This study was conducted to examine effects of the spiritual care education program on self esteem, communication, existential well-being and spiritual care competence in nurses. A non-equivalent control group, non-synchronized with pre-posttest design was used. The participants were 63 nurses(30 in an experimental group and 33 in a control group)attending a bachelor program of C Colledge in G metropolitan city. The experimental group attended 7 sessions of a SCE(Spiritual Care Education) program. Sessions were 90 minutes each, held once per week for 7 weeks. The scores for self-esteem, communication, existential well-being and spiritual care competence were measured before and after the treatment. Data were collected between October 10 and December 5, 2017 in an experimental group, April 24 and June 5, 2018 in a control group. Data were analyzed using Chi-square, Fisher's exact test, independent t-test using SPSS/WIN 21.0. The existential well-being(p<.025) and spiritual care competence(p<.001) were significantly increase in the experimental group compared to the control group after the intervention. Results suggest that this SCE program could be effective in increasing the existential well-being and spiritual care competence of nurses.

Objectives: Parkinson's disease is the neurodegenerative disease that affects both motor and non-motor function, including postural instability. Camptocormia is an abnormal condition in which the thoracolumbar spine bends forward during walking or standing. However, the treatment options are limited and often not effective. The purpose of this study was to report on the Korean medical treatment of a Parkinson's disease patient with postural instability who presented with camptocormia. Methods: We used Korean medical treatment including herbal medicine (Jemageopung-tang), acupuncture and pharmacopuncture therapy to the patient who was admitted to the hospital for 21 days. The clinical symptoms were assessed with the Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale (UPDRS) and walking time without assistance. Results: After treatment, the UPDRS Parts 2 and 3 scores were decreased from 5 to 3 and 20 to 9, respectively. Also, the walking time without assistance was improved. Conclusion: This study suggested that Korean medical treatment could be an effective option for treating Parkinson's disease with postural instability.
This study examined the effects of STEAM program on preservice science teachers' communication competency and further explored their experiences of and reflection on STEAM program. The study design is one group pretest-posttest with mixed methodology using both quantitative and qualitative data. The STEAM program consists of three stages: introduction of STEAM, participation in STEAM activities, and reflection on the STEAM program. The preservice science teachers improved their communication competency after the STEAM program (p < .01). The preservice science teachers represented statistically higher scores on the three subscales of communication competency: Interpretation ability, self-presenting ability, and understanding others' viewpoints. In addition, the preservice science teachers reflected on their STEAM experiences. During the first stage of 'Presentation of the Problem Situation,' the preservice science teachers mentioned that they roused their curiosity due to everyday experience-related, social issues or present issues. In the stage of 'Creative Design,' the preservice science teachers mentioned that they selected the final idea through mutual consent of the members, the practical possibility of everyday life, the previous experience-based decisions, or persuasive power. Further, about 87.5% of preservice science teachers mentioned that they were fully engaged in the 'Emotional Learning' stages due to the application of integrated thinking, everyday related issues, and communication among group members. About 85% of the preservice science teachers mentioned that they could challenge new problems in future situations.

This study was conducted to investigate the factors influencing the contraceptive behavior of male and female university students. Data were collected after receiving the written consent of 238 university students in G city during the period from September 22 to November 23 in 2017. Data analysis was performed using the SPSS PASW 18.0 program. The results revealed that 56.7% of the subjects used contraceptives, and 23.9% used condoms. Male students were more exposed to sexual content than female students (t=6.02, p=0.000) and had an open sexual attitude (t=5.38, p=0.000). Female students showed high scores on subjective norms (t=-3.51 p=0.000) and acceptable and positive contraceptive attitudes (t=-4.21, p=0.000). Among factors influencing the contraceptive attitude of males, the subjective norm was 3.6%. Female students had a 25.5% influence on contraceptive attitude, contraception, sexual education frequency, and sexual content exposure. It is suggested that sexual education and sexual counseling programs be developed to form positive attitudes toward contraceptives through iterative research.

