This study identified concepts of heat and temperature. The study was conducted by 200 pre-service elementary school teachers at J-university. The questionnaire consisted of 11 multiple choice questions regarding equilibrium of heat, amount of heat, conduction, and radiation. The questions were designed to provide reasons based on answers. The results showed a misconception about the direction of heat transfer. A large percentage of individuals surveyed believed temperature was a measure of heat and also thought heat to be an element. They were not able to distinguish between conceptions of heat and conceptions of temperature.

본 연구의 목적은 한국과 미국에서의 초임 과학 교사 전문성 발달에 영향을 미치는 주요 요인을 비교? 분석하는 것이다. 참여교사는 한국 수도권 지역과 미국 중서부지역에서의 초임 과학 중등교사 각각 네 명이다. 자료는 수업관찰 및 녹화, 반구조화된 면담을 통해 수집하였으며, 수업맥락을 이해하기 위한 수업관련 자료와 학생 활동 자료도 같이 수집하였다. 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 공통적으로 전문성 발달에 영향을 미치는 요인은 추구하는 교사상과 평가, 시험대비와 같은 학교 맥락이었다. 또한 한국 초임 교사들에게는 과학교과서와 행정적인 업무와 같은 맥락적인 요인이 전문성 발달에 영향을 미친 반면, 미국 초임교사들은 교생실습에서의 멘터 교사의 영향을 많이 받았다. 둘째, 참여교사들이 공통적으로 느낀 어려움이나 관심은 수업 관리와 교과 내용지식을 넓히는 것이었다. 셋째, 모든 참여교사들은 전문성 발달을 위해 많은 노력을 하고 있었으며, 추구하는 교사상이 현재와 미래의 교수실천에 중요한 역할을 하고 있었다. 넷째, 미국 참여교사들은 교생실습 때의 멘터 교사에 크게 영향을 받는 반면, 한국 참여교사들은 멘터 교사보다는 다른 여러 가지 요인들에 의해 영향을 받은 것으로 나타났다.

The study is to suggest the roles of school library professionals upon changes of school libraries according to the 7th Korean Educational Curriculum. With this purpose, it investigates the policies and current status of allocations of school library professionals, and the interview of non-regular librarian about works. The study also compares job understanding of teacher-librarians, teachers managing school libraries and that of non-regular librarians in school libraries. It suggested the desirable roles of school library professionals.

Under the symbol ${\Omega}$ is a combination of ${\phi}_i$ ($i=1,2,3,{\ldots},n$) which has a suitable growth condition, for dimension n = 2 and $n{\geq}3$, when the initial data f belongs to homogeneous Sobolev space, we obtain the global $L^q$ estimate for maximal operators generated by operators family $\{S_{t,{\Omega}}\}_{t{\in}{\mathbb{R}}}$ associated with solution to dispersive equations, which extend some results in [27].

The purpose of this study is to identify the way of development of school library and construction of information system for school library. In order to identify the way, the school librarian recognition level of school library information system was analyzed, since the recognition level about the information system can affect the school library development. Data is collected through the questionnaire. The result can be used to develope a school library instruction program for teachers and a base material for recovering the school library fundamental function.

Factors and causal structures of pre-service elementary teachers about the critical thinking and the scientific literacy competency were investigated in this study. The third grade university students and the first grade university students in the metropolitan city participated in this study. The factor analysis method and the structural equation modeling method were used for the data analysis, and the following results were obtained. First, the third grade university students and the first grade university students recognized 'inquisitive thinking' factor and 'reflective thinking' factor as factors of the critical thinking, and 'scientific explanation' factor and 'evidence-based conclusion' factor as factors of the scientific literacy competency respectively. Second, the third grade university students showed more the influence from 'reflective thinking' factor to 'scientific explanation' factor and from 'reflective thinking' factor to 'evidence-based conclusion' factor than the first grade university students.

The authors extend the results of the Schrödinger type with complex time of Bailey [1] and Cho, Lee and Vargas [3] to Schrödinger operators along the curves.

This study was carried out to estimate the seed crop of Carpinus forest in Piagol of Mt. Chiri for six years and the results obtained were as follows; Upper two layers of Capinus forest were dominated by C. tschonoskii and Subfall tree layer ranging from 15.40 to 17.20 m in height. The distribution of seed weight of C. tsconoski was skewed to light weight classes. Most seeds fall in November. The best crop was shown in 1984, while virtually no crops in 1985. Since 1985, annual seed crop increased gradually.

The purpose of this study was to survey the thinking of children, preliminary elementary teachers and elementary teachers in relation to the experiment of candle's combustion in a bottle on the water, to develop some supplementary experiments for the correction of the misconception on this experiment and to propose a new teaching method for this subject-matter The results of this study can be summarized as follows. 1. Most of the answers are related to the simple observation as the extinguishing of candlelight and the water rising in the bottle after a candle's combustion. And it is appeared that all the groups are similarly short of the ability of experimental design to verify the cause and effect. 2. from the results of the developed supplementary experiments, it is concluded that the main cause of the water rising is not the combustion of oxygen, but the expansion of volume and the releasing of air in the bottle in the bottle by heat of candle's combustion. 3. Based on the above results, a new direction for the teaching method of this subject is proposed.

This study had its objective to indentify the basic biological concepts as recommended by scholars in biology and by high school biology teachers for inclussion in the high school biology curriculum and to determine the importance levels of the concepts. The scholars for this study were selected to insure that their majors are evenly distributed across the biological areas. The final concept list contains 137 biological concepts along with their importance level judged by the scholars and high school biology teachers. The biological concepts are categorized into 12 biological areas. This study suggests that the concepts in the final list can not refect the conceptual hierarchy or inclusiveness, goals or objectives of biology education in the high school, and difficulty levels of the concepts. This study also claims that the concept list like the one produced by this study should be successively' checked and revised due to the continuous development of biological knowledge system and the constant change in the meanings of the knowledge system.
