In this study, intelligence and creativity of students selected for the mentorship program at the Science-gifted Education Center were tested and those levels were related to the examination for the mentorship program. Diverse psychometric tests(WAIS, RAPM, TTCT-verbal, TTCT-figural) were administered to the students in both courses(biology course: n=19, physics course: n=21) at the Science-gifted Education Center. Students selected for the mentorship program had high intelligence scores(WAIS IQ>98%). On the other hand, their creativity scores were not as high as their intelligence scores. In the correlation analysis between those scores and examinations for the mentorship program, examination for the biology program was correlated with WAIS and TTCT-verbal, whereas that for the physics program was correlated with RAPM. These results show that students for the mentorship program have higher score in intelligence than in creativity and the examination for the mentorship program tests mainly intelligence. Thus, educational effort should include an emphasis on the assessment of creativity.

Argumentative discussion is one of the important components of an educational program, which allows students not only to learn the process of social negotiation through discussions, but also to improve students' overall research abilities. The purpose of this study was to examine a) the changes between inquiry of before-argumentative discussion and inquiry of after-argumentative discussion, and b) the connections between the inquiry changes and online argumentative discussion. This study analysed 726 messages in an online argumentative discussion, as well as in first research reports and second research reports. The results of the study indicate that science-gifted students' research abilities were improved through on-line argumentative discussion that provided them with feedback based on interactive discussions, and encouraged them to re-examine hypotheses and experiment processes. The science-gifted students showed knowledge and abilities for identifying simple errors in research processes and arguing problems in the flow of the whole logic of research.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of developing and applying a program in the field of astronomy that can improve the spatial perception ability and task commitment of elementary science gifted students. The subjects of this study were 22 students in the advanced course in the elementary science gifted class affiliated with the Gifted and Talented Center of University B. In order to improve spatial perception ability and task attachment to students in elementary school science gifted class, a total of 12 educational learning programs were developed and applied. The results of this study were interpreted as quantitative analysis. The results of this study are as follows. First, the astronomy class had a positive effect on the spatial perception ability improvement of elementary science gifted students. Second, the astronomy class had a positive effect on improving the task commitment of elementary school science gifted students. Third, astronomy class of elementary school science gifted students was more effective in improving spatial perception than improving task commitment. Since elementary school science gifted students are selected with excellent intelligence, creativity, and task commitment, an Individualized Education Program (IEP) is developed and applied to better express their potential giftedness. In addition, in order to express more in-depth giftedness in gifted education, it is necessary to pay attention to the development of programs that can express individual gifted characteristics.
The purpose of this study was to perform a comparative analysis of the research trends in STEAM education in gifted education and suggest educational implications to improve the current STEAM education for the gifted. The results were as follows. First, STEAM education has been increasing in the past couple of years and gifted and talented education took up relatively high proportion of it. This demonstrates that gifted education closely related to creative and versatile individuals plays a leading role in STEAM education. Second, researches on STEAM education and STEAM education for the gifted targeted elementary school students the most. Third, researches on the development of STEAM program for the gifted have been mainly addressing science-oriented convergence programs. Among them, programs including all the five combined factors(Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) were the most common. In terms of learning types, a criterion-referenced teaching-learning model has been developing and there were diverse learning types which applied teaching-learning models tailored to characteristics of a gifted child. The researches related to STEAM programs'application effects on creativity were most dominant.
The purpose of this study is to find out the effect of science journal writings on the cognitive and affective features of the science gifted students. In this research, the tasks of on-line science journal writings were assigned for 6 months and the subjects in this study were 21 students of Chemistry Division of the Center for Science Gifted Education, Seoul National University. Consequently in science journals, science concepts are found in various aspects according to the writing formats, and psychological and behavioral characteristics of the science-gifted are revealed in positive or negative aspects. In cognitive prospect, science journal writing equips students with better understanding about science concepts and scientific research. In affective prospect, science journal writing help students improve observation and attitude toward science as wren as writing skills. Accordingly, science journal writing has positive effect on cognitive and affective characteristics of the science-gifted. In conclusion, acknowledged by most of science-gifted students as both beneficial and appropriate in their education program, science journal writing should be emphasized in education for science-gifted students.
The purpose of this study was to analyze science gifted students' creativity subscales. The Torrance Tests of Creativity Thinking(TTCT) were administered to 385 science gifted students from 2006 to 2010 for this study. The results were as follows: First, fluency correlated highly with originality, and elaboration also highly correlated with abstractness of titles. All of the correlation coefficients of the variables with resistance to premature closure were high. Second, the elaboration scores were higher than other variables, and abstractness of titles scores and resistance to premature closure scores were lower than other variables regardless of regions and gender. There was no significant difference according to regions, but the elaboration scores of female science gifted students were significantly higher than male science gifted students'. The fluency scores were the most influential factor to the creativity index among the creativity subscale scores. Third, after completing the science gifted program, students showed significant difference in fluency scores, abstractness of titles scores, and resistance to premature closure scores; however, they showed no difference in originality scores and elaboration scores.
This paper was to examine the effects of university-based science gifted education program on scientifically gifted students' science problem finding ability and cognitive-affective factors. For this study, 69 scientifically gifted students with previous Silted education experiences at the university-based science gifted education centers and 91 scientifically gifted students without any previous gifted education experiences were compared. Both groups of students were currently enrolled at a specialized science high school. To compare both groups, scientific problem finding ability, science anxiety, science related attitude, self-efficacy, intrinsic motivation, test anxiety, cognitive strategies, and self-regulation were measured. The results indicate that there was no significant difference on scientific problem finding ability between these two groups. The comparison between the past and now in the aspects of variables observed in the study showed that both groups of students were decreased in the science anxiety and self-efficacy. But the test anxiety was significantly increased compared to the past in both groups. Implications of the study were discussed in depth.
This study was designed to raise the quality of education programs for those gifted students in science education. The authors suggest the importance of autonomous inquiries amongst various activities for those gifted in this study. For this purpose, we identified the meaning of autonomous inquiry by comparison with the open inquiry and presented the importance of the autonomous inquiries with the aim of the gifted in science education. From this, we emphasized the necessity of program development to cultivate the gifted adolescents' independence, creativity, and autonomy beyond previous programs.

For this, survey was taken by 201 gifted students and 216 general students. Methods used are Cronbach alpha, frequency, percentage, independent t-test and Pearson's correlation coefficient. The results are as follows : 1. The gifted students have higher career awareness than the general students. The gifted students recognize their own interests, aptitudes and talents which they are concerned. 2. The gifted students have higher social contribution consciousness than the another. This shows that the gifted students have desire to be respected and positive view of social contribution. 3. There is a positive correlation between career awareness and the social contribution consciousness. According to the past studies, students' household economic status affect their view or grade which they get.. Based on these results, we suggest that a development of educational program for career awareness and social contribution consciousness which can improve gifted students' social responsibility consciousness is necessary.
