Unsteady components of the second-order axial velocity and temperature within a tapered pulse tube were obtained by using a novel hybrid method of solution which combines an analytical solution with a numerical solution. The effects of operating frequency, taper angle and cold eng temperature on the unsteady components of the second-order axial velocity and temperature were shown. The unsteady component of the second-order mass flux had the amplitude of the same order as the steady component when the velocities at the ends of the pulse tube have only first-order components.
Performance of first, second and third order accurate methods for calculation of in viscid fluxes in fluid flow governing equations are investigated here. For the purpose, an upwind method based on Roe's scheme is used to solve 2-dimensional Euler equations. To increase the accuracy of the method two different schemes are applied. The first one is a second and third order upwind-based algorithm with the MUSCL extrapolation Van Leer (1979), based on primitive variables. The other one is an upwind-based algorithm with the Chakravarthy extrapolation to the fluxes of mass, momentum and energy. The results show that the thickness of shock layer in the third order accuracy is less than its value in second order. Moreover, applying limiter eliminates the oscillations near the shock while increases the thickness of shock layer especially in MUSCL method using Van Albada limiter.
We introduce and discuss a new numerical method for solving system of second order boundary value problems, where the solution is required to satisfy some extra continuity conditions on the subintervals in addition to the usual boundary conditions. We show that the present method gives approximations which are better than that produced by other collocation, finite difference and spline methods. Numerical example is presented to illustrate the applicability of the new method. AMS Mathematics Subject Classification : 65L12, 49J40.
In this paper we use uniform cubic spline polynomials to derive some new consistency relations. These relations are then used to develop a numerical method for computing smooth approxi-mations to the solution and its first second as well as third derivatives for a second order boundary value problem. The proesent method out-performs other collocations finite-difference and splines methods of the same order. numerical illustratiosn are provided to demonstrate the practical use of our method.

We propose a projection-based analysis of a new hybridizable discontinuous Gale-rkin method for second order elliptic equations. The method is more advantageous than the standard HDG method in a sense that the new method has higher-order accuracy and lower computational cost, and is more flexible. Notable distinctions of our new method, when compared to the standard HDG emthod, are that our method uses $L^2$-projection and suitable stabilization parameter depending on a mesh size for superconvergence. We show that the error for the solution of the equation converges with order p + 2 when we only use polynomials of degree p + 1 as a finite element space without postprocessing. After establishing the theory, we carry out numerical tests to demonstrate and ensure that the proposed method is effective and accurate in practice.
Image processings using the two-dimensional wavelet transform (2DWT) have been a very active research area in recent years because the 2DWT possess many good properties. However, the discrete 2DWT can not be used for pattern recognition directly because it does not have the translation property. In this paper, we show why conventional discrete two-dimensional wavelet transforms cannot be used for pattern recognitions directly. Then, we propose a new method that makes it possible to use discrete 2DWT to pattern recognition without modification of standard pyramidal algorithms. The main idea of our method is to postprocess the wavelet transformed images using the second-order neural network. To justify the validity of the method, evaluations with test images were performed. The effectiveness of the method can be shown by the evaluation results.
In this paper we consider the second order generalized difference scheme for the two-point boundary value problem and ob-tain optimal order error estimates in $L^\infty$ and $W^{1,\infty}$ The results in this paper perfect the theory of the second order generalized difference method.
This short article compares different solution methods for a basic RBC model (Hansen, 1985). We solve and simulate the model using two main algorithms: the methods of perturbation and projection, respectively. One novelty is that we offer a type of the hybrid method: we compute easily a second-order approximation to decision rules and use that approximation as an initial guess for finding Chebyshev polynomials. We also find that the second-order perturbation method is most competitive in terms of accuracy for standard RBC model.
Using the axial Green's function method for Steady Stokes flows, we introduce a new pressure correction formula to satisfy the incompressibility condition, in which the pressure is related to the integral of the second order derivatives of the velocity. Based on this formula, we propose the iterative method for solving the Stokes flows in complicated domains. Even if the domain is complex, this method maintains the second order of convergence for the velocity.
