field conditions, lifting materials, tower crane capacity to make decisions on the layout of tower cranes. However, several challenges exist in planning for a multi-crane construction site in terms of safety and collaboration, which makes planning with experience and intuition complicated. This paper suggests a multi-objective optimization model for selection of the number of tower cranes, their models and locations, which minimizes cost and conflict. The proposed model contributes to the body of knowledge by showing the feasibility of using multi-objective optimization for TCLP decision-making process with consideration of trade-offs between cost and conflict.