This study was conducted to investigate the effects of therapeutic climbing training on upper limb function and quality of life of stroke patients and to suggest possibilities for clinical intervention. This study investigated 14 stroke patients who were assigned to either a treatment climbing training group or a control group (n=7 each). The experimental groups performed general physical therapy and occupational therapy. In addition, therapeutic climbing training using the Potsdam model was conducted for 30 minutes three times a week for 6 weeks. The control group performed general physical therapy and occupational therapy. A manual function test was used to evaluate upper limb function, and a short form 36-item questionnaire was used to evaluate quality of life. The results showed that there was a significant difference in upper limb function of the experimental group according to time (p<0.05). There was also a significant difference in the quality of life according to time in the experimental group, and a significant difference in quality of life between the experimental group and the control group (p<0.05). Therapeutic climbing training by stroke patients positively affected quality of life by increasing the SF-36 scores and upper limb function. Taken together, these findings confirmed that training using therapeutic climbing is valuable for rehabilitation and clinical intervention of stroke patients.
Purpose: This study provides a treatment for central nervous system development in patients with chronic stroke by investigating changes in the upper limb function over time. The correlations among the activities, participation, and environmental factors of the international classification of functioning (ICF), disability and health are also examined. Methods: The subjects of this study are 18 patients with chronic stroke who were hospitalized and treated at 00 hospital in the Chungcheongbuk-do province. Their upper extremity functions are evaluated using the manual function test (MFT). The activities, participation, and environmental factors are evaluated using the ICF generic form. The correlations between the total scores of the affected and unaffected sides and the ICF items are analyzed using the Pearson correlation analysis. The significance level is p<0.05. Results: When the correlations between the activities and participation areas of ICF and the total score of the affected side of MFT were examined, significant correlations (p<0.05) were found in the following items: changing basic body position (D410), lifting and carrying objects (D430), moving around using equipment (D465), using transportation (D470), washing oneself (D510), caring for body parts (D520), and dressing (D540). When the correlations between the activities and participation areas of ICF and the total score of the unaffected side of MFT were examined, significant correlations (p<0.05) were found among writing (D170), speaking (D330), eating (D550), and drinking (D560). In addition, when the correlation between the environment area of ICF and the total score of the unaffected side of the MFT were examined, significant correlations (p<0.05) were found between products and technology for personal use in daily living (E115) and immediate family (E310). Conclusion: The MFT of patients with chronic stroke is closely correlated with the activities, participation, and environmental factors of ICF. This result suggests that ICF can be used as a useful tool to comprehensively evaluate the abilities of the patient, including the upper extremity function.

This descriptive survey was conducted to explore the effects of work engagement and its associated factors among general hospital nurses. Nurses working in general hospitals were recruited in D city and K region. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson's correlations, and stepwise multiple regression using IBM SPSS 25. The mean score of work engagement of the subjects was 3.08. The mean scores of emotional modulation effects in profession, patient focused emotional suppression, and emotional pretense by norms which are subgroups of emotional labor by norms were 3.82, 3.28, and 3.22, respectively, while that of the nursing work environment was 2.59. Work engagement was significantly positively correlated with emotional modulation effects in profession (r=0.30, p=0.001), patient-focused emotional suppression (r=0.20, p=0.030), and nursing work environment (r=0.21, p=0.024). The results showed that the factors that affect the work engagement were age, current position, and emotional modulation effects in profession, which explained 20% of the variance in work engagement (F=10.37, p<0.001). Therefore, to establish strategies for improving the level of work engagement, it is necessary to consider age and current positions of nurses and to develop a nursing intervention program to strengthen emotional modulation effects among general hospital nurses.

This study was conducted to identify the effects of baby care using dolls on nursing students' contraceptive attitude, sexual attitude, and recognition of unmarried mothers. A quasi-experimental nonequivalent control group, pretest-posttest design was used. The subjects of the study were 104 nursing college students who agreed to participate. The control group (n=52) received lecture sex education while the experimental group (n=52) received lecture sex education and baby care education using a doll. The contraceptive attitude, sexual attitude, and unmarried mother's recognition were then examined. Data were collected from September to December, 2017 and analyzed using descriptive statistics, ${\chi}^2$-tests, and t-tests with the SPSS/WIN 21.0 program. The scores of contraceptive attitude differed significantly between the experimental group and the control group (t=4.66, p=<0.001). Additionally, the sexual attitude score of the experimental group was lower than that of the control group (t=-2.23, p=0.028), with pleasure playfulness showing a significant decrease (F=3.96, p=<0.001). However, recognition of unmarried mothers did not differ significantly between groups (t=-0.08, p=0.937). Overall, the results showed that baby care using a doll has positive effects on contraceptive attitude and sexual attitude. In the future, effective sex education should include methods that complement lectures.
