A Study on the Additional Train Scheduling Method (열차 증편방법에 관한 연구)

  • Additional train scheduling is often required to increase the capacity of transporting passengers or freight. In most previous studies on scheduling additional trains, operation time of the added train is designated first; and then the train operation feasibility is examined. However, it is often difficult to apply this approach to domestic trains because the density of the railroad network in Korea is high and various types of trains are in use. Moreover, for freight trains, it is even more challenging because the delay is accumulated due to lower priority whenever a freight train and a passenger train contend for a common segment of rail. In this paper, we address the additional train scheduling problem which entails finding a feasible schedule for an additional train having a fixed departure time or departure time windows. The problem is modeled as a mixed integer programming and a column generation technique is used to solve it.

Development of Real-Time Optimal Bus Scheduling Models (실시간 버스 운행계획수립 모형 개발)

  • Many studies on bus scheduling optimization have been done from the 1960s to recent years for establishing rational bus schedule plan that can improve convenience of bus passengers and minimize unnecessary runs. After 2000, as part of the Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS), the importance of the schedule management and providing schedule information through bus schedule optimization has become a big issue, and much research is being done to develop optimization models that will increase bus passenger convenience and, on the side of bus management, minimize unnecessary bus operation. The purpose of this study is to calculate the optimal bus frequency and create a timetable for each bus stop by applying DTR or DTRC model that use data for each bus stop and route segment. Model verification process was implemented using data collected from bus management system (BMS) and integrated transit-fare card system for bus route of Seoul's No. 472 line. In order to evaluate the reliability and uncertainty of optimal solution, sensitivity analysis was implemented for the various parameters and assumptions used in the bus scheduling model.

A P2P Based Tactical Information Sharing System for Mobile Nodes (P2P 기반의 모바일 노드간의 전술 정보 공유 시스템)

  • In NCW(Network Centric Warfare) environment, mobile nodes communicate through wireless link. But wireless link provides limited networking performance due to signal interferences or mobility of nodes. So it is quite challenge to acquire enough networking resources and use the resources efficiently. In this paper, we have proposed a P2P based tactical information sharing system which provides satisfactory visual information playout for mobile nodes(i.e., military personnel, vehicle,..) in NCW environment. Our proposed system consists of two components. One is caching-enabled switch which stores tactical information segments at its internal storage and then transports them to mobile nodes when require. Another is centralized scheduling algorithm which exploits networking resources more efficiently. To validate performance of proposed system, we performed series of experiments in wireless network testbed. Results show improved performance in terms of segment-missing ratio, networking resources usage, sharing time, and number of simultaneous playout mobile nodes with acceptable playout continuity(i.e., over 95%).

Design of Contact Scheduling System(CSS) for Customer Retention (고객유지를 위한 접촉스케줄링시스템의 설계)

  • Customer retention is one of the major issues in life insurance industry, in which competition is increasingly fierce. There are many things for the life insurers to do many things to retain the customers. One of those things is to make sure to keep in touch with all customers. When an insurance-planner resigned, his/her customers must be taken care of by some planner-assistants. This article outlines the design of Contact Scheduling System (CSS) that supports planner-assistants for contacting the customers. Planner-assistants are unable to share the resigned insurance-planner's experience and knowledge regarding the customer relationship management. The CSS developed by employing both Classification And Regression Tree (CART) technique and Sequential Pattern Mining (SPM) technique has a two-stage process. In the first stage, it segments the customers into eight groups by CART model. Then it generates contact scheduling information consisting of contact-purpose, contact-interval and contact-channel, according to the segment's typical contact pattern. Contact-purpose is derived by schedule-driven, event-driven, or business-rule-driven. Schedule-driven contact is determined by SPM model. In the operation of CSS in a realistic situation, it shows a practicality in supporting planner-assistants to keep in touch with the customers efficiently and effectively.

Segment Scheduling Scheme for Efficient Bandwidth Utilization of UHD Contents Streaming in HTTP Adaptive Streaming (HTTP 적응적 스트리밍에서 UHD 콘텐츠의 효율적인 대역폭 활용을 위한 세그먼트 전송 기법)

  • 최근 네트워크 기술과 스마트 단말의 보급으로 인해 비디오 스트리밍 서비스에 대한 수요가 증가하게 되었다. 네트워크를 효율적으로 사용하여 비디오 스트리밍 서비스를 제공하기 위해 적응적으로 전송률을 조절하는 HTTP (HyperText Transfer Protocol) 적응적 스트리밍 서비스가 주목 받게 되었다. UHD (Ultra High Definition) 콘텐츠는 HD (High Definition) 콘텐츠에 비해 적어도 4 배 이상의 크기를 갖기 때문에 끊김 없는 UHD 콘텐츠 스트리밍 서비스를 제공하기 위해서는 많은 가용 대역폭이 필요하다. 기존의 HTTP 적응적 스트리밍 방식은 정상 상태 (Steady State)에서 가용 대역폭보다 낮은 품질의 비디오 세그먼트를 일정 시간마다 주기적으로 요청하여 다운로드 받는다. 정상 상태에서는 가용 대역폭과 콘텐츠의 인코딩 율에 차이에 따라 On-Off 구간의 패턴이 반복되어 발생하고, 빈번한 Off 구간에 의해서 대역폭이 낭비되는 문제점이 있다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 HTTP 적응적 스트리밍에서 UHD 콘텐츠의 효율적인 대역폭 활용을 위한 세그먼트 전송 기법을 제안한다. 제안하는 기법은 Off 구간의 빈도수를 줄이기 위한 집단 세그먼트 전송 방식과 대역폭 낭비를 최소화 하기 위한 세그먼트 품질 조절기법으로 구성되어 있다.

Development of AI-based Mooring Lines Recognition to Check Mooring Time (선박 접/이안 상황 계선줄 인식을 위한 인공지능 모델 개발)

  • In this paper, in order to improve port work preparation and berth scheduling efficiency in an artificial intelligence-based berthing monitoring system that can monitor the ship's berthing process, we develop a mooring line recognition model to check an exact berthing time. By improving the pre-designed AI model, it is possible to segment the mooring line from the input image, and to recognize when the mooring line arrives or falls on the berth, thereby providing the correct ship's berthing time. The proposed AI model confirmed by the results that mooring line recognition is possible with evaluation data about the actual berthing situation.

  • In this paper, we propose a new optical switching system as a infrastructure of the BcN, in which the high traffic volume will be expected due to the multimedia service, like P2P services. Because the JET protocol, the most popular protocol in OBS (Optical Burst Switching) research area, has high blocking probability for burst, it prevents commercialization in real network for its low throughput in TCP layer. To improve high blocking rate in OBS network, we segment large network into small network and perform burst scheduling to avoid burst loss. By using proposed scheme, Internet provider can reduce network deployment cost in Metro network as well as large mesh core networks
