Comparison of Actual Status and Satisfaction of School Uniform between Middle and High School Students (중·고등학생의 교복 착용 실태와 만족도 비교)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the wearing situation and satisfaction of school uniforms with the middle and high school boys and girls, who have been in uniforms for one or more years. The subjects for the survey were a total of 560 from the 2nd and the 3rd grade of the middle school, and the 1st and the 2nd grade of the high school. The survey was performed with the questionnaire of 60 questions; 36 questions related to the actual status, such as the purchase, size, repair, and design of a school uniform, and 24 questions related to satisfaction. The results were as follows; 1. Regarding the school uniform purchase, middle school students attached importance to famous brand, while high school students valued design above everything else. The students confused with the school uniform sizing systems were 82.1 % and 72.5 % in middle and high school students. 2. 43% of middle school students and 34% of high school students had experiences of repairing their school uniforms. Regarding the reason for repair, the size misfit was the highest. Boys preferred a single breasted boxy jacket with middle hip line length, and straight trousers, and girls preferred a fitted jacket of waist line length, and flare skirt of the knee line length. 3. School uniform satisfaction score showed that students were not satisfied with their school uniforms so much. Middle school students had significantly lower satisfaction about the design and psychological protection than high school students. Even though high school students showed lower satisfaction about the price and the care of school uniforms, there were no significant differences between them.

  • The purpose of this study was to provide Apparel Industries producing the school uniform with the information on manufacturing the school uniform, and the students with the information of reasonable life of garments. Differences of reforming condition and satisfaction of the school uniform have been researched. The data were collected from 764 middle and high school girl students living in Daegu. Except for psychological aspect of wearing the uniform, most of satisfaction of wearing the uniform in the survey has been studied as lower ones. in line with these, overall improvement of aesthetic, economic, handling, class symbolic, movable aspects are requested to meet the needs of the students. A majority response of reforming the school the uniform once have come from middle school students, and another response of reforming the uniform twice coming from high school students are as follows : fitness of the uniform, trend, movability, expression of personality, and those of high school students are fitness of the uniform, expression of personality, trend, movability. Opportunities to have an education on how to wear school uniform appropriately have not been offered to students, and a number of the students in the survey have replied that they need to have adequate school uniform wearing education.

  • The purpose of this thesis is presenting desirable design of uniform which could reflect high school girls' demands with the researches on their consciousness of fashion and actual state of uniforms. Methods to accomplish this research include first, examinationson characteristics of high school girls and their consciousness of fashion with relevant articles, second, interviews with designers from major domestic uniform brands - ELITE, IVY, SMART - and third, analysis on related internet sites. Practical researches are followed by design analysis and proposal of improvement on high school girls' uniform, accompanied by collection of photographs from field studies, major uniform brands' shops and uniform related internet sites. Korean high school girls in the digital era are able to express themselves in each different fashion with own individuality, preference or intention, as they are particularly interested in clothes or their appearances. Their consciousness of fashion became visible in a shape of negative attitude and dissatisfaction with uniforms due to its out-of-date design, lack of features and inconvenience in action. Besides more than half of high school girls already experienced reforming it for better looks. As a result of current analysis on references of uniform designs, various levels of refinement were noticed even in uniform of similar details, design, fabric textile and color due to differences on size & length of jacket collar, dart, cutting line, size of details, decorative line, easiness in fit, length of clothes, and etc. To provide students of more refined and desired designs which reflect their demands, current uniforms are to begin acquiring delicate changes with present vogue and feature such as size of details, silhouette, cutting line, decorative line and etc. In addition newly designed uniforms are to present desirable design with image of refinement and neat as they actively comprehend students' needs within its symbolic, functional, economic and aesthetic characteristics by nature.

