Background: This study aimed to explore the overall perception of pit and fissure sealants and suggest methods to revitalize their current stagnation. Methods: To determine the social perception of the change in coverage policy for pit and fissure sealants, we categorized them into five time periods. The first period (December 1, 2009 to November 30, 2010), the second period (December 1, 2010 to September 30, 2012), the third period (October 1, 2012 to May 5, 2013), the fourth period (May 6, 2013 to September 30, 2017), and the fifth period (October 1, 2017 to December 31, 2022). We utilized text mining, an unstructured big data analysis method. Keywords were collected and analyzed using Textom, and the frequency analysis of the top 30 keywords, structural features of the semantic network, centrality analysis, QAP correlation analysis, and co-occurrence analysis were conducted. Results: The frequency analysis showed that the top keywords for each time period were 'Cavities', 'Treatment', and 'Children'. In the structural features of the semantic network of pit and fissure sealants by time period, the density index was found to be around 1.00 for all time periods. The QAP correlation analysis showed the highest correlation between the first and second periods and the fourth and fifth periods with a correlation coefficient of 0.834. The co-occurrence analysis showed that 'cavities' and 'prevention were the top two words across all time periods. Conclusion: This study showed that pit and fissure sealants are well accepted by the society as a preventive treatment for caries. However, the awareness of health education related to these sealants was found to be low. Efforts to revitalize stagnant pit and fissure sealants need to be strengthened with effective education.
Rheological properties of polyamide-modified poly(vinyl choride) (PVC)-sol sealants were investigated. PVC-sol was prepared by plasticization with dioctyl phthalate(DOP). Two kinds of polyamide rosins having different amino values and thus different viscosities were compared. The effects of the polyamide types and contents on the viscosities, thixotropic indices, and specific gravities of the PVC-sol were discussed. It was found that viscosities of the PVC-sol sealants were significantly affected by the types of the added polyamide resins, and the thixotropic index of the polyamide-modified PVC-sol sealant was observed to be dependent on the contents(not on the types of the polyamides). The viscosity behaviors of the polyamide-modified PVC-sol sealants aged at $45^{\circ}C$ and the effect of the addition of $CaCO_3$ were also discussed.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the remineralization effects of fluoride-containing sealant on the artificially created enamel carious lesions. The fluoride release from the specimen of fluoride-containing sealants, the effect on enamel acid solubility and micro-hardness from the experimental sealants when applied to carious enamel surfaces were investigated. The obtained results were as follows; 1. Fluoride was a rapid rate of release during the first day, with the amount diminishing with time. The amount of fluoride released from Fuji Ionomer type III was higher than that from Teethmate-F and Helioseal-F during the 28 days of immersion(P<0.05). 2. The enamel solubility of carious enamel surface was higher than that in the Teethmate-F, Helioseal-F, and Fuji Ionomer type III (P<0.05), and there was no significant difference with Teethmate-A and Helioseal(P>0.05). 3. The microhardness value of carious enamel surface was lowest. However, there was no significant difference between the other sealants with respect to their effects on enamel hardness(P>0.05).

In this study, the tensile properties of sealants by heat deterioration were measured and analysed to gather the basic data of sealant because these studies do not have been investigated in Korea. Most general one-component silicone sealants were used and test specimen was I-type. The test parameters are sealant types which have different density and heat deterioration time in 80℃. As a result, the rat of reduction in area by heat deterioration was considerable increased at SR-A compared with SR-B. The tensile properties by heat deterioration decreased at SR-A because the specimen by deterioration occurred adhesive failure before tensile test. However, SR-B specimen was increased at maximum tensile stress but decreased at elongation in maximum tensile stress. Also, Maximum principal stress was measured at the edge of specimen by FEM simulation in order to find out failure points.
Cracking is an inevitable fact of asphalt concrete pavements and plays a major role in pavement deterioration. Pavement cracking is one of the main factors determining the frequency and method of repair. Cracks can be treated with a number of preventative maintenance actions, including overlay surface treatments such as slurry sealing, crack sealing, or crack filling. Pavement cracks can show up as one or all of the following types: transverse, longitudinal, fatigue, block, reflective, edge, and slippage. Crack sealing is a frequently used pavement maintenance treatment because it significantly extends the pavement service life. However, crack sealant often fails prematurely due to a loss of adhesion. Because current test methods are mostly empirical and only provide a qualitative measure of the bond strength, they cannot accurately predict the adhesive failure of the sealant. This study introduces a laboratory test aimed at assessing the bonding of hot-poured crack sealant to the walls of pavement cracks. A pneumatic adhesion tensile testing instrument (PATTI) was adopted to measure the bonding strength of the hot-poured crack sealant as a function of the curing time and temperature. Based on a limited number of test results, the hot-poured crack sealants have very different bonding performances. Therefore, this test method can be proposed as part of a newly developed performance-based standard specification for hot-poured crack sealants for use in the future. PURPOSES : The purpose of this study was to evaluate both the adhesion and failure performance of a crack sealant as a function of its curing time and curing temperature. METHODS: A pneumatic adhesion tensile testing instrument (PATTI) was adopted to measure the adhesion performance of a crack sealant as a function of the curing time and curing temperature. RESULTS: With changes in the curing time, curing temperature, and sealant type, the bond strengths were found to be significantly different. Also, higher bond strengths were measured at lower temperatures. Different sealant types produced completely different bond strengths and failure behaviors. CONCLUSIONS: The bonding strength of an evaluated crack sealant was shown to differ depending on various factors. Two sealant types, which were composed of different raw materials, were shown to perform differently. The newly proposed test offers the possibility of evaluating and differentiating between different crack sealants. Based on alimited number of test results, this test method can be proposed as part of a newly developed performance-based standard specification for crack sealants or as part of a guideline for the selection of hot-poured crack sealant in the future.

