Blocking Artifact Reduction in Block-Coded Image Using Interpolation and SAF Based on Edge Map

  • In this paper, we present a new blocking artifact reduction algorithm using interpolation and signal adaptive filter (SAF) based on the edge map. Generally, block-based coding, such as JPEG and MPEG, is the most popular image compression method. However, for high compression it produces noticeable blocking and ringing artifacts in the decoded image. In proposed method, all the block is classified into low and high frequency blocks in block classification procedure. And edge map is obtained by using Sobel operator on decoded image. And according to the block property we applied blocking artifacts reduction algorithm. Namely, four neighbor low frequency block is participated in interpolation based on edge map. And ringing artifacts is removed by applying a signal adaptive filter around the edge using edge map in high frequency block. The computer simulation results confirmed a better performance by the proposed method in both the subjective and objective image qualities.

DFT Studies on Two Novel Explosives Based on the Guanidine-Fused Bicyclic Structure

  • Density functional theory (DFT) calculations at the B3LYP/6-31G(d,p) theoretical level were performed for two novel explosives (compounds B and C) based on the guanidine-fused bicyclic skeleton $C_4N_6H_8$ (A). The heats of formation (HOFs) were calculated via isodesmic reaction. The detonation properties were evaluated by using the Kamlet-Jacobs equations. The bond dissociation energies (BDEs) for the thermolysis initiation bond were also analyzed to investigate the thermal stability. The results show that the compounds have high positive HOF values (B, 1064.68 $kJ{\cdot}mol^{-1}$; C, 724.02 $kJ{\cdot}mol^{-1}$), high detonation properties (${\rho}$, D and P values of 2.04 $g{\cdot}cm^{-3}$ and 2.21 $g{\cdot}cm^{-3}$, 9.98 $km{\cdot}s^{-1}$ and 10.99 $km{\cdot}s^{-1}$, 46.44 GPa and 59.91 Gpa, respectively) and meet the basic stability requirement. Additionally, feasible synthetic routes of the these high energy density compounds (HEDCs) were also proposed via retrosynthetic analysis.

Design of comprehensive mechanical properties by machine learning and high-throughput optimization algorithm in RAFM steels

  • In order to make reasonable design for the improvement of comprehensive mechanical properties of RAFM steels, the design system with both machine learning and high-throughput optimization algorithm was established. As the basis of the design system, a dataset of RAFM steels was compiled from previous literatures. Then, feature engineering guided random forests regressors were trained by the dataset and NSGA II algorithm were used for the selection of the optimal solutions from the large-scale solution set with nine composition features and two treatment processing features. The selected optimal solutions by this design system showed prospective mechanical properties, which was also consistent with the physical metallurgy theory. This efficiency design mode could give the enlightenment for the design of other metal structural materials with the requirement of multi-properties.

Extraction behaviors of platinum group metals in simulated high-level liquid waste by a hydrophobic ionic liquid bearing an amino moiety

  • A hydrophobic ionic liquid including an amino moiety ([DiOcAPmim][NTf2]) was synthesized. Its extraction behaviors towards Pd(II), Ru(III), Rh(III) were investigated in nitric acid aqueous solution as a function of contact time, effect of concentration of nitric acid, effect of temperature, and effect of co-existing metal ions. The extraction kinetics of Pd(II) was fairly fast and extraction equilibrium can be attained within only 5 min under the [HNO3] = 2.05 M. When [HNO3]< 1 M, the extraction percentage of Pd(II), Ru(III), Rh(III) were all above 80%. When [HNO3] reached 2 M, all of the extraction percentage decreased and in an order of Pd(II)>Ru(III)>Rh(III). When [HNO3]> 2 M, the extraction performance gradually recovered. The effect of temperature can slightly affect the extraction performance of Pd(II). Furthermore, in simulated high-level liquid waste, [DiOcAPmim][NTf2] showed a better preference towards Pd(II) under the interference of various other co-existing metal ions.