High School Girls'Satisfaction with Korean Trditional Style School Uniform and Their Clothing Behaviour (우리 옷 교복 착용 여고생의 교복 만족도와 의복행동의 관계)

  • The aim of this paper was to identify high school girls'satisfaction toward Korean traditional style school uniform and their clothing behaviour. The questionnaires were administered to 133 high school girl students in Pusan. To find out attitudes of Korean traditional style school uniform and their clothing behaviour, PC model, mineigen and Varimax Rotation of factor analysis were adopted. The results have shown that each four factors are identified in Korean traditional style school uniform's satisfaction and their clothing behaviour. Multiple Regression analysis has been used to investigate the relationship between these factors of attitudes and satisfaction toward Korean traditional style oriented school uniform. As a result, the relationship between factors of their school uniform behaviour and satisfaction of their school uniform has revealed. They tend to wear their school uniform in various occasions if their satisfaction becomes greater. Besides, the more students have recognized the uniform as symbol of status the more they become satisfied with their school uniform. The relationship between factors of clothing attitudes and satisfaction of school uniform has shown that its uniform doesn't promote students conformity since they might be aware of different style and design of their school uniform compared to other school uniforms.

  • Teenagers are fast in growth and very sensitive. They are more interested in appearance and clothing and they use it as a method of expressing themselves. Thus they show different attitudes toward clothing. This study is to survey teenagers' attitudes toward clothing, especially school uniform and to understand their psychological characteristics about clothing. The purpose of this study is to provide useful data in designing teenagers' school uniform which can serve to fulfill their clothing desire and beautiful school life. The results of this study can be summarized as follows. As of paradigm in clothing, they value individuality, economical efficiency, practicality, fashion, and conformity of clothes in the order of importance. They considered individuality value the most important. Students' preference of school uniform is not positive over all. About 60% of students support wearing uniform, and 50% like wearing uniform on the way to school. The reasons for wearing school uniform are psychological stability and economical efficiency. They think school uniform is well fitted for the student position and don't have to care about clothing if they wear school uniform. 63% of them prefer wearing famous brand but they think the price is too high. Comparing with male student, female students place more value on latest fashion and are more likely to purchase brand object than male students do. Female students have more experience in modification of school uniform than male students do. Based on the result of this study, we need to understand the students' attitudes toward school uniform and to accept demand of teenagers' idea in production of school uniform.

High School Boys′ Satisfaction with a Korean Traditional Style Uniform and Image Evaluation (우리옷 교복 착용 남자고등학생의 교복만족도와 이미지 평가)

  • The purpose of this paper was to understand the relationship of high school boy's satisfaction with a Korean traditional style school uniform and their attitudes and image evaluation to male regarding wearing school uniforms. A survey was administered to 128 male high school students. To find our factors of their attitudes and their images regarding wearing school uniforms, Varimax rotated factor analysis was adopted. The results showed that each few factors were identified in their wearing attitudes and images. Multiple regression analysis was to investigate the relationship between these factors and the satisfaction with their school uniform. As a result of this, if their satisfaction becomes greater, they tend to recognize the distinctive design of their school uniform and wear their school uniform on various occasions. In addition, the more they become satisfied with their school uniform, the more the students are comfortable with the uniform and recognize it as a symbol of status as well. The relationship between the factors of their wearing attitudes and satisfaction with their school uniform shows that of their satisfaction becomes greater, they recognize the school uniform as good looking, comfortable and as an intelligent image. The analysis of their attitudes and images indicates that the factor of a good looking images is correlated with all factors of their attitudes. Therefore the attitudes of high school boys toward wearing a school uniform have been changed and revealed to be different from previous research results.

A Study on the Actual Wearing Conditions and Preferred Designs of School Uniforms for High School Girls (여자 고등학생 교복 착용실태와 선호 디자인 연구)

  • The function of the school uniform is to represent the role of a student and also to restrict the scope of action for the student. Many students wear school uniforms for the most of their daily life. So the school uniform is very important for students during the school days. The purpose of this study was to suggest the fundamental information for the development of the school uniform design based on actual wearing conditions and preferred designs. Photos of school uniforms of 61 girls' high schools in Seoul were analyzed. Surveys of actual wearing conditions and preferred designs were investigated. The major conclusions of the study were as the following: 1. Most of the high school girls wore the uniform jackets that had tailored collars, were single breasted, slightly fitted, and that have a medium length between the waistline and hipline. Many students wore skirts with various pleats and knee length. Many school uniforms were navy blue and grey. 2. Many students bought ready-to-wear school uniforms from agencies with their parents. When they bought the school uniforms, they tried it on and confirmed the sizes on their own. However, since they didn't know the size systems, and they had to repair the size and design of the school uniforms. Students felt uncomfortable with how the shoulders and sleeves fit. 3. Uniform Jackets with tailored collars, single breasted, slightly fitted, and a short waistline length were preferred. Pleats skirts with knee length or upper-knee length were preferred. Navy blue and grey colors, and elastic fabrics were preferred. 4. When comparing the actual wearing conditions and preferred designs of school uniforms, there were a few differences in styles, but overall, students preferred shorter lengths of jackets and skirts. It is considered to reflect the fashion trends and the students' pursuit for beauty.