The aim of this study was to identify and quantify the major or detectable monomers released from any of five commercially-available, light-cured pit and fissure sealants with three different light sources : conventional halogen light curing unit, plasma arc light curing unit and LED curing unit. After curing, specimens were immediately immersed in distilled water for different time intervals. The time related release of monomers were analyzed by high performance liquid chromatography(HPLC). Identification and quantitative analysis of monomers were performed by the comparison of the elution time and the absorption peak height of the eluates with those of the authentic sample. The result of this study can be summarized as follows. 1. Standard solution peaks with retention times of 2.3, 3.2, 5.6, 6.5, 10.4 minutes were identified as BPA, TEGDMA, UDMA, Bis-GMA, Bis-DMA, respectively. 2. None of the chromatograms of the tested sealants displayed peaks with the same retention time as that of the standard solution, except for TEGDMA. 3. The highest release rate of TEGDMA was observed during the 12hr period for all samples and declined thereafter. 4. The elution of TEGDMA from curing with Halogen curing unit for 20 second and LED for 10 second was less than that resulting from curing with Plasma arc for 3 second. 5. TEGDMA was detected at much lower levels in eluates from the Pit & Fissure $Sealant^{TM}$ than other sealants. The elution of TEGDMA from the $Helioseal^{(R)}$ F cured with Halogen light curing unit, the $Concise^{TM}$ cured with Plasma arc curing unit and the $Teethmate^{(R)}$ F-1 cured with LED curing unit were higher than other sealants.

In this study, we has a purpose to estimate the joint movement responsiveness performance for the domestic products of one-component structural silicon sealants. For this purpose, we make a comparative study for the four domestic products focused on tensile properties after allowed the cyclic-movements for three days at initial step of curing phase. A joint movement range ±10% and the rate of compression and extension 3.2mm/h were assumed in those tests. As a result, the large space were induced inside the sealant by rupture, and then adhesion and cohesion failures were caused by stress concentration. The tensile properties were reduced by 15~60% in comparison with physical properties. In this case, the generating defect was caused and the service-life was decreased. Thus, further researches as relationship of test condition and products properties on this behavior would be studied.

PURPOSES: The objectives of this study are to develop a new cold-applied crack sealant and to evaluate its properties and field applicability by comparing with other conventionally used crack sealants. METHODS : A new cold-applied crack sealant was developed by using neoprene latex to improve material properties. The fundamental properties such as viscosity, residue %, penetration, and softening point of the developed crack sealant were tested by TxDOT criteria to evaluate crack sealing capability. Moreover, the performance of the developed cold-applied crack sealant was evaluated under both laboratory and field conditions. In the laboratory, the bond property was evaluated using the developed cold-applied crack sealant and conventional hot-applied crack sealant by the bond-properties test standardized under ASTM D 6690. In the field, test sections were constructed on three areas: a trunk road, bus-only lane, and motorway, with the developed crack sealant and three conventional crack sealants. After construction, early field-inspection was performed on the test sections. RESULTS AND CONCLUSIONS : Overall, the developed cold-applied crack sealant demonstrates reasonable storage stability, durability, and bond property compared to conventional hot-applied crack sealants. From the test sections, it was established that the developed cold-applied crack sealant does not pose construction issues. Moreover, the early performance was verified through field inspection. However, as the field inspection was conducted a week after the construction, it is necessary to conduct an inspection of performance from a long-term point of view.

Pit and fissure sealants has been proven as safe and effective method of caries prevention. But improper application of pit and fissure sealant may masking the caries process in occlusal fissure. Dentists have to understand the correct and exact application method of pit and fissure sealant for he good result of caries prevention. A key factor to enhanced the effectiveness of caries prevention is retention of pit and fissure sealant. Deep penetration of material into fissure and least marginal leakage around the fissure orifice are the major concerns for dentists to achieve the successive application of pit and fissure sealants. This paper reviewed the literature on the pit and fissure sealants under the following subtitles for enhanced retention : (1) application timing, (2) Indication, (3) Occlusal prophylaxis, (4) Materials, (5) Penetration, (5) Recall check Dental profession must perform the exact application of pit and fissure sealant because this procedure is one of the most technique-sensitive one in dental field.