국내 글로브 프로그램 운영 현황 및 지도교사들의 인식 (The Present Situation and Science High School Teachers' Perception about Field Application of the GLOBE Program in Korea)

  • 이 연구는 글로브 프로그램이 운영되고 있는 과학고의 교사에게 설문지 및 면담을 통하여, 과학고에서의 글로브 프로그램 운영 현황과 교사들의 인식을 분석하였다. 그 결과를 토대로 우리나라에서 글로브 프로그램의 운영에 따른 문제점과 그 해결 방안을 논의하는 데 목적이 있다. 이 연구는 12명의 과학고 교사의 설문과 3명의 교사 면담 및 글로브 프로그램의 운영과정에서 나온 보고서 등의 분석으로 이루어졌다. 프로그램의 운영 현황, 교사들의 인식과 프로그램 운영에 따른 문제점에 대한 결과는 다음과 같다: 1) 글로브 프로그램은 초등학교 고학년 및 중학교에 적합한 수준이며, 과학고에서 그대로 운영하기에는 적합하지 않다. 2) 글로브 프로그램을 국내에 정착시키기 위해서는 우리나라에서 각 학교의 환경과 지역성을 고려한 다양한 프로그램의 개발이 필요하다. 프로그램의 운영에 대한 제언은 다음과 같다: 1) 우리나라의 교육실정에 맞는 글로브 프로그램을 개발-운영하기 위해서는 지구환경과 관련된 단체 및 전문가 집단이 되는 운영 본부의 설치가 요구된다. 2) 글로브 프로그램의 운영을 위한 행-재정 지원이 있어야 한다.

고등학생의 지구과학 탐구능력 측정을 위한 평가도구 개발 (The Development of a Test of Earth Science Inquiry Skills for High School Student)

  • Since the late of 1960,s, the improvement of science inquiry skills has been one of the most important goals in secondary science education. To achieve this goal, it is essential to develop a valid and reliable instrument for evaluating science inquiry skills. The purpose of this study is to develop a valid and reliable instrument for evaluating science inquiry skills for high school students. The instrument is developed through R & D procedure, which includes two field trials of the instrument. This study has formed a clear definition of the elements of science inquiry skills (formulating a hypothesis, controlling variables, designing an experiment, numeric calculation, graphing experimental data, inference, determining relationship, determining causalities, predicting experimental results , drawing a conclusion, formulating a generalization or model), and established the goals of assessment and developed the items of assessment. The instrument, Test of Earth Science Inquiry Skills, consists of 33 items which measure 11 science inquiry skills. There are content-free items for each science inquiry skills. This study has selected 11 science inquiry skills which are considered appropriate for being evaluated by paper-and-pencil test with SIEI (Hur,1984). The content validity of items, objectivity of the scoring keys and clarity of the items were checked by six experienced specialists in science education. At the same time, the two field trials has been executed and produced the reliability of the instrument, item difficulty index, and the effectiveness of distracters. The first field trial was performed using a sample of 304 high school students, and the second one using a sample of 872 high school students. Because the content validity is 84 % and the reliability (K-R 20) is 0.84, the developed instrument in this study is considered valid and reliable. The difficulty index is 49.4 %, answer ratio 59.1 %, the discrimination index 0.47 and the effectiveness of distracters evenly distributed, which also suffice the criteria of good instrument. The developed instrument in this study can diagnosis the well-developed science inquiry skills and the ill-developed science inquiry skills of the students, and trace the degree of the improvement of science inquiry skills.

Basic characteristics of metal-ferroelectric-insulator-semiconductor structure using a high-k PrOx insulator layer

  • A metal-ferroelectric [SrBi$_2$Ta$_2$O$\_$9/ (SBT)-high-k-insulator(PrOx)-semiconductor(Si) structure has been fabricated and evaluated as a key part of metal-ferroelectric-insulator-semiconductor-field-effect-transistor MFIS-FET memory, aiming to improve the memory retention characteristics by increasing the dielectric constant in the insulator layer and suppressing the depolarization field in the SBT layer. A 20-nm PrOx film grown on Si(100) showed both a high of about 12 and a low leakage current density of less than 1${\times}$ 10e-8 A/$\textrm{cm}^2$ at 105 MV/cm. A 400-nm SBT film prepared on PrOx/Si shows a preferentially oriented (105) crystalline structure, grain size of about 130 nm and subface roughness of 3.2 nm. A capacitance-voltage hysteresis is confirmed on the Pt/SBT/PrOx/Si diode with a memory window of 0.3V at a sweep voltage width of 12 V. The memory retention time was about 1 104s, comparable to the conventional Pt/SBT/SiO$\_$x/N$\_$y/(SiO$\_$N/)/Si. The gradual change of the capacitance indicates that some memory degradation mechanism is different from that in the Pt/SBT/SiON/Si structure.