Attitude toward Uniform and Evaluation Criteria toward Uniform according to Individualism-collectivism of Middle and High School Girls (여자 중·고등학생의 개인주의-집단주의에 따른 교복태도와 교복선택기준)

  • The purpose of this study is to classify individualism-collectivism into groups and analyze the difference of attitude toward uniform and evaluation criteria toward uniform. Questionnaires are being administered to 369 middle and high school girls in Deagu province. The Frequency, factor analysis, reliability analysis, cluster analysis, correlation analysis, ANOVA, Duncan-test, and t-test are used for data analysis. Individualism-collectivism factors are found to be other focus, individuality focus, competition consciousness, love of family, and self-esteem. Attitude toward uniform are categorized into fashion pursuit, symbol of role, conformity, color, and neatness. Evaluation criteria toward uniform is categorized into 7 factors: practicality, care, promotion, aesthetics, service, brand focus, and regulation focus. Individualism-collectivism are classify into three groups such as high individualism-collectivism, low individuality, and high individuality. Individualism-collectivism shows a significant correlation with the sub-variable attitude toward uniform and evaluation criteria toward uniform. The groups show a significant difference in the attitude toward uniform and evaluation criteria toward uniform. There is a significant difference among individualism-collectivism, attitude toward uniform, and evaluation criteria toward uniform by the middle and high school girls.

A Study on Alteration Behavior by High School Girl Students' Satisfaction for School Uniforms (여고생의 교복 만족도에 따른 교복 변형 행동에 관한 연구)

  • This study analyzed the present uniform satisfaction, uniform satisfaction followed by physical satisfaction, attitude for uniform, purchase attitude for uniform, satisfaction for design, preference for design, and attitude for uniform alteration behavior by distributing questionnaires to high school girl students in Daejeon City. The results of the study are as follows. The study distributed questionnaires to 319 high school girl students in Daejeon City and analyzed the satisfaction factors for their uniforms. As the result, this study induced four factors. The average value of each factor appeared in order of symbolic satisfaction, management satisfaction, activity satisfaction, and aesthetic satisfaction to show that high school girl students were the most dissatisfactory in aesthetic satisfaction. When the study examined the realities of uniform alteration, it showed that 71.2% of them altered their uniforms. In the alteration of a jacket and a skirt, they altered their jackets shortly and tightly in the mass in the order of: waist measurement, jacket length, breast width, shoulder width, and girth of the chest in a jacket. For a skirt, they altered their skirts tightly as a jacket in the order of: skirt length, waist measurement, and the girth of hip.

A Survey on the Brand School Uniforms for High School Girl's and Comparative Analysis on Their Size System of Brand Uniform (여고생의 브랜드 교복 착용실태 조사 및 브랜드교복 제품치수 비교분석에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to research the difference between the size suggested by brand uniforms and the size suitable for high school girls. We compared and analyzed the size system of brand uniforms after researching the wearing conditions of uniforms of 4 brands (A, B, C, D) in order to establish a size system of brand uniforms that fits different body types of teenagers. First, we conduct research on the actual condition of brand uniforms worn by high school girls, and investigate unsatisfactory factors and problems. Second, we actually measure the uniform size of each brand and analyze measurement differences between each brand. Our results show each brand uniform has different size specifications and the importance of appropriate size specification is greater as students select uniform based on design and brand awareness rather than body size. Compared with the average body size the skirt and especially the blouse is much smaller with no extra room compared with standard size 85 blouses and size 71 skirts. Therefore, the adjustment of size specification is needed in brand school uniforms. However, a larger scale investigation is needed as this study was conducted with a limited sample size.
