  • Maximum likelihood(ML) diretion-of-arrival(DOA) estimation is essentially optimization of multivariable nonlinear cost function. Since the final estimate is highly dependent on the initial estimate, an initialization is critical in nonlinear optimization. We propose a multi-dimensional(M-D) search scheme of uniform exhaustive search and improved exhaustive search. Improved exhaustive search is superior to uniform exhaustive search in terms of the computational complexity and the accuracy of the estimates.

  • As the usage of internet is increasing, a lot of user behavior are written in a log file and the researches and industries using the log files are getting activated recently. This paper uses the Hadoop based on open source distributed computing platform and proposes a customized tourism system by analyzing user behaviors in the log files. The proposed system uses Google Analytics to get user's log files from the website that users visit, and stores search terms extracted by MapReduce to HDFS. Also it gathers features about the sight-seeing places or cities which travelers want to tour from travel guide websites by Octopus application. It suggests the customized cities by matching the search terms and city features. NBP(next bit permutation) algorithm to rearrange the search terms and city features is used to increase the probability of matching. Some customized cities are suggested by analyzing log files for 39 users to show the performance of the proposed system.

  • In this paper, a user search history based potential query recommendation system is proposed to enable the user of information search system to represent one's potential desire for information in terms of query and to facilitate the desired information to be searched. The proposed system has analyzed the association with the existing users's search histories based on the users' search query, and it has extracted the users's potential desire for information. The extracted potential desire for information is represented in terms of recommended query and thereby made recommendations to users. In order to analyze the effectiveness of the system proposed in this paper, we conducted behavioral experiments by using search histories of 27656. As a result of behavioral experiments, the experiment subjects were found to show a statistically significant higher level of satisfaction when using the proposed system as compared to using general search engines.

  • Recognizing a tremendous increase in the Internet users and popularity of E-learning through the Internet, this study attempted to analyze interactive financial education web sites for children. Using meta search engines and major search engines, interactive financial education web sites identified based on the three criteria and analyzed in terms of the appropriateness for specific age groups, the coverage of contents related to the basic knowledge for financial literacy, and the interactive activities. The results showed that financial education web sites for children were needed to be improved in terms of both quantity and quality. The study also provides a guideline how to search for an appropriate financial education web sites for children when parents want teach about money to their children.

  • Many users want to add some their own information to data which was on the web and computer without actually needing to touch data. In remote sensing, the result data for image classification consist of image and text file in general. To overcome these inconvenience problems, we suggest the annotation method using XML language. We give the efficient annotation method which can be applied to web and viewing of image classification. We can apply the annotation for web and image classification with image and text file. The need for thesaurus construction is the lack of information for remote sensing and GIS on search engine like Empas, Naver and Google. In search engine, we can’t search the information for word which has many different names simultaneously. We select the remote sensing data from different sources and make the relation between many terms. For this process, we analyze the meaning for different terms which has similar meaning.

  • This study compared whether there are significant differences of searching characteristics between the subject specialists and professional searchers in education in terms of internet search engines. The major findings and conclusions from the study are as follows. Subject specialists used more search terms and Boolean operators and spent more times on the computers than professional searchers. However, professional searchers retrieved more relevant documents and had higher precision ratios than subject specialists.

  • SNOMED CT, which is a standard clinical terminology, imposes an ambiguity problem of terminology selections caused by its huge expressive power and structural complexity. It is very difficult to distinguish similar terms and to select an appropriate term among them within short consultation hours. This paper analyzes the ambiguity problem and proposes a novel scheme for comparative search of similar terms. The proposed scheme provides a differential view of similar terms by defining a "is-not-a" relationship based on the hierarchical structure of the concepts. The result of this work improves the utilization of SNOMED CT such that medical officers can efficiently select an appropriate term among similar terms which represents patient's status adequately.

  • This research suggests the method of standardizing terms for raising the effectiveness of information retrieval. Especially for web search, I propose the proper terms which they will use in retrieval by surveying and analysing the related terms about information retrieval interface. The proper terms will solve the equivocation for user increase the effectiveness. And I think the proposed terms will be used to standard data for designers who are construct the user interface systems.

  • This study is an attempt to furnish some helpful data for the maximum use of online information retrieval systems based on the comparative analysis of commands and operating terms employed by DIALOG, ORBIT and BRS which are three largest information retrieval systems in the world. To begin with, the historical development, service contents and retrieval functions of three systems were overviewed in the second chapter, on the basis of which the concrete functions and contents of the commands and the operating terms of the three systems were compared and analyzed one another. Commands were explained divided into basic and special ones. The basic commands subdivided into 44 items were put into the form of a diagram(Table 1). The special commands were first subdivided into search commnad, output-related commands and su n.0, pplementary commands, and then 14 items of which were comparatively analyzed and were represented as a chart(Table 2). In addition, any stand-alone commands employed by each system were also analyzed as a chart(Table 3). The Operating terms other than commands were subdivided into 16 items and were represented as a chart(Table 4). Password, inverted file, search step number in search session, etc were explained to the very detailed extent. A self-evident, single word is that the through understanding of commands is essential to the maximm use of all the functions of each of three systems.

  • In this study, a retrieval system taking advantage of term relationship in a specific domain and also of evidential reasoning as tools for measuring relevance is implemented. For this experiment, techincal memoranda documented in Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) served as a sample document file. Sample knowledge base was prepared by extracting terms and term relations pertaining to telecommunications from INSPEC thesaurus. Relations between terms were represented by numerical values according to types of term relations. Relationship between a query and a document was measured according to Dempster-Shafer theory of evidence. As a result of this experiment, a more comprehensive search was made by expanding search terms utilizing term relations. Measure of relevance represented by reflecting term relations, and search results were listed in a descending order of relevance.
