  • This paper describes screw tool design and machining method witch is able to design tool profile and 3-dimensional geometry for screws in self-wiping co-rotating twin screw extruder. The geometric features of screws for co-rotating twin screw extruders are developed from kinematic principles. Closely self-wiping screw segments are manufactured in universal milling machine by using designed screw tools. It is shown that experimental results verified the closely intermeshing condition in twin screw.

  • Twin screw extruders are the heart of the polymer processing industry. The single most important mechanical element of a screw extruder is the screw. The proper design of the geometry of the excluder screw is of crucial importance to the proper functioning of the extruder. If material transport instabilities occur as a result of improper screw geometry, even the most sophisticated computerized control system cannot solve the problem. For this purpose, Tool shape design for the screw flights cutting in twin screw extruder.

  • This study suggests a small-sized screw decanter specialized for dredging sites. Generally, conventional screw decanters are composed of a cylinder and a cone. However, the suggested screw decanter simply has a cone based on a cone-type bowl structure. In this research, a commercial analysis tool is used to establish an optimal design for the bowl and the screw conveyor. Moreover, the base frame, where the main bearings that support the spindle of the bowl and the screw conveyor are installed, is optimally designed considering the weight of the rotating body and the deflection caused by the high centrifugal force. Furthermore, the natural frequency range of the spinning body, the bowl and the screw conveyor, is applied to this base frame; it is designed not to correspond to the resonance frequency range and achieves stability as a result. This study suggests an optimal design for the rotating body and the base frame of a screw decanter considering its vibration characteristics. Such a design will prevent overuse of materials and help to reduce the weight and volume-and the price-of a screw decanter.

  • Recently a symmetric and non-symmetric profile of screw rotor has been designed in the interior. Howere the processing method of screw rotor and the cutter design for screw rotor were not studied. Therefor we could not make the shape of the screw rotor designed by profile function with computer. In this study we have made cutter profile design program and manufactured cutters for screw rotors using H.S.S We machined screw rotors of symmetric 4x6 profile non-sysmmetric 4x6 profile with almighty milling machine.

  • In order to prevent machine tool feed slide system from transient vibrations during operations, machine tool designers usually adopt some typical design solutions; box-in-box typed feed slides, optimizing moving body for minimum weight and dynamic compliance, and so on. Despite all efforts for optimizing design, a feed drive system may experience severe transient vibrations during high-speed operation if its feed rate control is unsuitable. A rough feed rate curve having discontinuity in its acceleration profile causes a serious vibration problem in the feed slides system. This paper presents a feed rate optimization of a ball screw driven machine tool feed slide system for its minimum vibration. Firstly, a ball screw feed drive system was mathematically modeled as a 6-degree-of-freedom lumped parameter system. Next, a feed rate optimization of the system was carried out for minimum vibrations. The main idea of the feed rate optimization is to find out the most appropriate smooth acceleration profile with jerk continuity. A genetic algorithm was used in this feed rate optimization

  • Single screw compressors are widely used in the fields of air/gas compression, refrigeration, and chemical fluid transportation systems. A single-screw compressor is composed of a screw rotor and two gate rotors located at both sides. This simple construction enables low rotational speed of the rotor, efficient compression with low noise, low vibration, and long bearing life. Despite these merits, the design method of single-screw compressors is not well known. To accelerate the industrial application of single-screw compressors, a design method using coordinate transformation is presented in this paper, and a tool trajectory is established for machining. Finally, the screw rotor, which is machined using the proposed method, is presented.

  • Screw conveyors are used extensively in industrial for conveying and elevating materials. Despite their apparent simplicity, the mechanics of the conveying action is very complex. so many engineers depend on experiential data. Capacities of screw are pumping, steady flow of polymer melts, steady volumetric throughput etc. they are affected by geometry of screw, heat flux, pressure on inside barrel, rotating velocity, friction coefficient at screw surface etc. by computation volumetric efficiency increases as rotating velocity increases and decreases as friction coefficient increases. also it decreases with short pitch length. and double flight screw is more effective than single flight screw. The temperature of polymer melts by heating pad and injection pressure play a very important role in the injection molding machine. so in this paper we analyze thermal distortion and stress of screw includes pressure and temperature distributions by finite element analysis to understand what design factors influence on volumetric throughput efficiency of the screw and thermo-mechanical characteristics of screw.

  • The CAD system which enables to design and draw the screw thread gauges was developed and constructed. This system was proposed based on Visual C++ Version 5.0. Even beginner can get drawings as well as concerned data for the manufacturing of screw thread limit gauges by selecting the input data. This system was constructed from relevant standards and regulations (based on the Korean Standard and referred to ISO and JIS), handbooks and textbooks. The system shall provide more powerful and user friendly tool for design and drawing for screw thread gauges such as metric fine and coarse threads, unified fine and coarse threads, Parallel and taper pipe threads. The results of this system are proved to be in good agreement with concerned standards and regulations.

  • In the area of assembly process of micro-chips and electronic parts on the printed circuit board, surface mounting device(SMD) is used as a fundamental tool. Generally speaking, the motion of the SMD is based on the ball screw system operated by any type of actuators. The ball screw system is a mechanical transformer which converts the mechanical rotational motion to the translational one. Also, this system could be considered as an efficient motion device against mechanical backash and friction. Therefore a dynamic modeling and stste sensitivity analysis of the ball screw system in SMD have to be done in the initial design stage. In this paper, a simple mathematical dynamic model for this system and the sensitivity snalysis are mentioned. Especially, the bond graph approach is used for graphical modeling of the dynamic system before analysis stage. And the direct differentiation method is used for the state sensitivity analysis of the system. Finally, some trends for the state variables with respect to the design variables could be suggested for the better design based on the results on the results of dynamic and state sensitivity.
